Wisdom teeth...?

My boy-friend got his wisdom teeth removed today. I was wondering if the stitches disolve, or if they have to be taken out. Anyone know? We%26#039;re still gonna call the doctor tomorrow, because we need to make a follow up app, but just so I can stop obsessing, it would be nice to know.

Thank you!

Wisdom teeth...?
Hi - sometimes doc%26#039;s use silk sutures that need to be removed unless they unravel during healing. Other times, they use gut sutures which dissolve on their own. Usually the gut (dissolving) ones are clear-ish and the silk ones are black or blue in color.

Hope that helps!
Reply:They usually dissolve themselves. The Dr. should also have told him to use a solution of anti-bacterial mouthwash and water to prevent infection, but I can%26#039;t remember if your supposed to wait a few days or not before you begin this part of the treatment.
Reply:They usually use dissolving stiches now a days, but he may have to get them taken out if it was a unusually harsh surgery (ie. impacted). The only person who knows for sure is the oral surgeon or denstist.
Reply:Its funny that you mentioned this because I just got all four of my wisdom teeth out today as well. According to my doctor the stiches they used in my mouth dissolve but I still have to go for an additional appointment. There are other complications that they look out for also.
Reply:dissolve
