Wisdom teeth?

So I'm supposed to have my wisdom teeth out in a month and a half, and I'm terrified! I'm 19 years old and my oral surgeon told me that I run greater risk of nerve damage because I waited so long. I was just wondering if anyone else was told this same thing and turned out just fine. I need comfort! haha. So how old were you when yours were removed? Was the process dangerous for you, too?

Wisdom teeth?
Just call me Grandpa, I had mine out long before painless dentistry was possible....However, I was a dental health professional for over 40 years and you can relax. The techniques they use today are both excellent and painless. As for nerve damage, possible but not likely. Your surgeon will have Xrays to tell him how the tooth is laying and if it poses a danger to the verve trunk. If it does he may decide to split the tooth and remove it in sections in order to avoid tearing the nerve trunk...you however will no doubt be napping under anesthetic and will not know what is happening. You will wake up, the wisdom teeth will be gone and the nerve trunk undamaged....which will prove very true when it wakes up. Of course your DDS will provide you with after extraction instruction and an Rx for pain control...you'll do great. Oh Yes, my son had all four of his removed at the same time and was at McDonald's three day's later scarfing down a quarter pounder and fries.
Reply:greater risk doesn't mean you will have nerve damage.

I'm 26 and still have my wisdom teeth in. I was a lucky one who had enough room in their mouth.
Reply:I was 20 when i got mine taken out and I got all 4 taken at the same time. I wasn't told about the risk but I'm sure it's possible for everyone. That was 10yrs ago and my mouth is just fine. I know you'll be OK..
Reply:I had mine out when i was 17... but i wasn't put under... i just had Novocaine... i was totally fine... my teeth weren't impacted though so it was nice..... my half sister didn't get hers out until she was about 22 and she couldn't talk the next day but she's fine... no damage!
Reply:I just got mine removed last Wednesday! I'm 19 also, but my surgeon didn't tell me anything like that. He did, however, take all four out at the same time.

I will tell you this: between the actual pain and the medicine, it's the worst pain I've ever had.

It is now Tuesday of the following week and my pain is almost gone, I just have to clean my mouth a lot.

So... it does hurt, you'll probably be out for a week or maybe a little less. Hopefully the pain medicine doesn't do anything to you , because it made me very sick.

Good luck!!! I wish I could say it was easy but it's really not!!! You'll get through it though!!!
