Wisdom teeth...?
You usually have the choice of either general anesthesia (being completely asleep) or local anesthesia (your mouth is just numbed). When I got mine out I opted for the general. In either case you cannot feel anything while they%26#039;re doing it, but you will feel pain after the anesthesia wears off. They may prescribe you a pain medication, or they may just tell you to take Tylenol.

The advantage of general anesthesia is that you get to sleep through the whole thing. You go to sleep and then you wake up and it%26#039;s all over. The disadvantage is that sometimes it makes you feel sick for the rest of the day.

The advantage of local anesthesia is that you won%26#039;t be sick for the rest of the day. The disadvantage, obviously, is that you%26#039;re awake for the entire time even though you won%26#039;t feel pain.
Reply:i%26#039;ve never had my wisdom teeth removed but i think they put you to sleep. it%26#039;s dental surgery so they would use an IV to get you to fall asleep. they also give you pain medication to take after surgery. take good care of it afterwards b/c you can develop dry sockets %26amp; those are really painful.
Reply:It depends on what kind of pain management you choose for the procedure. I would say that most people go under general anasthesia so they are asleep for the whole procedure. If you choose this method, you most likely will have and IV. The oral surgeons and dentists who do this procedure know how to get into the back of your mouth and it is a routine surgery. Your mouth probably will not start hurting for a little while after the surgery once the local anasthesia wears off, but then your doctor probably will prescribe you some kind of painkiller like Vicodin of hydrocodone if you need it to help ease the pain.
Reply:no you don%26#039;t. I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled and i didn%26#039;t feel a thing while they were doing it. The dentist gave me Novocaine shots, then waited for a few minutes for it to take affect, then he pulled the teeth. It depends on the person . sometimes they will use general anesthesia. But they are usually very careful. If you are taking any medication, or if you are allergic to anything, let them know. that way they can do what%26#039;s best for you. you%26#039;ll be ok. good luck. :-)
Reply:Well, I just had an oral surgery. It wasn%26#039;t for wisdom teeth put they took one out anyway. You will feel a little needle when they inject the IV for anesthesia. Then you will start to feel tired. They open your mouth and cut the gum if it%26#039;s impacted and remove the tooth, if you%26#039;re lucky, they%26#039;ll just remove the tooth. You shouldn%26#039;t feel anything. It feels as though once you fall asleep, you wake up again. If you%26#039;re fully asleep, you shouldn%26#039;t feel anything. You should use general anesthesia which has less risks than regular anesthesia. Hope this helps.
