I am 21 years old and am getting wisdom teeth. I am going to the dentist for the first time in a couple of years and I know that he is going to say that he wants to pull them because they always do. Would it be a bad thing if I kept them?
Wisdom Teeth?
It depends. Your dentist will be able to tell you whether extraction is needed or you can keep them. Most of the time, they are removed because they can cause overcrowding of your teeth. This can cause future problems. Also, sometimes they grow sideways which pushes on your other teeth. Its really not that bad having them removed. It can save you a lot of time and pain in the future.
Reply:In most cases, your dentist will recommend to have the impacted wisdom teeth removed. If impacted wisdom teeth are not removed they can crowd other teeth out of position, damage nearby teeth, become infected (pericoronitis), develop tumors, develop cysts, and decay.
Your wisdom teeth may be removed by your general dentist or by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. You can request to be put to sleep during the procedure.
Reply:It would not be a bad thing if you kept them due to finances, work, etc. I can say that having them in can cause problems with crowded teeth and possibly impacted molars. I waited to pull mine for 20 years and now I wish I hadn't. They are very hard to keep clean and the healing and recovery time for a 21 year old is much faster than a 40 year old.
Reply:i have mine, in a jar. if he/she thinks they should come out than they should. wisdom teeth do cause a lot of problems. they can knock you out to have them pulled so if that is your worry, dont worry. dentists dont pull the wisdom teeth they send you to an oral surgen.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out today. I am 27 years old and dentists have been telling me I needed them out for years. I am quite miserable right now and I wish I had them removed years ago. They say it sucks more when you are older and this sucks pretty bad right now.
