As i am sat here anwering questions, my partner is having a wisdom tooth out. I have never had this done and apparently it is really painful. What can i expect when he gets home? Is he gonna be in loads of pain? Shall i stock up on soup and pain killers? or wont he be that bad?
Wisdom Teeth?
It depends on whether the tooth is erupted (fully through) or impacted (not yet through).
If it is a straight forward extraction then expect some discomfort after the procedure but nothing that will last more then 24 hours.
Impacted wisdom's that are removed can cause much more discomfort and swelling around the face but again apart from painkillers and rest there is not much more to be done.
Your husband should avoid eating while the area is numb usually 2 to 3 hours then after that eating can be resumed but as much as possible on the other side of the mouth, he must not rinse his mouth for 24 hours or drink any alcohol as this will disturb the blood clot which will lead to more bleeding and an infection (dry socket) can set up inside the wound which is very painful. After 24 hours he can begin mouth rinsing with hot sat water 3 times a day for a week to keep the area clean and aid healing.
The first 24 hours are the worst after that he'll be as right as rain!
Good luck!
Reply:It won't be that bad
Reply:Nah, I've just had two teeth out right at the back..... It doesn't hurt while he has it done, but an hour or so after, it may sting a little.... Paracetamol and Ibro will do the job!!
Reply:He's a man so of course hes going to think and act like he's in loads of pain! I recommend you stock up of forbearance and patience
Reply:i hope he brings it home because they are about 2 ins long!!! put him to bed and go out on the beer as not to disturb him in the evening. poor ole love.
Reply:Its not as bad as it sounds, but have some painkillers there for him.
Reply:i had one wisdom tooth pulled and the other 3 cut out all at once. when he first gets home, expect him to sleep. stock up on soup and jello, mashed potatoes...anything soft for awhile. i had mine done on friday, went to a basketball game on saturday, and was a little sore on sunday. by monday i thought i would never make it. i don't know if this is the way for everyone, or if i did to much. hope all of this helps and happy holidays
Reply:Depends - some are worse than other - depends how deep the roots are. He will no doubt be sore for a couple of days and have some bruising. Stock up on painkillers xxxxxx
Reply:some people are really bad, some people are fine. i personally had all 4 pulled and was on vicodin immediatly after. it made me so sick i would puke, pass out for 4 hours, then have to take another and the cycle would start again. i only ate yogert and slimfast for 2 days, but never had any swelling or bruising or much pain. LOTS of blood tho, like i ruinned 2 pillows.
so long as they take the meds prescribed, they will probably be fine. i would get some noodle soup or something, nothing chunky, for at least a day, but they will probably be fine by tomorrow
Reply:He shouldn't be too bad, but get soup and ice cream in just in case.
One thing to watch though is that his mouth will probably still be numb from the anaesthetic so you may have to warn him when he drools all over the place hehe yuk!
Reply:Really depends on the person - I met one lady who only had to have soup for a day and a painkiller or two.
On the other hand, my dad had one of his out and he looked like a purple and yellow hamster for two weeks and needed drugging up and liquids...
Depends on the state of the tooth when it's removed, the angle it's removed from (my dad's had come through sideways and they had to chip the jawbone to get it out) and the skill of the dentist/oral surgeon.
I'd stock up on soup just in case...
Reply:Is he just having a local ansthetic? If so, then he will be fine to start off with, but it will start to ache in a couple of hours. Be prepared! Being a man he is gonna moan like hell and think he's dying!
Reply:I had my 4 wisdom teeth taken out . 2 one week and 2 the next . after the first two i felt crap i was lying on the couch with iodine swabs stuck in my gums where my teeth used to be i also had a cold sweat and couldnt stop shaking violently at times . the second time wasnt so bad i didnt get a sweat and start shaking when i got home . there is a good chance of infection if its not kept clean and dont use mouthwash use warm salty water to wash your mouth out .
Reply:I suppose a lot could depend on whether the extraction is carried out under a local anaesthetic (at the dentist) or whether under a general anaesthetic, carried out in hospital or the like.
When my mother had her wisdom teeth extracted at the dentist, she had quite a few bruises on her face and was in a fair bit of pain.
A bit of sympathy and TLC should suffice though and play things by ear with regards pain and food requirements, as everybody heals differently.

Wisdom teeth?
my right wisdom tooth is comming in (i think) it hurts really bad and i think its broken the gum. but i dont know. can somebody tell me what this pain is?
Wisdom teeth?
Yes, they hurt really bad... just imagine how babies feel when their teeth come in all at once... awww poor lil' babes... anyway, yeah it hurts, but they can also get infected like mine %26amp; had to have them taken out. Keep a bottle of Ibuprofen (Motrin) around...
Reply:wisdom teeth hurt when they come in. Mine were terrible! You need to go to a dentist and have him check you out.
Reply:It's probably just the pain of the tooth breaking through the gum. It hurts. It can cause light fever, swelling in the cheek and jaw ... We all go through it.
Reply:I just had mine out a week ago, the pain is exactly what you already confirmed- bone is breaking through your gum so yeah that's why it hurts. You need to go to the dentist, if there is not enough room for them to come in they will take them out.
Reply:The symptom you are describing is called Periocornitis. It is common when the wisdom tooth is unable to fully erupt into the mouth. The tissue opens up, the tooth trys and come in, you eat and get bacteria down into the gum area and then the tooth becomes infected because you cannot clean this. then it will probably go away for a while. It will continue until the tooth is removed. You could also have a severely decayed tooth into the nerve or an infection associated with bacteria. Go to the dentist ASAP. If it is infection, you can swell and end up in a worse situation.

Wisdom teeth?
i think my wisdom tooth is growing and my gums are killing me is there any medicine for it because i dont want to go to the dentist i'm scared help please
Wisdom teeth?
do you know if your wisdom's are coming in straight? I had no problems when my wisdom's came out. Your's may be jamming up against the teeth in front.
Bite the bullet and see a dentist.
Reply:orajel...
Reply:rub some clove oil on it, but don't use too much because you will go into a coma and you might die
Reply:Don't be afraid...they will put you to sleep to remove them. If they grow in they can crowd your other teeth and make them all really crooked. Wisdom teeth can also cause alot of pain and are susceptible to decay. You are all grown up now...take care of you!
Reply:My wisdom teeth are coming in just now too,i know how you are feeling.I use bongela gel, that sooth's it or clove oil if it's really sore that numbs it.Both can be bought at a pharmacy,.
Reply:Orajel works wonders. I also chewed carrots back where the wisdom teeth were coming in. That seemed to help me a lot.
Reply:i think you shouldnt be scared you should just go. i just recently had my wisdom teeth out. if you go to an oral surgeon they put you to sleep you never even know it happened. i woke up and i thought i was only there for a few minutes lol but i was done. and they give you really good pain killers so your not in that much pain. trust me when i say that cuz i cant stand pain at all and i didnt really feel hardly anything. hope that helps :)
Reply:i was supposed to get my wisdom teeth out literally 9 yrs ago. get it done now, don't let the fear rule you otherwise you'll become a snaggletooth. try orajel and max strength ibuprofen
Reply:ANNIE,
YOU DON'T KNOW IF THESE ARE GROWING IN STRAIT OR NOT. HAVE YOUR DENTIST TAKE SOME X-RAYS AND GIVE YOU DIFFERENT TREATMENT CHOICES.
YOU CAN LET THEM GROW IN OR YOU CAN EXTRACT THEM.
Reply:Your gums might be "killing you" not only because of the erupting (growing) wisdom tooth. It might be:
1) gingival inflamation - gingivitis or if the inflamation is around the erupting tooth it is called pericoranaritis
2) obturations or crowns or anything that is irritating the gum into that area (if there isn't any sign of tooth into the area)
3) it might be also the erupting teeth
4) it might be something else like periodontitis, etc
Unless you do not see a dentist, you can never be totally sure if that pain is just from the wisdom teeth. Anyways, if it is, you again need to see a doctor - there might be some "obstruction" onto their way (erruption) or maybe there is simply not enough space (that's the most common case with inferior wisdom teeth).
Go see a dentist! :) We are not that scary! :)

