Wisdom teeth?

How rare is it to not develop wisdom teeth?

Wisdom teeth?
Absence of one or more wisdom teeth is an example of hypodontia.

In dentistry, hypodontia is the condition of naturally having fewer than the regular number of teeth. Hypodontia explains a situation when there is a missing number of 6 teeth or less. The condition of missing over 6 teeth is called oligodontia.

In whites, the most commonly missing teeth are the wisdom teeth (25-35%), the upper lateral incisors (2%) or the lower second premolars (3%). The congenital absence of all teeth is called anodontia.

Hypodontia is often familial, or associated with ectodermal dysplasia or Down syndrome.

A similar condition is hyperdontia, in which there are more than the usual number of teeth.
Reply:thank you... Report It

Reply:My wisdom teeth never developed, none of them. My mother never had any either. After seeing what my buddies went through during boot camp after having theirs removed, I%26#039;m very thankful mine never developed. X-rays confirm they never grew. There%26#039;s no impaction. Report It

Reply:Its relativly rare, but it just means you are a step ahead in the human evolution, I only had 3 wisdom teeth, I%26#039;ve know people with only 1. Wisdom teeth are not needed, so as the human race moves on into the future more and more people will not have them. Just consider it good, cause trust me, having a swollen face for a week sucks.
Reply:I would think that it%26#039;s uncommon not to have wisdom teeth. They may not have erupted past your gums yet and are still under the surface, or within your jawbone.

If you%26#039;re really concerned about it your dentist can get an xray of the area where you wisdom teeth would be. It%26#039;s important to remove the wisdom teeth especially if they are pushing all of your other teeth forward.

Good luck!
Reply:Usually everyone gets wisdom teeth. If you%26#039;re old enough and you can%26#039;t feel them, they%26#039;re likely impacted and you may need them removed. They%26#039;re vestigial, anyway.
Reply:there is a difference betweed not developing wisdoms and not erupting wisdoms....

you need X-ray %26quot; mostly Panorama x-ray%26quot; to tell if it%26#039;s not developed.... OK....

NOW if u means not develop, that is rare enough to say almost non..... but if u means not erupted, it%26#039;s very common...

i wish that i helped
Reply:It is fairly uncommon to not have ANY wisdom teeth ....but I agree with cody that it is the way of the future. Many people don%26#039;t realize that our ancestors actually had TWO sets of wisdom teeth ( this is why some people still have a 5th or 6th tooth back there ) but as humans evolved and our jaw size decreased....those extra teeth were lost.
Reply:Wisdom teeth usually appear between the ages of 16 and 24.More remedies and information regarding your wisdom teeth at http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/
