Wisdom Teeth?

When you have IV Sedation for your wisdom teeth. Are you sleeping during the surgery or are you awake but careless? I'm a little confused i was thinking about this procedure.

Is it in any way dangerous like general anasthetic?

And post surgery are you aware of whats happening?

Wisdom Teeth?
I had the IV and was out like a light as soon as they injected. I awoke when they were done and cleaning up the room. I don't remember a thing and they said they had to actually break two teeth into pieces to get them out!

yuck.
Reply:Are you sleeping during the surgery or are you awake but careless? i was asleep it was a good sleep actually haha, but yeah i didn't feel anything it was like closing my eyes for 10 seconds and opening them again thats how i think it felt

Is it in any way dangerous like general anasthetic? i'm not sure they still use general anasthetic anyways and it's VERY strong but if you want general anasthetic you'll be awake for the procedure.

And post surgery are you aware of whats happening? Nope not a clue.
Reply:U will be semi conscious. IV sedation is given to facilitate the procedure for both patient and doctor.the access to wisdom teeth are rather difficult.if the same procedure is done simply under local anesthesia I doubt the patient wont cooperate .it is safe no need to scare
Reply:I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted this afternoon w/ IV sedation. I think I was awake to some extent. I remember they put the needle in me, and then it hit me so I was like "oh this is it" and I don't remember seeing anything after that. But I did hear stuff and feel them working in my mouth... I guess it depends on your definition of 'awake'.

Post surgery I was very well aware of what was happening, but I don't remember very much of it now.

All sedatives carry some risks of side effects.