I have to get my impacted wisdom tooth out under general anaesthetic.. has anybody had this.. would love to hear of experiences.. is it bad???
Wisdom teeth?
well i had the 4 of mine taken out under local but it is basically all the same but different forms. it was an interesting experience overall. I first went into the office and waited. After it was my turn. i sat in the chair while the asst. were setting up and hooking up all the wires. they gave me a blanket in case i was cold.(i took it out in October) They got a needle ready and pressured my arm to find the vein on my forearm. they were not able to find it so they found one on my hand. they injected it in and i went to sleep...it was an early appointment so i was still tired. 1 hour later(although it felt like 1/2 hour) i was sorta able to walk but i had my mom help me.
The rules are no food after 12am the day before the surgery and no water as well. Some one must be responsible for you meaning that someone is driving you home. NO straws at all..you have to remember that and you have to eat soft foods!
It was not so bad..but i puked a lot because i kept moving as i was conscious enough. That was all bad!! It is best if you keep yourself asleep until you feel better. Make sure you have someone to care for you. The gauze pads need to be changed and you will take some meds as well. Everyone is different, but i felt sick for a total of 3 days. The anesthesia takes its time to run out of your system. I was able to eat normal foods 3-4 days after, but there are people who cannot do that as it is painful. It might take a week or two..depending. The healing process is weird. As your hole starts to close there will be a foul odor in your mouth for a while. I had a syringe to clean out the food residues that may be there. There is a follow up appt. with the oral surgon so he/she will be able to see the progress. It was quite a pain, but the results last forever! ^_^
Here are some food ideas: Soup(i.e. chicken noodle/cream of mushroom/tomato); ice cream, smoothie; mashed potato...there are others as well..i do not suggest you getting baby food especially if you hate it because it is a waste of money if you cannot enjoy it(lots of people highly dislike this).
*note: I had braces on when i took them out so i tend to get the food stuck. You might want to keep a bucket near you. it is possible to puke...that happened to me while i was sleeping and i got it all over the place..even if you do not puke in it it is also a convient garbage can!!hehe...
Wish you the best of luck!
Reply:yeah....for a while
Reply:I have never had it done, but my best friend has and she LOVED it, well, for a trip to the dentist. Now she goes to a specialist to be put under if she has to have any extraction.
Reply:My experience was really really bad. But I was only under local anethesia. I ended up with 4 dry sockets which is unimaginable pain wise. It was by far the worst experience of my life.
HOWEVER
When I went back for my follow-up the little assistant girl was prepping me before the doctor came in and said...
"You know some people's just come right out and it's no big deal for most patients to get their wisdom teeth out, but yours were the worst I had ever seen in my entire life!!"
So, while my experience was absolutely horrific, I had that assistant girl and many other people tell me it was no big deal.
I think it mostly has to do with how bad they are. If you are going to be completely under, you won't feel a thing, generally I think you only need a day or two to recover.
Reply:ha..ha.. its depend upon your Doc..whether he is skilled enough to make it good experiece
Reply:I've had all four of my impacted wisdom teeth taken out. I actually just had my top two taken out two days ago. When I had my bottom two taken out, I was given laughing gas and then an IV with something that ended up making me throw up for an hour after I woke up. After that, the pain wasn't bad at all and I was just taking 600mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours for a few days. My most recent experience was a much more positive one though. I only had laughing gas with a general anaesthetic this time. I was super nervous, but once the laughing gas kicked and and I had the procedure done, it was incredibly easy and painless. At the end of it when the doctor told me he was done, I asked him if he was sure because I was expecting much worse. I'm taking the 600mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours which works fine, and which you don't need a prescription for. I did get some Tylenol with Codeine however, because I barely slept the first night.
All in all, it's not a bad experience at all! Good luck!
Reply:As long as they knock you out you should be ok. I had a horrible experience where I was not put under and it was not a pleasant experience AT ALL! My advice, get them all taken out at once, you say you're having your tooth taken out, hopefully it's all your wisdom Teeth! Make sure you get good drugs from your oral surgeon! You will be swollen, in pain, bruised, but it actually feels much better than your wisdom teeth coming up and touching your sinus cavities Trust me! The stupid family doctor told me it was a sinus infection every time I went in for pain! It was my wisdom teeth putting pressure on my sinus cavities for 2 years because I didn't have dental insurance!! It's just something that you have to do, like a rite of passage, good luck!
Reply:i had my impacted wisdom tooth out two years ago.
and my dentist cleared his schedule for 4 hours, but he did it for 45 minutes, he said it was a record. and i didn't have any complications.
Reply:Wow, some of the people here who've answered sound like they had really bad experiences!! But please don't be scared, most people do not have those kinds of complications.
Start the ibuprofen before the numbness wears off, stay on soft, cold foods that 1st day...ice cream, yogurt, pudding, applesauce, etc. No straws, nothing too hot, and definitely no smoking! Swelling usually peaks on the 2nd or 3rd day, but if you use an ice bag during the 1st 12 hours it will help (a bag of frozen peas work great!).
The general anaenesthic will be sooo easy! The meds used nowadays rarely cause nausea or vomiting, and you'll have a numb mouth (no pain) when you wake up!

I have a partically erupted wisdom tooth and i wnet to the doctor cause can't get into the dentist he siad it is 3/8 erupted and has an infection.his say that my gum may need to cut what does he mean and if i have to have it removed will i knocked out for it?
Wisdom teeth?
They will give you anesthesia which will numb you.I felt high but your awake through the whole process. They will slice your gum to take out your wisdom tooth.
Reply:erm usually they give you an injection in your gum to remove a wisdom tooth! so your awake but cant feel anything!
Reply:if they are removing a wisdom tooth they will most likely put you under anesthesia for it. some places dont, but i would not recommend being awake for it. if the dentist you use doesnt use anesthesia try an "oral surgeon" for the procedure since they do put you under.
Reply:Your tooth is cutting by growing (babies cut teeth means teething)
If their is not enough room for the tooth it will need to be pulled so not to give your jaw trouble.
I'm sure the doc will numb the area before pulling it.
Reply:If he has to cut the gum its not that big of a deal it
will heal back up again. Since it's infected you have
to do it right away. The local anasthetic injected around
the area is so effective you really won't feel a thing,
and the actual extraction will probably be done in less
than a minute by a skilled doctor. Talk to your doctor
about whether you should be knocked out or not.
Sorry about your ordeal, you'll get through it just fine.
Reply:No you can have oral surgery under local anaesthic. Wisdom teeth removal hurts a bit afterwards. but you shouldnt be worried at all they do them every day

Wisdom Teeth?
Is it true that after the Wisdom tooth breaks the gum and comes out it dosn't hurt as much?
When can i get it taken out?
Wisdom Teeth?
I am not sure if that is true, but in my case it was. I had one that was impacted, and that one did not go as well. I was swollen within an hour of getting it done. The one that was partially erupted, I am not having pain or swelling. So chances are that it won't hurt as much. I was under IV sedation so I cannot tell you about the pain during removal. Get it out as soon as you can so that it does not cause further damage to nerves or shifting of other teeth.
Reply:you can get it taken out anytime you want.
After they come in it might stop hurting but if they are impacted they could keep hurting depends on the person.
Reply:it depends. Sometimes when the tooth erupts it might not hurt anymore, but the tooth is so far back that it doesnt allow your toothbrush to reach back there (into the crevice between your bone and tooth) and bacteria get locked in there and can begin an infection. If your wisdom teeth are hurting now, that is a sign that it might be time to get them out. the age to get them out is between 15-23 (although the research is suggesting extracting them at lower ages, consult DDS or OMS for that answer). i hope this helps.
Reply:First, the wisdom tooth can be extracted when your ready, actually there was no reason to have waited this long, it could have been removed even before it broke through the gum tissue. Second, your dentist may want to wait and let it further erupt as that will make it easier to extract. However if it's obvious the tooth is going to seriously crowd your other teeth he or she will probably opt to remove it now. I wish you well.

Wisdom teeth?
I'm 17 years old and my first wisdom has almost completly erupted from my gums. It looks fine and all, but instead of coming out straight, it looks like the tooth has been turned. Should I have it removed or what? Thank you for your help.
Wisdom teeth?
Yes. Get it removed before it starts damaging the teeth next to it or it starts doing damage to your gum or cheek.
Reply:I suggest you check it out with ur dentist since i had the same problem but after it went out completly it came to normal!
My dentist had me under his supervistion for 6 months he told me if it continued to turn he will have it removed, so ask him and see what he says :)
Goodluck with it!
Reply:My wisdom teeth didn't erupt until I was in my mid-thirties. By then, the roots were wrapped around my jawbone and I ended up with TMJ. The earlier you get them out in life, the faster you'll heal and your teeth won't shift around so much.

Hello..that's odd beings when pull teeth for dentures, they pull them all @ once ...hmmm, mo'money for each Office Visit ;) Take Care
Reply:Some people have them done all at once. Your tolerance for pain may be the deciding factor.
Reply:I got all 4 of mine taken out at once in one visit but I was put to sleep.
See if they can put u to sleep and then you will be able to get them all taken out at once.
Reply:I had all four of mine removed at once under local %26amp; in the hospital ! Totally free to me. Best move i ever made....take-home pain killers aren't bad either!
Reply:I had all four taken out at once. But I wasn't awake. Maybe it's your decision if you want to be awake or not. But, yes, you can get the three done in one visit. Good luck to you.
Reply:I had all 4 removed while asleep. My husband had all 4 while awake.

