Wisdom teeth?

ok so i went to the dentist yesterday and they told me my wisdom teeth were coming in, but they refered me to a oral surgeon! i was kinda a little nervous when they said this. they said that they want to have them check it out and take x-rays to make sure they are coming in ok. i think thats kinda silly being that they took x-rays at the dentist%26#039;s office when i was there (they took 4). do you think they are really only sending me to this oral surgeon cause they see they are coming in crooked up do%26#039;t want to scare me? i%26#039;m 15 and they also said that i%26#039;m kinda young to be getting them in already.

Wisdom teeth?
goood!!!
Reply:i don%26#039;t have them yet.
Reply:alot of times wisdom teeth do come in cricked mine did but all dentist refer you to an oral surgeon to get the wisdom teeth checked.
Reply:An oral surgeon will specialize in the removal of wisdom teeth. Your dentist is likely competent to do the procedure himself (or herself), but they%26#039;re referring you to someone else so you get the best possible treatment. Don%26#039;t be alarmed by the words %26#039;oral surgeon%26#039;. I%26#039;ve had dental work done by one as well.
Reply:It is standard procedure to see an oral surgeon when you start getting your wisdom teeth. Almost everyone has them removed at some point, crooked or not, because they just don%26#039;t have the space to accomodate them.
Reply:Oral surgeon probably has a Panorex X-ray that takes a whole mouth x-ray at once. Young or not, the wisdom teeth usually need to be taken out as there is not room. They have a habit of messing up the alignment of your regular teeth and also causing pain if they cannot come in correctly. Doubt if they are trying to rip you off. Sooner you get them out, the better.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out at 16, so it isn%26#039;t too early. The dentist may think they are coming in crooked. The standard procedure is for the dentist to refer you to the oral surgeon for x-rays for the oral surgeon to determine if they need to be removed or not. I was scared and it was no big deal at all.
Reply:Your wisdom teeth normally will come in between 17 and even past age 20. If they are coming in crooked they should be removed but most definitely they usually are removed to prevent crowding of your other teeth. Relax and have them taken out.

The surgeon normally will take his own set of x rays even though the others could have probably been used.
Reply:You%26#039;ll be fine. I had the same thing happen to me. They send you to the oral surgeon so he/she can make the decision of having them pulled or not. Your dentist may have no idea or be in question with it. Therefore, he/she sends you to the oral surgeon because that is what they specialize in. I had to go there and they told me they wanted to pull them. I also had one where the roots were hard to get to and very risky to do. They made me watch a video of it that scared me to death about possibly permanately make my jaw numb and all this. It all went well and was easy and painless. It was not even necessary to worry myself. Trust me! It was a peice of cake. Plus I got to stay home. The whole eating thing sucked because I couldn%26#039;t get anything in the holes in my mouth, but being able to be lazy and hang around the house for a few days was awesome and relaxing.
Reply:That is early to be having your wisdom teeth come in, but everyone is different. Nowadays, almost every dentist recommends that your wisdom teeth be taken out, no matter what. So most likely your dentist is sending you there in preparation for them to come out. You might not have them taken out for a few more years, or you may choose to never have them taken out. But I think the dentist just wanted you to start seeing the oral surgeon to be prepared.
Reply:they just might not me sure if there growing in correctly and they just want to have them checked out. theres nothing to be worried about, its no biggy. And about the early thing, Me too. My 12 year old molars started growing in when I was only niine and my wisdom teeth will probably do the same. You%26#039;ll be perfectly fne. Trust me. most people have to get their wisdom teeth pulled out any way. No biggy.
Reply:More than likely they are sending you to a surgeon because they might think that they will need to be taken out. This is very common. Many times your mouth will be too small to house these teeth so they remove them. When they start coming in they can cause pain so catching it early can prevent this. Don%26#039;t be worried this is just standard protocol. My wife had 5 wisdom teeth and they had to be removed. Your age isn%26#039;t such a big deal---some people get their wisdom teeth very late in life so it just depends on the person.
Reply:my dentist reffered me to the oral surgeon because my wisdom teeth were impacted.
