Wisdom teeth!?

okay, so i went to my dentist, and he said my wisdom teeth are growing in, sideways. not growing upward...they%26#039;re laying. so, he wants me to go to sleep when i get my operation because he says he%26#039;s going to have to dig in my gums and everything. my mom just wants me to get numbed. which is better? if i just get numbed, will it hurt??? or i dont know?!?1

Wisdom teeth!?
OMG!!!! I was just told the same thing 1 week and a day ago! I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth, but now they%26#039;re out. I had them taken out the next day. I cried for like an hour when they told me. Btw, I%26#039;m a teen. He told me it would be better to just get the IV and go to sleep. I was so scared. So I did it, and they were so sweet. I thought of David Beckham and his injuries, and how it didn%26#039;t let it get him down. (I%26#039;m a huge soccer fan) That%26#039;s the last thing I remember, and then I was awake!

You don%26#039;t feel a thing. I have a little tiny bruise where they stuck the IV, but that%26#039;s totally normal. The pain only starts when you get home. I would choose to get the IV to go to sleep. It won%26#039;t hurt. It%26#039;s like when you doze off watching tv, and then the show is gone off. But better, lol. Only the tiny prick to get the tiny needle in. Getting numbed and being awake isn%26#039;t pleasant I%26#039;ve heard. Oh and the stitches I have are dissoluble, so I didn%26#039;t have to go get them taken out. Everything is okay now, I had a check up appointment yesterday.

I wish you the best of luck!!!! I saw this question on the home page, and I just had to answer. I just had the same exact surgery. I%26#039;m kind of relieved to help someone and that I wasn%26#039;t the only one. Best of luck to you, and I%26#039;ll keep you in my thoughts.

xoxo You%26#039;ll need it, and don%26#039;t worry! Oh and I%26#039;m sorry it%26#039;s long.

Reply:if your teeth are numbed, then it usually dosen%26#039;t hut, but you can still hear and see everything going on...if thats okay with you, then its probably easier and cheaper to be numbed....however the numbing will keep your mouth feling weird for a while
Reply:Well heres benefits of the two...

Numb only: You know what%26#039;s going on... if something goes wrong, you can tell the doctor... if you like dentistry then its fun...

Sleeping gas: Its over in a second... don%26#039;t feel a thing (well, during the operations at least :D)... usualy the choice for most people when undergoing operations like this...

The cons...

Numb only: You can feel the drills and tools clinking in your head... you are awake for the whole thing... neverousness could cause problems...

Sleep: You can%26#039;t tell the doctor if you think something is wrong (though they usualy are good about that)... when you wake up, the pain tends to hit you pretty heavy... might cost more...

so there ya go! Personally, with that kind of dental work, Id take the sleping gas. Good luck!
Reply:Hi,

Since your wisdom teeth are angularly impacted (growing sideways) they need to be surgically drilled out. If your not ready this can be a stressful situation. When you are numbed you won%26#039;t feel pain.

If I were you I%26#039;d choose to be asleep through the entire thing and wake up w/o wisdom teeth.
Reply:The dentist wants to use anesthesia because your wisdom teeth are impacted and removing them is a form of surgery. Sedation cost about $300 to $400 more than just numbing your mouth which is probably why your mom wants just to numb you. I am having mine out after x-mas and I will gladly spend the extra $ to be knocked out.
Reply:I Just got mine out on Wednesday, get put to sleep!!!! Especially if they have to dig in your gums...gross who wants to be awake for that!!? Just get put out, it will be OVER before you know it, trust me!!!! I am such a chicken, and I got put to sleep then the next thing I knew I was in recovery. Its the only way to go!