My wisdom tooth on the left side of my mouth is starting to grow in and I can't stop feeling it. Now it seems like its starting to hurt my jaw and the side of my mouth hurts. Is this normal or should I have this checked out by my dentist? I don't know if its because of the food i eat or because I brush that area too hard but now the left side of my mouth and my jaw hurts. Can someone answer this? Thanks.

when mine were coming in they hurt too, like it felt like they were pushing against my gums but im assuming thats only normal.. unfortunately im going to have to get them out this summer =[
Reply:It's not normal.
Get to a dentist. He'll take x-rays to see if the nerve in the jaw is being pinched.
Reply:have your dentist take a look at it...they have to come out sometime...they have to be taken out because after a while they start to push the rest of your teeth which makes the rest crooked...a sign that they need to be taken out is a little pain in that area...
Reply:You should have your dentist x ray them as soon as possible. If there isn't enough room for them to grow in, it can crowd the rest of your teeth and make them crooked. You also want to mke sure their not impacted.
Reply:make an appointment with your dentist.
Reply:wisdom tooth is normal for everyone and not every case you have to get it extracted unless it's giving you problem.
as for your case, since its hurting you,its best to get a x ray done by dentist to check if you have impacted tooth, coz impacted tooth usually need to be removed to prevent further damage to the other molar tooth.

Ok so Im in some pain with my lower wisdom tooth, and I dunno what to do about it?! Go to the dentist, obviously, but until then what can I do to make the pain go away? Orajel Maximum Strength Im using it, along with tylenol. What else is there to help me along this PAINFUL!! time. lol. Thanks =]
Wisdom Teeth?
Oh honey I know how you feel! Mine came in (and I grind my teeth at night) so I had a huuuge hole in my cheek area where I had actually chewed away the skin and the new tooth was making it raw! Gargle with warm sea salt water, use IB Profin or Tylenol at night may want to put a nice warm compress against your face. None of those gel and liquid pain relievers for tooth aches helped me, it actually made it worse, I think there might be sugar or something in them because it made my tooth ache horribly. I hope this helps some. Good luck! Best wishes
Reply:ibuprofen worked for me, its a non prescription pain killer
Reply:I am a dental assistant. You need to take ibuprofen. It's an antiinflamatory.
Reply:Ok. You know the obvious answers, but there are still several questions to be asked. Since I don't have an x-ray of the area in question, I'll have to go on gut instincts here.
1) Your tooth maybe comming in. this results in local discomfort as well as a bit of a headache. Oragel only lasts for a little while and even then it's a topocal, so doesn't do anything for the underlying bone. Aleve seems to be the best option... it is a pain realiever and an anti-inflamitant. While it won't completely relieve the pain, it will help. Call your dentist for a dosage amount if the 2 the packaging doen't do anything for you.
2) If the tooth isn't breaking the surface and you are more than 19 years old, it could be impacted and thus is putting pressure on the teeth in front of it. There really isn't much that can be done except take Aleve and call your Dentist.
3) If the tooth has already come in and it hurts while eating or drinking sweet things, there is a cavity going on and the only thin that CAn be done is going to see the dentist.
4) If the tooth has already come in, it hurst while drinking or eating anything cold (sharp stabbing pain that makes you want to rip your face off) then you more than likely have an infected tooth. That can only be taken care of by a round of antibiotics and root canal therapy or extraction. Your dentist SHOULD have you on antibotics for a week before any treatment is done regardless of which way you decide to go.
All this to say... it COULD be anything... there are few things that can be done witout your dentist being completely involved, and Aleve is the best pain reliever I have found.
Reply:first: avoid the Tylenol, try with the Ibuprofen. second: you could rinse your mouth with diluted hydrogen peroxide (1/3 of peroxide and 2/3 of water) to kill the offending bacteria. try to use a syringe to rinse between the gum and the wisdom tooth, cause this place is where many bacteria colonize and produce inflammation and pain.

16 days ago i had my 3rd wisdom tooth removed, the bottom one on my left side. and now over 2-weeks later i still have a small on and off pain come and go there. last wed i went back and saw the dentist and he said it looked fine and healing. does anyone know when the pain will fully stop?
Wisdom Teeth?
well i dunno if it's different with just one removed
but i had 4 removed a while back, but it was because i needed my bottom left and top right removed... the dentist said he had to take out the straight ones because they wouldn't have a tooth to meet you know?
like the top left didn't meet a bottom left and that would have caused problems, i didn't look into it much. it seemed like a good reason to take them all, hahaha
but i don't think i recovered completely (like as in eating chewy food) for a month, and even still sometimes when food gets back where there are no teeth there is discomfort.
i can ask is it in relation to anything (like eating, yawning, after you sleep, etc. etc.) and all i can say is see your dentist for more advice.
shortly after getting mine removed two friends also did and one was over the pain in around the same time as me, and the other was eating spaghetti in a week... everyone's different.
your pain might have been caused by the sutures, my friends had no problems with theirs but mine caused all kinds of pain and bleeding problems...
again i must stress for you to see your dentist, i'm just an 18-year old kid, what do i know anyway!?!
Reply:four to six weeks. a dental extraction is a lot like a broken bone. The socket has to fill in with new bone. takes a while. this, too, shall pass...
Reply:Healing is different for everyone. When I had my lower wisdom teeth removed, I had the on-and-off pain for about a month. If it is really that bothersome, ask if he can prescribe or extend a prescription for the pain.
Reply:IT WILL HURT FOR A WHILE IM SURE ,YOU JUST GOT YOUR THEETH RIPED OUT
Reply:About four weeks. I had all four of mine pulled out at the same time, it was a killer.
Reply:I had all four removed at the same time this past fall. Fortunately I did not experience a lot of pain, and started taking aspirin the second day. My issue was more with not being able keep food down. I'm sure it varies from person to person. Definitely remember to keep the area as clean as you can with mouthwash and taking any antibiotics the oral surgeon gives you. I hope you feel better soon.

I'm only 17 and I have my first wisdom tooth coming in. I have no insurence and I already know I'm gonna have to get it pulled by the way it's coming in. Grrr. How much is it to get a tooth pulled w/out insurence and what would happen if I just don't get it pulled?

I'm a dental assistant in MN and we charge anywhere from $125-$325 for taking out teeth. It all depends on if it surgical or not. You may be referred to an oral surgeon and sometimes they charge a little bit more. You also have to option of being put out there. If that's the case, if you have all 4 wisdom teeth, you might as well get them all done at once and then you never have to worry about them again! Good Luck!
Reply:It all depends on exactly what type of extraction you need, where you live, and whether or not general anesthetic is required.

Yes, I do!
A school with a Dental School in it.
I found myself in a similar situation once.
The college downtown had a dental school.
It was honestly the BEST dental experience I have ever had.
I guess it was because these people are getting graded on it!
I got out of the place with my wisdom tooth fixed, was in very little pain, received Tylenol 3, and was only $25.00 poorer.
If I ever found myself in the same situation again, I would look up a Dental School with no problem.
You can also consider them for teeth cleaning with a dental hygienist program.

you have to get that tooth out. it is going to get infected and you will be in some serious pain.
i would call the health department
or an oral surgeon and find out what your options are.

My wisdom tooth could be infected. Every time i touch my tongue to it i get a gross smell in my mouth. Also the middle of it doesn't look right. If left long enough, could this give you health problems and if so what? Is this tooth infected?

Wisdom teeth?
Yup, definitely sounds like your wisdom tooth is infected. The ''gross smell'' is because there is an infection there and most probably an abscess, caused due to an untreated cavity which became deep and went into the pulp/ or up to the nerves of your tooth. Go to a dentist and have it checked, he/she will prescribe antibiotics which u must take as prescribed, otherwise the infection spreads to your blood stream which is known as bacteremia, which is dangerous. And of course they will probably advise you for and extraction of the infected tooth. Don't delay, get those antibiotics into u as soon as possible.
Reply:sounds as though it may be tooth decay. best get it checked out as if it is it will only get worse
Reply:ewww......go to the dentist, of coarse it's infected...your teeth shouldn't smell, it's roiting away
Reply:It probably is infected. If you leave it in it could cause the infection to go into your blood stream and then you could die. It will also eventually cause you unbearable pain. You can go to a dentistry school and they take it out about 2/3 cheaper than a regular dentist.
good luck!
Reply:yes and see a dentist....
Reply:if it is infected.. you can actually die from it
(like that American black 5 year old boy who died from a tooth infection last week)
plus the infection will go into your gums and rut the rest of your good teeth.. dont mess with your health
Reply:A tooth infection is serious. It can lead to bacteria going to the brain and killing you. I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I was 18 and I have been ok since. You need to get them out ASAP. My ex just had his pulled out and his infection which was starting to spread, went away after he had them pulled out. You need to be on antibiotics in the meantime. Don't wait do it now! Take care.

