I found out a couple of days ago that I have to have 2 of my wisdom teeth taken out. They told me they'd have to cut through my gums, and I'd hurt for like 3 or 4 days and be sore for about a week. I'm thinking of having it done on Spring Break, my Spring Break is a week would this be long enough? Would I be given laughing gas or a shot to numb my mouth? Will I feel any pain?
Wisdom teeth??
I had mine out years ago, they sometimes have to cut the gum to fully extract the tooth, you dont want pieces left in there to cause infection. It doesnt hurt, they gave me shots if i remember but laughing gas may be an option. You will feel some discomfort but ask the doctor to prescribe pain relievers. Its necessary that they remove them, so go ahead and take a week off u should be fine. good luck.
Reply:it should be enough, i have to get braces they says i will be soar for like a week or two
Reply:Yeah it should be enough.. but you will be sore for awhile... They will give you both probably... and pain killers for afterward.... They didn't have to cut my gums really because my teeth were poking through... but you can feel them pull them out... but it doesn't hurt... until after the shot wears off... then just pop those pills!!!!!!!!!!! you will only be able to eat like Popsicles, jello etc for like 4 or 5 days... fun fun fun!!!
Reply:When I had mine removed they took all 4 at once, they completly sedated me, I didn't remember a thing. I had it done on Friday and was back to work on Tuesday of the following week. It sounds like yours are impacted (why they have to cut), my sister dealt with that and she was still not out of commission for any more than 5 days. All that being said, maybe aim to have it done the Friday before your spring break starts (if you can get away that day). That would give you 9 full days to recover which should be enough. Good Luck.
Reply:You poor thing. They usually use local anaesthetic (a shot) but if it's complicated they may give you gas.
You'll need more than a week, normally your face blows up like a hamster and you'll have to be constantly taking painkillers. The swelling will last about 5 days before starting to come down. Also your stitches will need a week before they come out. You won't feel any pain during the procedure (you'll feel blunt pressure) but it will be painful afterwards.
Good luck!
Reply:Varies. depends on your dentist. I took all 4 of mines out all in one day..in about 1 hour. I was knocked to sleep. They have different options..either put you to sleep, numb you, or laughing gas. You might be able to choose. My friend had her's numbed and she felt all the tugging and buzzing of the extraction tools..thats not something i would wanna hear while under the procedure.
I was swollen and bruised for about a whole week. I kept applying ice packs on it and that helped alleviate the pain. If you taking it out on spring break..im sure you'll be fine sicne youre only taking out 2 teeth. My other friend's mouth healed after 2 days and she took out all 4 of her teeth too. It depends on each person and how sensitive their body is.
Reply:Have you ever had any teeth pulled while at the dentist? It's kinda the same thing, except wisdom teeth are larger... and being that they need to cut through your gums, it's a little more intense.
They will give you gas to knock you out. When I had mine out, they gave me an injection of something. They pulled the infection thing out to fill it with my blood, and when they pushed it back in, I was out in less than 2 seconds.
Your spring break should be a good recovery time. If you can, schedule it for the Friday before the break. This will give you a couple extra days to recover.
Reply:you will not feel pain until the teeth are pulled and the novacain has gone away i think they only give novacain these days i do not know if they put you to sleep any more but you will feel a little tugging thats all the pain comes afterwards something you have to go through think of it this way know you will have your wisdom.
Reply:Sometimes they just give you a shot but if they knock you out, its usually more expensive cuz not all insurances cover this. It will hurt but make sure to take your medicine asap and stay on top of it. if not then the medication will wear off and you will back in pain again. I have had all four taken out - not at the same time- but i ate alot of cold things like sherbert ice cream, yogurt etc- stuff you dont have to chew. also you can drink shakes or slushies. really just plan on it being uncomfortable but it should not be 100% horrible. Also, if you can - right after your appt take your first dosage and take a nice nap. this seemed to eleviate stress and pain for me. Good luck!
Reply:you wuill need a decent 2 weeks to get them out.
i had four of mine cut out and i couldn't fully chew food fore 2 weeks
i was first given gas then an i.v. drug to keep me under
you will not feel a thing until you wake up(and then that is what vicodin is for)
my advice would be don't get them out during spring break unless it is urgent, because you will feel like sh-t going back to school
Reply:it hurts big time
Reply:for cutting through gums, i reckon they'd give you a GA and have you go through day surgery. i wouldnt have it any other way anyways. for this sorta procedure i'd say it'll take 2 weeks to heal to the point that you feel comfy enough to eat properly. no joke. the pain is rather bad. sleeping is a no brainer. cos u wont get much. you'll be majorly swollen at the cheeks. its ridiculous. really. your friends wont even recognize you through all that swelling. walking is painful becos the pressure from walking a lot can move your whole body and your mouth which hurts. either way, its good to get it done now than later. its scary, but you'll be happy you did it. trusttttttttt me. =D
