Wisdom teeth?

I think my wisdom teeth are starting to come in and they are very painful! They havent quite popped out from underneath my gums but they are still very painful! This morning I was eating something soft and I could barely chew it. Will I have to get these removed?

Wisdom teeth?
Almost every dentist recommends having wisdom teeth removed for good reason.

Even if you get though the teeth cutting through without further problems (infection), they are too far back in the jaw to keep clean. They develop cavities and the problems continue.

You need to see a dentist who will refer you to an oral surgeon. Or, you can skip the middle man if you want to save a few dollars. The doctor will take a panoramic x-ray which will tell you how close the teeth are to coming through. It will also show if they are coming in straight or not.

Having wisdom teeth out is not so terrible...my suggestion is to do all 4 at one time and get it over with. You can opt for general anesthesia or deep sedation so you don't feel a thing during the procedure. Afterwards, you will be given pain killers. Follow all instructions carefully to avoid complications.

In the meantime, rinse with warm saltwater, use anbesol or orajel and take an anti-inlammatory (ibuprofen: advil, motrin) unless you can't take those things for any medical reason.

Best of luck to you!!
Reply:Yes, but you will be asleep and they will give you ice and painkillers.
Reply:You don't have to...well it actually depends on your dentist, they will let you know if this is going to affect the rest of your teeth...you can either have them removed or put up with the pain...my sister removed hers and she told me it hurt like hell...good luck!!
Reply:Wisdom teeth are tricky. They try to erupt every so often and when they do it really does hurt. It's just like teething when you were a toddler. But, generally there isn't enough room for them to come in, and that is when they need to be removed. Your first step is to see your general dentist. He or she will take a panoramic x-ray, see where and what position your wisdom teeth are in, if you have 1,2,3, or all 4. Generally they will refer you to an oral surgeon to have them removed and you can be put to sleep to have it done, but it isn't necessary. You can do it with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). Some people do have a difficult time but the majority of people do very well and have no difficulties during or after. Give your dentist a call and they will give you all the info you need. If you are going to have them removed don't put it off. It doesn't get any easier as you get older, plus it gets more expensive every year!
Reply:There is no way to answer this question without examining you and taking appropriate x-rays.

We can argue about what percentage of wisdom teeth "should" come out, and it's not black and white. In any case general rules are meaningless--get yourself checked out by your dentist.

Reply:I'd get them taken out. Thats what i did. Its extremely painless. You're asleep and are on laughing gas. Plus you get some vikes when its over. It never hurts. If it does, take a vike or two.
Reply:It's okay, you will have to get them out, which should happen very soon, but it isn't as painful as it's cracked up to be. Usually when they remove your wisdom teeth, they cut into your gum and pull them out, so since yours are already out of your gums a little it won't be as painful and will be much easier. You get put asleep the whole time so you won't feel a thing. And you got tons of ice cream!! Haha. The one thing you have to worry about is after the procedure when you're all doped up lol, my friend called me after she had hers out and she was so loopy it was hilarious!! Haha.

Trust me, there are much worse dental procedures out there, today I had to get screws in my gums. Yeah that's right, mini screws drilled into my gums and through my teeth. It hurts sooo bad, that's the good thing about getting your wisdom teeth out because you get so much anesthesia before and after it so it isn't very painful. Good luck!! And don't worry everything will be fine, tons of people get their wisdom teeth out every day and it isn't that bad!!

Good luck.

Reply:Yes..

It hurts really badly.

I'm 15 and one of mines is coming in and I have to get it removed soon..
Reply:Hi,

As the daughter of an oral surgeon I have plenty of experience in this area. If the teeth are starting to come in I would advise getting them out, especially if you have had braces, they could cause crowding and ruin all of the work you did on getting that beautiful smile. Sometimes, lucky people can either be born without wisdom teeth or the teeth can grow in and function as normal teeth. However in the vast majority of people (including myself) these teeth just cause more problems due to crowding, and growing in wrong. I would see an oral surgeon as soon as you can to get these out. You dont need them anyway! :)

Good luck and feel better.

To resolve the pain now, you can rinse with warm salt water.