Reply:I had a similar thing happen to me a while back. Along with the smell mine also tasted pretty bad, especially when I picked at it with my tounge. after a self examination with a toothpick and toothbrush, I found out a piece of food had somehow lodged itself back there. I used a toothpick to pry it out; in this paticular case the food was under a flap of my gums, turns out it was the food that was rotting, not my tooth. If I were you I would try to clean the area as best I could by brushing, then using some mouthwash. Then try to pick out what ever might be in there. If it turns out there is no food go to your dentist, see what they have to say. Usually your gums will be infected before your teeth, so keep brushing and I hope this helped out with your problem.
Reply:yes.. Get to your dentist QUICKLY !!
Reply:It's possible it may be infected, especially if it is painful. Tooth infections, if left untreated, could possibly travel to other organs, such as the brain, or down into the chest. I'd go see a dentist if ypu are concerned. Usually we get our wisdom teeth removed while still young. (I was supposed to get mine out when I was 18 but waited and had all sorts of problems with them. Well, finally they're gone and I feel much better.)

Wisdom teeth?
My boyfriend has a bite of a behind his top last tooth, hes been in pain today and has been cranky. Is it his wisdom tooth? anything he can do right now for the pain. I know pain killers, Tylenol and all. but anything else? does he have to get them pulled out when they grow in if it is his widom tooth???
Wisdom teeth?
For the pain I could only suggest to put some oral-gel on it to numb is gums. That would help his gums. If it is a wisdom tooth he might have to get it removed. He needs to have a dentist look at it and take some x-rays. I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out. But both my dad and mom only got 3 pulled. So he might not have to get them pulled only if it cause problems with other teeth. Such as over crowding, cant brush them cause they are to far back. Hope this helped.

Wisdom Teeth...?
Im experiencing ALOT of pain with one of my wisdom teeth breaking through. My cheek and my gum has been swollen for about 5 days now and i can feel a little lump on the edge of my gum. I've also noticed a really bad taste in my mouth.
I've not been able to eat anything but soup as it hurts to eat. It even hurts to smile because of my cheek.
Do you think i should get it removed? Is it normal to experience this?? and also do they impact on flying as i am travelling around at the moment and am scared to fly incase it causes more problems...
thanks for your help...
Wisdom Teeth...?
Talk to your dentist immediatlely. He/She maybe able to prescribe something for your pain. Depending on your discomfort they may want to you to have them removed (probably not a bad idead any way). Not sure on the flying, but the different air pressure may cause more added pressure on you teeth.
Reply:I would see a dentist or orthodontist to see if it needs to be removed, often they remove them because it will cause the rest of your teeth to become crooked. It will hurt while it comes in, just like teething in babies.
Reply:Wisdom teeth are a valuable asset to the mouth when they are healthy and properly positioned. Often, however, problems develop that require their removal. When the jaw isn't large enough to accommodate wisdom teeth, they can become impacted (unable to come in or misaligned). Wisdom teeth may grow sideways, emerge only part way from the gum or remain trapped beneath the gum and bone.
Extraction of wisdom teeth is generally recommended when:
* Wisdom teeth only partially erupt. This leaves an opening for bacteria to enter around the tooth and cause an infection. Pain, swelling, jaw stiffness and general illness can result.
* There is a chance that poorly aligned wisdom teeth will damage adjacent teeth.
* A cyst (fluid-filled sac) forms, destroying surrounding structures such as bone or tooth roots.
Patients should ask the dentist about the health and positioning of their wisdom teeth. The dentist may make a recommendation for removal or send the patient to an oral surgeon for further evaluation.
Reply:YOU SHOULD CONSULT WITH A GENERAL DENTIST AND HE WILL REFER YOU TO AN ORAL SURGEON. THE BAD TASTE AND PAIN IS POSSIBLE INFECTION. IT'S NORMAL TO EXPERIENE THIS WHEN THEY SHOULD BE REMOVED. DO NOT! LET A GENERAL DENTIST REMOVE THEM AND MAKE SURE YOU DO GET AN ANTIBIOTIC! SOMETIMES AN ORAL SURGEON WILL REQUIRE YOU TO TAKE AN ANTIBIOTIC PRIOR TO REMOVAL. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!

I Am Going This Thursday To Get All My Wisdom Teeth Pulled. Some People Say That It Hurts Like Hell And Some Say It's Not That Bad. They Say They're Gonna Put Me To Sleep. So On A Scale From 1-10 How Bad Do You Think It'll Hurt And Be Serious. Only Answer If You've Had It Done
Wisdom Teeth?
it pains me to see yet another person who cant undo their caps lock
Reply:I had my top two pulled, and they had to cut the gum to get at them. I was only frozen, and it was sore for two days, Pretty gross the first few hours after - but OK after that.
Reply:I had all of them pulled at once. I will say that it hurts enough to where you might get a small headache, but it doesn't extremely hurt. For the scale, I'd say it was like a 5. But that goes down after you start taking the pain pills anyway.
Reply:Does not hurt at all and it is so worth it. It is a very strange feeling when they put you to sleep. They connect the IV into your arm and tell you it will help you relax. Up to this point most people are a "little" nervous. Within 20 seconds you will be sound asleep and will wake up after the operation. A canker sore or a cut tongue is worse than getting your wisdom teeth pulled. You will be fine. I ran 4 miles the very same evening after the operation. Only complaint is you can't eat like you normally would for the first 2 days. After that, you will be 100% fine in regards to eating. Worst part is making sure you don't bite your tongue off while it is still numb from the operation. Your tongue and mouth will be numb for the first 2 hours or so. Be careful not to chomp on your tongue cause you won't be able to feel it and when the numbness goes away you will have a huge gash on your tongue and a lot of pain. I did this once after getting a shot from my dentist. A mistake I will only make once.
Reply:i had all four pulled out at once. b/c they put me to sleep, i really didn't feel anything. i'm being honest. hence, i'd strongly recommend being put asleep when you get the procedure done - unless of course, you have some known allergic reaction to the medication.
after the deed has been done and you are sent home, it will hurt a bit. you'll come home with a whole bunch of cotton stuffed in your mouth to help stop the bleeding. they'll give you some pain medication as well (but don't use it if you don't need to). tough it out, but really it wasn't too bad. so don't be scared. good luck on thursday.
Reply:I had mine done local ans. and I was fine the only feeling you will notice is the shot since you will have the privledge of being put out. As far as recuperation goes be good; No smoking, drinking out of straws, and do not I repeat do not change the guaze to quickly or talk too much after wards. Since this will losen the clots and cause dry socket, which is what I ended up with. Other than that, you will live- mouths heal quickly and life goes on. It's not that bad I did mine inbetween colledge classes left at 11 and came back at 12:30. However your's maybe a little longer since you will be getting knocked out. I give it a 1 on the ricter scale compared to my previous accidents.
Reply:had all four of mine pulled 4 months ago and it didnt hurt, just the needles scared the living **** out of me and for whatever reason towards the end a few tears came out; maybe it was because it took so dam long or just all the dam tugging and cutting scared me lol. For me it hurt like frikin hell when i got out. Thank god for the pain killers.
Whats more, my face changed, i know they say no thats impossible but mine definitely did and it was a really drastic change too. its fuked up because nobody told me it would change and after researching and talking to a dental technician i found out that yes your face does frkin change. Mine changed drastically, from a triangular face all of a sudden to a square. so messed up. the past few months ive been wearing a dental mask or a scarf around my face when i go out because im not frikin used to looking averagly blah. im due for a chin implant to fix my dam face in May. god wanted to sue the dentist.

