Wisdom teeth?

I went to the dentist yesterday. And he told me that in the next 2 years all 4 of my wisdom teeth will have to come out. And I%26#039;m really nervous about that and I plan on putting that off for a while until I get my root canal done, but I heard that getting them pulled hurts and all kind of stuff. Is it really that painful?

Plus, he said I need to go to a special place to get them done. Why is that?

Wisdom teeth?
most general dentist dont do a lot of extractions. ESPECIALLY wisdom teeth. most people%26#039;s wisdom teeth aren%26#039;t fully errupted (above the gum line as much as they should be) when they need to come out (usually need to come out because they are impacted or crowding the other teeth), usually an oral surgeon is the best place to have them extracted. they may need to be surgically extracted. dont be nervous. almost everyone has their wisdom teeth extracted. most likely you will be put to sleep for the procedure anyways. so you wont even remember what happened. you%26#039;ll just need someone to drive you there, and dont make any plans for the next day or two.
Reply:you shouldn%26#039;t have to get them out if they don%26#039;t hurt! and yes a special dentist needs to work on you cuz they are trained to do this...so don%26#039;t worry, yes it may hurt for a couple days later but he/she will give you pills for the pain!
Reply:ok so i put off having my wisdom teeth out for over two years and let me tell you it was the dumbest thing i ever did! i wasnt in pain when i was first told to have them out...so my thought was well they dont bother me why should i??? well the answer was because two years later i had so much jaw pain that it got to the point i couldnt bare it anymore! i finally went to the dentist and was told that it was my wisdom teeth causing the pain and they needed to come out! so i had them out! and ur teeth looked all different and crazy ways because that means they are impacted...which is what usually a happens to them and is the biggest reason you have to have them out other than getting an infection....... first of all you need to go to a different place to have them done because you need to go to an oral surgeon! these are the qualified dentist type people to do the surgery! this is a very common surgery now a days that can be done within as quickly as an hour! i was in and out in about 45 min to an hour! i was so nervous! i didnt want to go....i cried alot before hand and was very stressed about it! but just take ur mom or someone who can comfort you to go with you...trust me it helps plus you wont be able to drive after!!! so yes you will be put to sleep....well they will do what is called a conscience sedation....but trust me once he puts those drugs in ur iv.....within literally 2 seconds you will be out.....i dont remember one thing from the surgery! all i remember is waking up and my fiance standing over me saying %26quot;hey hunni let me take ur picture%26quot;!!!! and as for after! there will be pain and sorness! your face will blow up like a balloon and youll look like a chipmunk and you may even get some bruising on ur face! you wont be able to each much for the first 2-3 days but stuff that is super soft and easy to chew and swallow! but after about 4-5 days youll start to feel better and the swelling will slowly go down and you start to eat more! after about a week to two weeks you will be pretty much back to normal! i mean i was out a total of 4 days from work including my day of surgery! im gonna tell ya...yes it sux but it was worth it and im super glad i did it! so trust me if you need it done do it as soon as you can!!!! i hope that helped!
