Wisdom teeth?

i have to get my wisdom teeth pulled and believe it or not...i%26#039;m nervous. what should i expect? also, what are some ways to alleviate pain other than the pain killers? (lol)

Wisdom teeth?
well for me getting my wisdom teeth out were no where near as bad as I imagined, I got all 4 out at once! I didn%26#039;t take the pain killers because they cause me to have insomnia, but I didn%26#039;t really need them anyways! The only thing that bothered me was having super bad breath because you can%26#039;t brush your teeth! Make sure you do everything the dentist tells you because I hear the dry sockets are extremely painful!
Reply:they will start an IV and put you under heavy sedation. the next thing you know, you will wake up and it will be over with. the aftercare is what can get you in trouble. 1st of all when they say NO SUCKING that%26#039;s what they mean whether sucking a cigarrette, a straw, or engaging in oral sex. a good way to help with pain and swelling is to rest your face against a covered bag of frozen peas or corn. (the small kernals conform well to your face. switch sides every 15 minutes. do not leave the cold packs on your skin for more than 15 minutes at a time without a 15 minute break in between. this could cause nerve damage, or prevent needed blood flow for proper healing. initially, keep yourself medicated with the pain pills they prescribe you. it will be easier to keep the pain controlled, if you just keep it at bay and don%26#039;t allow it to get out of hand. if your sensitive to narcotics, try taking 1 pain pill or a half of one instead of two. suggest to your doc that he give you VICOPROFEN. it is a hydrocodone/ibuprofen combination, and the ibuprofen is excellent for swelling. once you return to work, just take ibuprofen. avoid aspirin or aspirin containing products. while they are superior for oral pain, they are not reccomended prior to after a surgical procedure cause it will increase bleeding.
Reply:Great question. Don%26#039;t worry at all, first and foremost.

Is has some cool stuff about your first time (getting your teeth pulled, that is). And they have a link to smoothie recipes.

Secondly, if you%26#039;re going under, you won%26#039;t feel a thing. I just did Advil and I was fine. No swelling at all, no pain, really.