Wisdom Teeth?
My wisdom teeth are fully grown in now, but they bother me every once in awhile. Should I get them pulled? Or is it too late? My dentist didn't want to pull them when they were growing even though they hurt like crazy.
Wisdom Teeth?
If the pain isn't terrible, I would leave them in. Otherwise, you might consider having them pulled.
However, pulling wisdom teeth isn't easy. Unlike most teeth, wisdom teeth have very long roots and usually must be cut from your gums.
They would put you under a general anestesia, cut them out, give you some pain killers, and send you home. It takes about 4 days to recover.
Thanks for asking, and I hope this helps!
Reply:Mine were pulled when I was 16, but they were bone impacted and would've messed up my teeth (I had braces) so I needed them out as soon as possible.
I'm not a dentist but I don't see the harm in removing them. If they don't hurt you at all, then I guess you could leave them but since they do...just take them out. It's not too late.
Reply:Get them pulled. If your dentist won't do it, get a second opinion from another dentist. You don't need them and if they're causing you discomfort you should have them removed.
Reply:if they bother you defiantly have them removed. they are the most likely teeth to get a cavity in since they are so far back, and they are harder to keep clean. also the can cause crowding and make look crooked. i work in an orthodontist office and we always recommend removal.
Reply:I think if they bother you that much you should see a different dentist for this situation. I don't think that wisdom teeth are required. I had mine removed and am much more comfortable.

I am going out of my MIND... My Head hurts- Eyes hurt- Stomach hurts, and Jaw Hurts.
This morning I had blood in my mouth- Hurts to floss- My gums are swollen- Hurts to eat...
Has anyone else felt this bad over Wisdom teeth?? I have an Appt on Tuesday for XRays- But I feel like Im dying now!

YES AND THE PAIN IS WORSER THEN LABOR PAINS!ASK THE DR. TO CHECK FOR ABSES OR INFECTION......YOUR STOMACH SHOULD NOT HURT THOUGH.
Reply:you might have a abcess as i had those symptoms.
Reply:It sounds like one or more are infected (likely gum infection). You probably should call the dentist and ask if you should be seen sooner. If not until Tuesday, use an over-the-counter pain medication (such as ibuprofen) that is safe for you and warm, salt-water rinses.
Reply:Sounds like an infection of some sort. You will most likely need antibiotics before have a wisdom extraction done. If your wisdom teeth are errupted, then opt to have them taken out. I had a cracked wisdom tooth, so I got both of the upper wisdoms taken out ( because they were hard to floss in between). Since you are going to the dentist, dont be afraid to tell him what is going on. The stomach pains and nauseu may be coming from aspirin you are taking. Try taking ibprofuen for pain, not asprin. Asprin can thin the blood and produce more inflammation and bleeding. Also try an ice-pack on the area of the face where the tooth is, this will help with the inflammation also. Also a warm salt-water rinse at night will help ease inflammation ( 1 teaspoon of salt to 8 oz of water). You can also spray chloroseptic ( yeah the throat spray) to numb the pain on the area that is hurting.
SEE A DR. ASAP!!!!
Reply:Gargle a mixture of salt and warm water or gargle a shot of whiskey or rum for curbing pain due to teething "wisdom teeth". More remedies and information regarding your wisdom teeth at http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/

i had mine pulled out about 2 months ago. it is not as bad as you think at all. but it also depends on your dentist really.. if you have worked with your dentist before, then you know if he/she are too harsh (i hate those dentist). my dentist put enough anestesia, and pulled my tooth gentley. i left his office, and was talking on the phone with clients, and had the cotton in my mouth... icalled the dentist after 2 hours, becasue my tooth was still bleading...so they told me to stop talking for an hour and it will stop bleeding.. and that exactly what happend. ...
you will not have a hole in you gum, it will smooth and even out out in less than a month.
why are you pulling them out??????
do you really really have to?
i pulled mine only because it can not be fixed
EDIT:
My daughter is going to have them pulled out too.
good luck dear...do not be scared..really, But, tell your dentist to go gentely, and he will, and it wont hurt..trust me. let me know what happens tomorrow..Okay?

my 3 sisters and myself had our wisdom teeth out at the same time. i had a full dinner that night when my sisters couldnt even talk. it took me two days to get over the pain completely but my one sister it took 3 weeks. so i guess it depends on you
Reply:I had all of my wisdom teeth out at once! I had just the normal stitches not the disolving ones which helps your mouth to heal faster - the stitches were out in a few days where the dissolving onces can take up to weeks.
Anyway i had a 2 panadol before i went in (to help keep the swelling down after) and i was eating normal food within a day or so. I had no swelling at all.
But then, it really depends on how your body will react to it. But it wasn't a problem for me at all.
Good Luck! - believe me - its MUCH better without them . .
Reply:When I got it done... I can't say that it wasn't scary to me, but it wasn't nearly as bad as what I imagined it. It will just take a while for the bleeding to stop and feel pretty beat up (so go home and be waited on for the rest of the day ; ) ), and you'll be rather sore for a while.
Reply:I have to get mine pulled out too... From what I know they completely put you under and you won't feel a thing. When its starts to wear off you will feel pain for the next few days usually a week... You can't eat hard foods and you can't sip outta straws..... Make sure you have jello, soup, yougurt, and ice cream on hand... You will also have to change your gauges every two hours.... Make sure most importantly you stay on top of your pain medication.... Whatever your doctor gives you is important. Take it every four to six hours and you sure be fine. Oh yea and make sure you have someone drive you home because once again you will feel groggy for a few days.... Wish you luck and hope everything works out...... Just relax because if your scared then everything will go wrong....
Reply:The first days the worst. Your dentist should give you same pain killers, if they don't then take something like Tylenol to keep the pain at bay. You might also what to keep ice on your cheeks for the first day 20 min on each side and that helps.
Reply:I get mine out tomorrow,
but the worst part is that my dad is taking me, and he has this crappy van that I have to ride in,

Wisdom teeth =[.?
ok so i am getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled in 3 weeks and i am really nervous. what exactly happens and will it really hurt??? also will my cheeks swell up really huge???
Wisdom teeth =[.?
eat a whole pineapple the day before! that's what i did and... no swelling. now, whether those two events were directly related or not, i couldn't say... but why not? pineapple is tasty.
Reply:You will be put under and then you will wake up with gauze in your mouth and probably go home and sleep for a while. You may be a little sore, but you can take Tylenol for that. My cheeks didn't swell a whole lot and it was really only for the first day or two. Just REMEMBER: do not eat ANY chewy food for a few days. You may think that you can do it, but your jaw will hurt afterwards! I learned the hard way!! And you will get a syringe type thing after a week or so and you will have to flush out the places that the teeth were removed so that no food or anything gets stuck. Then you just have to wait for your stitches to fall out since they are dissolvable most of the time. It's not painful at all, kind of gross, though.
Reply:i have the same problem,'
except im only getting three pulled.
and its in like 4 or 5 weeks.
lol.
but i researched it a little bit,
and they say it hurts after you get them pulled,
and when you get home.
like you can't eat anything or they will hurt really bad.
but i think that if they do a good job,
then it won't hurt that bad.
:D
good luck!
and i hope it doesn't hurt for you.
:]
Reply:I got my 2 top wisdom teeth pulled. I didn't really feel any pain. The only thing that hurt a little is when the used the needle to numb it,otherwise you just feel pressure but not severe pain. If you still do feel pain the detist will ask you and give you more novicane.
Reply:I would suggest that you talk to your doctor and find out if you can have 2 teeth taken out on one side first.
Go back a couple weeks later to have your other 2 removed.
To answer your questions. I just had a rotted molar removed at the University of Michigan Hospital this past Monday. I was numbed up pretty good and I experienced alot of pressure from the doctor pulling on my tooth. The first two or three days I had very bad facial and head pain from the extraction. I was given Tylenol 3 for the pain
The doctor will number your tooth with Novicaine. He/she will check and see if you can feel your tooth still. If you can't feel it then he will use a lux rod to loosen your tooth. Then he/she will use forcept pliars and grip the tooth and work it loose until it comes loose
Your extraction site will be packed with gauge and you will need to bite down to stop the bleeding. You will to keep your extraction sit very moist so you do not get dry socket.
You will experience pain and swelling after your tooth is extracted. Just place Ice packs on your face to get the swelling under control.
Good Luck to you
Reply:Get put to sleep it is much better. I got all 4 out last May and was asleep and no pain. Just remember you can't drink through a straw or 24-48hrs, because that can cause dry socket. Also 24hrs after they are out you need to rinse with warm salt watr for 2-3 times a day to prevent dry socket.
Ya it isn't bad at all. Only thing with me was they gave me vicodin which wasn't bad I just couldn't eat dairy with it because it didn't mix well with the dairy. Other than that I was ok.
It is best to have them all out at once.
Reply:I just got my wisdom teeth out today. It's the first time that I'd ever had surgery and to be honest, I didn't feel a thing. I know everyone says that people are lying when they tell you that it doesn't hurt, but maybe some people just have a higher pain tolerance. I guess it probably depends on what type of procedure you have done to have them taken out. I had gotten all four of mine taken out, and it's probably better that way, so then you don't have to go through it all again. I was put to sleep for mine, because I was way nervous just as you are. First they gave me laughing gas, and then they put an IV into my arm, and then after a couple of minutes they said they were going to give me the medicine, and BAM, right to sleep. After that, they will inject Novocain into the area. I didn't even know how long it took me to get to sleep. To me, it felt like I was in there for about five minutes and right back out. The only thing that even really hurt was the IV, which just pinches. Afterwards, they will give you a whole bunch of gauze to switch every 30 minutes. It's a hassle though, and disgusting. For me, my cheeks didn't really swell up at all so far.. but they still have a chance of doing so. I haven't felt any pain so far ;]. You will be fine, just relax! It's not as bad as half the people say it is!
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth (all 4) out this morning!
It depends what method your oral surgeon will be using, mine uses "deep sedation" which is sedation that puts you to sleep but without any risks.
Let me put it this way: I felt better AFTER my surgery than I did before!!! I put on my iPod. I got a needle stuck in my arm, I felt relaxed in 2 seconds and what literary felt like an instant I was already awake and in a recovery bed. Yes it was that amazing. The time between when I fell asleep and the IV needle took maybe 5 seconds at most. I take my medications so I have no pain, no bleeding, no swelling (right now). I only can't chew yet (don't want to risk breaking the stiches). So the bottom line is try to get "deep sedation" if you can. Most oral surgeons only use "conscious sedation" in which you will be awake but relaxed. It requires extra training in anesthesiology to be able to administer deep sedation.
So don't worry!!! It was the best surgery of my life because I wasn't awake for any of it!

