Wisdom teeth?

does gettin your wisdom teeth pulled hurt real bad? im terrified of my dentist and if he hurts me... grr... i have 3 according to my ortho. i was supposed to get them pulled sometime in 07 but that never happened thank goodness but since it didnt itll prbly happen this year. im just really scared. if all you have to say is like ''it hurts real bad'' please dont say that. im scared enough already... :-(

Wisdom teeth?
I had my bottom wisdom teeth pulled years ago and it hurt. I got dry socket and it was the worst pain I ever had. Natural child birth was nothing compared to it. However, my best friend had hers removed the day after, and she was out partying that night. She never had any problems. I did everything the dentist said (no smoking, no drinking alcohol or carbinated drinks, no straws, etc) and she did EVERYTHING she wasn't supposed to. I hated her for it!

Last year I had to have my upper ones removed, and I was terrified because of what happened before, plus they say it's better to get them done when you're younger. I shouldn't have worried. I told my dentist how scared I was because of it all, and he laughed at me. At first I thought he was just trying to make me feel better, but as we talked he told me how much better it was now than back then. Dentistry has improved so much in the past 20 years. I was a little groggy afterwards, but I went home and took a nap, and felt better when I woke up than I did for the first two weeks last time.

I think part of it too is how you go into it. The more tense you are, the harder it is to do and the longer it takes to heal. The calmer you are, the easier they are too remove. If you are really scared, your dentist should understand and can give you medications accordingly. My daughter has a very crowded mouth and she's always terrified to get teeth pulled (just last week she had another five out), and they give her an extra sedative about 45 minutes before they take her back. It's surprising how much it helps.

I hope this helps, and good luck to you!
Reply:I had two wisdom teeth taken out before and I know what it feels like. It will not cause any pain while the dentist is taking them out because of the anesthesia, but after that it will. Make sure not to eat anything after the surgery because it hurts to swallow. Do not worry. It is only a one time thing. You will get over it. I mean I did.
Reply:no, your jaw will just be sore for about a week, if you take your pain meds and do whatever the dentist says, you will be fine.

a couple years before getting my wisdom teeth pulled, i got 6 regular teeth pulled out of my mouth, and that hurt way worse than my wisdom teeth. you will be okay!
Reply:I'm in the same shoes as you. I asked my sister and she told me it doesn't hurt all that bad. It depends if they come out easy or if they have to cut your gum and yank on it. Wooo. I think the harder it is to get too the more pain to expect.
Reply:I had mine out when I was about 15 or 16, and it didn't hurt at all. You get put to sleep and wake up biting on something. But after I had them out I had little or no pain. I was already eating normal food by the next day.