Wisdom teeth.?
I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled in a few years, and it scares me! Give me the gory, painful details please!
Wisdom teeth.?
Don't stress about it, the worse thing that could happen to you is a dry socket, which can be painful but is fixable. I got mine out two years ago and had no problems. I was out for the entire procedure and was kinda groggy for the rest of the day, but other than that I had extremely minimal swelling and no bruising.
Seriously, if you're still waiting a few years for it, then put it out of your mind until then, it's really not that big of a deal.
Reply:In a few years!? Girl why have u started to worrry about it now?
In any event...They do hurt..I got put under and was somewhat aware of my surroundings. The dentist gave me a ricky martin cd to listen too...(yeeeeks) Thank god he put me under!!
And i was swolen like a chip munk ...but ate lots of ice cream and banana baby food! Yummo!
Reply:call me sadistic but I loved the procedure. I had a really great oral surgeon and I was totally comfortable in his office. At the consultation he gave me the little "you might not wake up, it could be infected, you could die" speech and I was a little scared, but 2 weeks later when I came back for the operation, things were great. I opted for general anesthesia--so I was totally out of the operation. When I woke up, I was pretty out of it, but by the end of the first day I was doing much better. They hydrocodiene was great--it kept it to a dull pain, as long as you took it every 4 hours.
don't freak out--you'll be fine :)
Reply:I had mine pulled maybe 2 years ago.
They gave me laughing gas before they put me under and then I woke up with my teeth gone. I was out for less than 1 hour.
There will be a lot of blood the first couple of hours so you have to change the bandages. They also gave me something that looked like headgear that holds ice packs to keep down to swelling. I also had a painkiller medicine and antibactonic(sp, sorry.) You do not have to take the painkiller but the other one you do. I threw up a couple of times, not sure why though.
I took one painkiller, threw it up and did not take another one because I was not in pain. I just looked really bad. I also had cysts under my teeth so they had to take those out.
I looked really bad for about 1 week and couldn't eat(I didn't lose weight though.) After a couple days, you have a syringe and you put hot water in it and put in the bottom holes to get out all the food and stuff that gets stuck. Not as bad as it sounds.
This is just me though. My aunt drove herself home and then went shopping as if she just went in for a check-up.
Reply:it's not bad at all. You go to office, get injected, fall asleep, wake up and go home. It's not even that painful afterwards.
Reply:supposedly the pain and swelling is pretty bad, and you will be sore for about a week.......i am getting mine out in a few months, once my new health insurance kicks in.....love those excellent hospital benefits.
Reply:You have nothing to worry about! I was worried before mine alot too, but trust me it is not bad. You have a little pain after the operation, usually not starting until the next day but my doc gave me all the pain medication I needed and really too much but of course I didn't complain. Like I said before, you have nothing to worry about!
Reply:i had all four pulled at once. They put me under. It hurts for a two or three days, but after that, its nothing. I dont think it was too bad. I ate soft foods and milkshakes, without a straw though cause with one could cause damage. And i had vicodin, so it was good.
Reply:My experience may be very different than everyone elses. I got 2 wisdom teeth pulled yesterday on the right side. I also had a 'pulpectomy' (root canal) the same day on another tooth which they then decided to pull anyway after they realized they couldn't save it. So, yesterday I had 3 teeth pulled and a pointless root canal. None of it hurt, it was very fast and I was wide awake for the whole thing. All I had was about 15 shots of Novocaine. I was shaking because I was so scared but all I felt was a lot of pressure, NO PAIN.
I left WITHOUT a prescription for any painkiller and was told that all I needed was to take about 4 Advil at a time. I didn't believe them that that was enough, so I went home and took 8 Advil but I'm fine. No swelling, no pain. The only thing I have is that my jaw muscles are a little sore from having my mouth open so wide and the side of my tongue is a little sore.
**One thing I need to point out is that my wisdom teeth were NOT impacted, they were just falling apart so I had them pulled. I am getting the other 2 out in the next few weeks. In total, I've now had 10 teeth pulled and yesterdays visit was the fastest and easiest by far with the least amount of bleeding/pain. They stitched up the area where the wisdom teeth were and so far so good. I may have just been lucky and gotten a good dentist this time because I've had horrible experiences before with other dentists pulling teeth.

I have to get all 4 or my wisdom teeth out. Should I do all at once or 2 at a time. I am nervous about it and want to get it over with but I dont want to have to do it again. I'm only getting numb for it and having laughing gas too. What are your experiences!!!?
Wisdom teeth?
do all 4, it's the same pain whether it's 2 or 4.....which in my case was very little pain.
sleep sitting up as much as you can.
I didn't chew food for about a week because i was afraid of getting stuff in the holes.
don't use a straw.
Reply:Think about whether you need them out at all. if they're perfectly healthy then you don't..
Reply:Its easier to get two at a time.. one big thing that helped me was... go to a local grocery store and get a medicinal plunger (not sure thats what its called). Something you can put water in and shoot a direct stream with. It will really help you keep the areas clean after they remove the teeth!!
Reply:you have to ask ur doctor if they are ready to be taken out. i had my second one taken out last week, just one though. i didnt feel a thing the most painful part was the needles. the recovery process is kind of anoyign thought because it hurts like i ***** and throbs at night. but nothing that painkillers wont help it. my xrays show two more growing out but my dentist told me that if i wait for it to grow out it will make it easier to take out. my twin sis on the other hand, had all three taken out at the same time. she recovered faster than me. it depends how impacted ur teeth are and all that. the thing is, after my sister removed her first two, she felt EVERYTHING. the numbness wore off and it was very painful. she had a total of like 9 shots lol.
Reply:get all 4 done at once, you will have some pain afterward, but usually is easily managed with tylenol. Follow your dentist's instructions for after care, so the gums do not get infected. In a couple of days you will be fine, then you won't have to go through it again.
Reply:Depends how deep they are. I had to have 2 of mine taken out and decided to take all 4 out at the same time and I was in bed for 3 days and in a lot of pain. So, if they are all close to the surface, then do all of them, if not I would stick to doing the ones that need it.
If I could do it over again I would have only done 2.
Reply:definitly all four
Reply:You should get all four of them out in one sitting so you don't have to deal with any problems with them in the future. And you don't have to deal with repeating the aftercare (example: salt water rinse directions among post-extraction instructions you may be given, and probably stitches).
If you do it multiple sessions (like two at a time), it will cost you more money.
The dental surgeon will numb you up real good before he pulls your tooth. Assuming your wisdom teeth have grown out normally, it will take only maybe 15 seconds at most for him to extract each tooth.
I had all my wisdom teeth extracted in THREE sittings during a two year span... First one was my lower right tooth due to its advanced decay. Second sitting was for both my upper teeth because one of them had a cavity (I agreed to have them both out if that occurred.) Third and last sitting was for my lower left tooth due to a gumline cavity. In hindsight, I should've requested them all pulled in one session to save a few hundred dollars.
Reply:Your dentist has informed you on having your wisdom teeth pulled. He or she will prepare you. It is normal to be nervous. The wisdom teeth are not necessary, sure you will experience pain whether you have two at a time removed or all 4 of them. You can decide this but your dentist will help you. If you choose to have them all pulled its the same pain
and on the same bill. If its two at a time your dentist will make an appointment to have the other ones extracted.
Reply:It is SO individual how you will react You can ask 20 people and get 20 different answers.
For me. I had one side done in 1 visit and the other side in a separate visit. I had NO pain at all. The dentist just used the regular freezing as for fillings and the like. Even after the freezing came out, I had no pain. No ache in my jaw. Nothing. The only symptom was a wee bit of tenderness like I always get where the freezing goes in.
If you normally sail through other dental procedures, you will sail through this too.
Reply:It depends how old you are. If you feel you are ready to have them out, usually they reccommend all 4 at the same time.

can anyone whos had to have all 4 wisdom teeth out (3 impacted) tell me what to expect? im going to be put under anesthesia or whatever and ive never had "surgery" before even minor. thanks=/
Wisdom teeth?
I just had mine taken out yesterday. I did what you yourself are doing. I looked on the internet for how other people had to deal with it, and what they went through. I got myself all nervous and was actually ready to reschedule from what I had read. Instead I went in yesterday, and they hooked me up to an iv. They told me they were going to relax me, so gave me a slight injection, and boom I was out. Dont remember a thing. All I remember is waking up from what felt like to be 10 seconds later and I was done. NO pain. NO swelling. Nothing. All those horror stories were not true for me. I was perfectly fine. And I could talk. I was even yelling a couple hours later while I was joking with my friends. It is now a day later, and I still have no pain, no swelling, and no bleeding. My wisdom teeth bled for like 10 minutes. Don't beleive everything you read. Trust me.
Reply:ok. they should give you good pain killers afterwards. you can't eat or drink anything for 24 hours and no smoking or you'll get a dry socket ... or 4. and those are REALLY painful. you probably won't want to move your head too much. you'll be able to eat and drink and carry on your normal talking and stuff after 2 to 4 days. it's really nothin to worry about.
Reply:expect pain, allot of pain............
make sure you have Tylenol 3 with codeine.. tell the to give you prescription
Reply:i just had that done in february. and dont worry it's not that bad. it was my first "surgery" too. once ur drugged, u wont remember anything. and u'll be loaded up on vicodin or something so it shouldnt hurt that badly. but ur cheeks may be a little puffy. good luck!
Reply:pain..alot of it. they suck really bad. you cant eat. and i even puked from it. they should give you painkillers so make sure and take them. i think its best to just sleep basically the whole time.
Reply:Ok I had mine removed 6 years ago and my boyfriend just got his removed 1 month ago and its not that bad actually my boyfriend removed all of his and he felt nothing afterward and they didn't put him under they just gave him local anestisia. He was able to talk his mouth was not swollen he just had to eat jello and stuff like that for 2 or 3 days but he was fine.
For me my face did swell up and I did turn black and blue but that is because I have fair skin. I was in a lot of pain for a couple of days but they give you pain killer and antibotics. I removed 3 wisdom teeth plus a cyst that was attached to my wisdom tooth which caused to a lot of my pain. But over all you should be fine and your smart getting them out all at once so you'll only suffer once. Good luck. Just remember you will be fine and the pain will go away and your mouth will feel a lot better. Good Luck
Reply:thanks for asking a good question. I hafta get mine out next week and I am nervous too. I've had oral surgery before. I had to be put under anesthesia - the kind they put in your arm (IV). It didn't make me sick though.

Wisdom teeth?
How important is pulling the wisdom teeth? Is it worth the pain and the hassle? Is there a recommended age/range?
The dentist wants them pulled for my son, but I feel that 15 is a little too young for this..
Love to hear from the "been there done that" and the experts on the subject.
Wisdom teeth?
All depends on the individual. Different people have different mouth configurations, some have room for the wisdom teeth, some don't, some they never come in, and when they come in varies widely.
Most oral surgeons like to wait until the teeth break the gums prior to removal, but that is not always possible. If a condition like a bad angle or crowding occurs, it is important to get them removed sooner than later to avoid complications.
I have had all 4 removed at the same time when I was 18. It was not among the more pleasant life experiences, but the bottom two were growing in at a 45 degree angle into my rear molars. They elected to remove the uppers as preventative maintenance, incase they decided to cause trouble, and it is better to get it over in one shot than to have to do it again, since you will not want to do it again after the first experience.
Mine had not broken the gums, so they had to cut the gums and extract the teeth. The uppers went easy, but the lowers needed to be drilled and broken in half in order to get them out of my jaw.
I was awake.
Hearing the squeak, squeak, crunch when they had the pick in to break them was not comfortable.
Everything healed pretty well, and I could eat in a couple days. I had a couple of embedded bone chips in my gums for afew months after the surgery, that eventually worked their way out. Those were irritating, but not a big deal.
Reply:If your dentist wants them pulled, then they're probably growing in a way that will hurt your son's teeth or gums. Let him pull them if he thinks it's the best thing to do. It's better for him to have them pulled than to let them push other teeth out of the way, trying to grow in.
Reply:I am 29 and still have all my wisdom teeth. In fact, I'm stil waiting on 1 to come down. If he doesn't have much space between his existing teeth, the wisdom teeth will more than likely cause him some serious pain. Take him to another dentist, or an orthodontist, just for a 2nd opinion.
Reply:I waited too long and my wisdom tooth got infected and had to get them removed, take them out at the first sign of pain.I was amazed it didn't hurt at all to have them removed because I heard horror stories about others, and I'm a baby when it comes to things like that.
Reply:It really depends on the position of the teeth, WHEN they decide to come down, and how much damage to his adult alignment it will do. Your dentist/oral surgeon is best equipped to make this determination. I believe mine finally started to come down when I was in college (I was very late). I was lucky enough to have naturally straight teeth, so never had to have braces -- which would have been undone had the wisdom teeth been allowed to come down and push my adult teeth out of alignment. And my "been there done that" advise says, have them knock him out! Don't do the "local" anesthetic.
Reply:I got you here.
My mom is a dental assistant and has been for over 10 years.
-pulling wisdom teeth is a good idea if there is a risk of dental problems such as crowding.
- it is definetely worth the pain and hassle. It does not hurt that badly, more like sore for a couple days and it's not that big of a hassle really. drive there, pull teeth, pay money, done.
- recommended age is when the teeth start coming in/presenting a problem.
15 is a great age. I had 2 of mine pulled at 15. I only had 3 wisdom total and when the two started coming in it hurt a lot and my teeth started crowding. So they were pulled and now I am 17 and have no problems with my teeth.
if the dentist recommends that they be pulled then you should go ahead and let them do it. They are trained to see problems that everyday people cannot. If you don't get it taken care of now there could be problems later.
so yeah, I would just have him do it. And tell him it doesn't hurt that much at all. It always seems so much worse than it actually is.
Reply:Its better to take them out because
a. if you dont they might damage your other teeth by making them crooked
b. its painful when they are actually coming out [ripping through ur gums...]
its not painful to get them pulled out...all you feel is the shots and it doesnt take long for them to yank it out...try to get a strong guy dentist...if u get a girl she might take a little longer with all that tugging and pulling...luckily i have a strong dentist =)
Reply:well most of the ppl get there wsidom teeth puklled out its not really a big deal but some ppl get lucky and have certain wisdom teeeth that wont have to be pulled out. and hes 15 its not a big deal i mean he been wothout them this whole time im sure heel be fine after they get pulled out
Reply:As far as I know you only need to have them pulled if they are starting to "crowd" your son's other teeth. I'm no expert but I think most people wait until they are around 17 or 18 to see if they are going to be a problem or not. I was 21 when I had mine pulled. Two came in sideways and I kept biting the inside of my cheeks with them. The other two were impacted and had to be surgically removed. For me it was worth it. If they are causing him pain or discomfort or causing his teeth to be crooked then do it. If not I would wait, some people don't need to have them pulled but most do. Good luck!
Reply:My parents recently reached the same dilemma last month. Our orthodontist suggested that my brother should have his wisdom teeth removed because it could cause crowding in his teeth to occur. If your son has had braces I recommend talking to your orthodontist or dentist. My brother is about 20 and planning to have this done within the year. I am about your son's age and I will have to have it done next year. If you don't want the teeth to crowd or become slightly crooked I recommend doing it. I have had molars taken out in the past, they're not that bad if you have been given Novocaine and laughing gas (that really helped me keep my mind off it).
Reply:Most people know got them pulled in the 15-16-17 year old range. me included. Many who waited until their 20's or even 30's ended up having problems and needed them out anyway and it was more elaborate and complicated.
I would trust your dentist and most likely suggest that you err on sooner than later --
Get some ice cream for later =)
Reply:I had mine pulled when I was 18. None of them were impacted, but my mouth just didn't have enough room for them. If a oral doctor said they needed to be pulled, it is because they are impacted, or like me, no room so they kept on getting infected. 15 is young, but if your son is having problems with them, and a doctor agrees, they need to go.
Been here, done that experience - make sure (if you get it done) he takes his pain killers BEFORE the Novocaine wears off! It hurts if you don't! (Been there, done that!)

Reply:Do it please! My dad was so frugal and my wisdom teeth caused my entire jaw to deform over time. I had to get braces and all four teeth pulled when I got a Job at 19 it took $2000 out of my pocket. I love my dad but resent him today because of it -- he had good insurance. I am 31 now and have problems with jaw and neck. I will probably need surgery on my jaw in a few years.
Reply:if they need to be pulled ,theres usually not enough room for them to grow in ,so they tilt and start pushing into your other teeth,it can cause a lot of tooth pain and bad migraines

Wisdom Teeth...?
one of my 17 year old daughter got all 4 of her wisdom teeth pulled out today. all 4 spots have stitches and she's in a lot of pain. She has ice and pain killers, but her mouth is still extremely sore. I told her it would take time to heal, but anybody have any ideas on how to soothe the pain?
Wisdom Teeth...?
It sounds like you're doing exactly what you should be doing. Ice and pain killers are the only thing that helped me. For the first day or two, I thought I was gonna die of pain. It subsides, though. She should try not to get up and down much and keep air out of her mouth to avoid dry socket (which is worse).
Reply:I had tylenol laced with kodene. Then my mom took a pillow case and cut it into a long strip. She padded it with ice and tied it up around my head. and i rented 3 movies a day and sat with ice and ate only dairy queen vanilla soft serve.
Reply:OUCH! I had 2 of mine pulled last winter and painkillers worked for me. obviously, her mouth should be sore for at least the first 2 days. i know my mom gave me applesauce mashed potatoes and hot soup while i was recovering.
also be careful with the pills, you don't want her addicted!
Reply:Just place your hand on her chin and pray for her in Jesus name and command that pain to go and she will be relieved for good.
Reply:the doctor gave me pain killers and that made everything super.. she wont be able to eat solids for a few days though.. soup and jello it is!
Reply:maybe she needs better pain meds? i had all 4 of mine out at the same time and hardly had any pain. maybe she got an infection if it's really that bad?
Reply:My mom (dentist) always told me to be careful with who I pick to pull my wisom teeth out becaue sometimes they can get air pockets inside the incision and cause a lot of pain. When that happens, the patient has to go back the the dentist has to re stitch it or something like that, I wasn't fully listening when she told me all this... when I should have! But it could just be from surgery. If the pain killers aren't working, I would call her dentist tomorrow and tell him about it and see if he/she can prescribe something stronger for her so she wont be in so much pain. Sorry! hope she feels better soon.
Reply:my husband, 24, just had his removed a week ago and thats all that could really be done, just take the medication and apply the ice. it will subside in a few days.

I'm 15 and I'm starting to get my wisdom teeth. They hurt severely and my whole jaw hurts along with it. What's something I can do to make the pain go away?
Wisdom Teeth?
Try ambesol or over the counter pain killer for now, but you really should see your dentist... most people have them removed.
Reply:Go see a Dentist. Most dentist recommend taken wisdom teeth out because they push on your other teeth and cause the kind of pain you are having. Most people have a jawline that is too small for the wisdom teeth to come in properly. If $$ is an option try a medical school that has a dental department where students work along side a licensed doctor. Their rates are much lower. Also, try Sears Dental.

currentally im recovering from surgery right now and it sucks b/c my mouth is really swollen and i was vometing this morning but you need to get them removed ASAP becuase your jaw will start to hurt worse just like mine did. the ecover process takes liek 48 hours before you look normal again and 2 weeks bfore u can eat like hard foods again. yeah they told me i have the mouth of an 18 year old but some people just get their teeth early likeyou and me.
you need to go to a dentist and get them removed becuase they can effect the rest of your teeth and push your teeth tighter and tighter together. adn whatever yyou do dont take a over the counter pan killer like the first person who respnded wrote cuz that stuff is stronger the vicadin!!! just go to your dentist as soo as you can.

Im getting my wisdom teeth out. What is your best advice and what are good foods to eat after?
Wisdom Teeth?
Whatever you do don't drink with a straw!!!! This can cause dry sockets which really hurt. I would stick to soft foods, all liquids is not necessary. I did eat alot of soup, but grilled cheese goes down pretty easy, icecream helped alot the first couple days, eggs, pancakes, mac %26amp; cheese, those types of things
Reply:ok my buddy just got his out. ice. ice. ice. ice your face every 10 mins unless your sleeping. and take the drugs they give you. and also get your rest. cuz after the drugs to knock you out. they will hurt like a beotch. get as much sleep as you can. then ice your face every other 10 mins. yes its alot of work. but it keeps the swelling down. as for eating food. you may not want to have anything for alogn time. but i suggest foods that you don't ahve to chew. like milkshakes. jello(great one). that stuff mashed potatoes. that good stuff. umm all i can say is my buddy wasn't miserable but he said they hurt like a mofo. and i have all hope in you can do this :) and just think about it if it gets bad. read my advice and its the only time its done. after its done once they aren't there anymore for it to hurt =) good luck
Reply:eat nothing but soup for a few days the best is homemade fruit smothies out of a blender you have to pour them into your mouth though if you try a straw you will reopen your wounds
Reply:This is a pretty common procedure these days and recovery is quick : )
Extraction usually takes between five and 30 minutes and usually can be performed by a dentist using local anesthetic. During the procedure, an incision is made in the gum and a forceps is used to remove the whole tooth when possible. If the tooth is fully impacted or if the roots reach deeply into the jawbone, the tooth may have to be broken into pieces and each piece removed.
Patients will be restricted to clear liquids and soft foods for the first 12 hours following surgery. Straws should not be used because they can dislodge the clot that is forming. Patients should avoid hard or crunchy foods for two weeks following surgery. They may be asked to chew on only one side of their mouths for a period of time.
Patients are urged to rinse their mouths with warm salt water a half-dozen times after the first day following extraction. The salt water should be made up of a half-teaspoon of table salt and 8 ounces (236 milliliters) of water. Patients can brush their teeth, but they should be careful around the area where the tooth was removed.
There's lots more information below - take a look!

Reply:ouch! I can wait until I get mine out in a few months. But it's just like anything with bad teeth pain. Soup, milkshakes, soft ice cream (watch out for the freeze effect), some some cookies, crackers.
the list goes on, but try soup and milkshakes and really soft foods like applesauce before you try anything else. And this shouldn't last too long before you can actively eat bacon cheeseburgers and fried chicken again;)
Reply:just make sure you don't drink orange juice---it will burn!
Reply:try to stick with soft food like porridge for the first few days to prevent hurting your wounds
Reply:My best advice is ICE - the way I kept ice on my face sounds ridiculous, but it works! Take 2 ziploc bags and put ice in them. Take a bra and wrap it under your chin and tie the loose ends on top of your head. The cups of the bra should be right on your cheeks. Put the ice bags in the cups of the bra and you can sleep and not worry about having to switch the ice.
Reply:Of course one very important thing is to choose a qualified oral surgeon in your area. The experience of having impacted teeth will be less traumatic.
Second, if you are the apprehensive type, the procedure may be done under sedation or even general anesthesia so that you're anxiety level will be minimized. What's more you don't remember what happened during the surgical procedure.
There will be some limitation of activity of your jaws after removal of the impacted teeth. For this reason, your oral surgeon will instruct you to go on a soft diet. This is not a slimming diet. a soft diet is a nutritious meal that is prepared in such a way that it will require minimal chewing. For example, if you want to eat meat, you should mince it first then maybe mix it with soup. You may put in some noodle as carbohydrates. You will be on a soft diet for 24-48 hours. After this you must gradually go back to the more solid diet.
your oral surgeon will be giving you home care instructions. Be sure to follow them.
Reply:Have ice packs available and someone to keep an eye on for ya and to get stuff for you the day of the surgery so you don't have to get up (if you're being knocked out) since anesthesia could make you a little wobbly. Good foods to eat are yogurt, applesauce, pudding, spaghetti-o's or basically anything soft so you don't have to use any jaw action.
My wisdoms gave me so much trouble all thru my teens and 20's. They got impacted, abcessed, you name it. The pain after having them removed was nothing compared to how bothersome they can be. I think I only had to take 2 pain pills and took Motrin the rest of the time. The worst part for me was having that blood in my mouth and having to change the gauze they pack in there. A wise thing to do with prescription pain meds is to give them to a parent or friend, and have them dispense them to you since if the pain meds wear off and you wake up hurting you may not realize how recently you took the last one, take another one, then you'll wind up taking too much.
