how does the whole process of getting your wisdom teeth taken out go? how long do your gums hurt after you get them removed? does your face swell, if so, for how long? how long is your face bruised and how long does it take for them to start healing? do they put you to sleep or just numb you a lot? im getting mine taken out soon and im kind of worried about it. thanks.
Wisdom teeth?
1. Allow a couple days to heal up....A week max for all my swelling to go down.
2. Gums were tender to touch and while eating about that long too.
3. Only one side of my face swelled up..I had some swelling underneath the bone or something, I had to go on antibiotics but it wasnt that bad, I just had a lump above my jaw and some tenderness underneath....not dry socket..which is an infection and much worse
4. You could be feeling better in just a couple days.
5. They don%26#039;t put you to sleep, just numb the area /extraction site. You take a medication the night before and the day of too, to make you sleepy and take away pain.
6. You should not drive while under medication, or eat a heavy meal the day of your surgery
Reply:I just had two of mine cut out (taken out)... I am 38, was put to sleep for about 45- minutes... with iv sedation. No pain, and I was eating supper that night.. and no pain with my wisdom teeth being removed. Dr was awesome!! No down time, your face does not swell.
Reply:If you are having them all removed at the same time they will likely put you under.
Face both swells and bruises. Swelling you are likely looking at 1 to 2 days. Bruising a week maybe.
For the gums to fully heal probably 1 month, maybe more.
Reply:It depends on your mouth structure and your dentist%26#039;s skill. They usually give local anaesthesia. From http://aches.in/wisdomteeth.html
Reply:They put you under usually not too much when I had mine taken out I woke up once, your gums hurt for about two weeks afterward and you have to eat soft food your cheeks do swell a bit but not much, they start healing immediately they put stitches of protein so they dissolve when your wounds are healed up they usually crush your teeth and take them out in pieces
Reply:Everyone reacts differently to this process. I had each side done at separate times. The one swelled up for a few days and hurt real bad. The other side hurt, but it was tolerable with motrin. I have never been put under anesthesia for any tooth extractions, and I have had a lot of my teeth removed(bad genetics). You might experience some swelling, probably pain for a couple days, the gums might also be sore. Not everyone bruises from it, I have never bruised. It usually takes a week or two to heal up. Good luck to ya.
Reply:i had mine out a few years ago - all the worry about the surgey was over nothing - i felt so much better - they were all impacted and hurt like heck -
anyway - they put you out for the surgery - i was sore for a few days - some swelling, and a really tiny bruise on one side - everyone heals different -
follow what they tell you to do - stock up on foods like pudding and jello, ice cream - avoid things that are hot like soup for a few days - and don%26#039;t suck anything up in a straw - both of these will bug the stitches.
take some tylenol - sack out on the couch or in bed and relax for a few days - get some rest - don%26#039;t worry so much -
hope all goes well -
Reply:i had all four of mine pulled at once, it wasnt as bad as i thought as a matter of fact i didnt feel a thing they numb you, my dentist wouldnt put me to sleep i dont think they do that anymore unless its major. the healing is a couple of days the worst part is after cause you cant eat anything the next day and your mouth is full of saliva and the tell you dont spit because somehow the spit help clothes the holes and preven infection, please dont spit my friend did and she had to go to the emergency room cause her face was so numb and she had gotten an ear infection. so basically a lot of swelling no bruises for me, but its not nearly as bad as you think. at least for me it wasnt. and the procedure is really fast!!
Reply:I had removed 2 wisdom teeth. The whole process depends on whether your wisdom teeth are impacted or not. One of my wisdom teeth was impacted (removing takes longer time in this case). Doctor doesnt put u to sleep, he uses local anesthetic, but it is your choice of the anesthesia that will be used, because i wanted to be put to sleep but then i changed my mind, of course i told them about it couple of days b4 (because it cost more). The healing process varies as well, it heals longer if you had impacted tooth. The stiches need to dissolve too, but you can use pain pills. Your face is swollen for 2 days or so, it isnt that much visible though, no problem. Numbing looks that doctor gives u many little injections around the teeth that are about to be removed, maybe 5 injections for each tooth (more injections for impacted one, because he needs to dig into the bone to get the crap out of there). You dont have to worry about anything because you feel nothing. I still think that i did very good removing those teeth, because in my case the impacted one was a bit infected (that was my idea, because my breath was bad, so it was my choice to remove it, but the other one was with huge cavity, needed canal treatment)
Reply:Well it all depends on the person having it done and the dentist.
You have a choice of being asleep or awake and just numb.
I have been swollen for 5 days now and still alittle brusied.
ALthough the pain for me began to decress after day 3 but still hurts some.
You will be fine, I was so upset about having mine out, I changed my appt twice before my hubby draged me into the office. you will be okay!
You will have a bad week then back to normal
Reply:hey i had all mine taken out a month ago it doesnt hurt at all your face swells for about a week it heals very fast you just kinda bleed alot. I was put to sleep for 30min. Dont worry about it you will be fine trust me!
Reply:My personal opinion is to have two---not all four---done at a time. Depending on your pain threshold, once the anesthetic wears off, you%26#039;ll be in pain, especially if you have all four done at the same time, or if any of your wisdom teeth are impacted. But the dentist will give you pain meds for this. Its been so many years since I had mine removed, but I don%26#039;t believe my face swelled,;definitely not bruised. I wasn%26#039;t asleep when mine were pulled. You%26#039;ll be fine!

Wisdom teeth?
Does wisdom teeth give any pain when it needs to be removed , because i have sore throat with red spots back of throat and i have to go like this alot hhhhhh, hhhhhhh, hhhhhhhh
Wisdom teeth?
More likely strep throat then wisdom teeth issues.
Reply:This sounds like an infection of the throat. Wisdom teeth ache around the jaw line and sometimes on the outside of the jaw, on the face. The pain comes and goes for some time before a dentist or oral surgeon will remove them, and then SURPRISE, they still ache even though absent.
Reply:THIS IS MOST DEFINATELY NOT A WISDOM TOOTH THAT WOULD MAKE YOUR THROAT SWELL AND HAVE BUMPS YOU HAVE AN INFECTION AND NEED TO GET TO A DOCTOR SO THEY CAN PRESCRIBE YOU AN ANTIBIOTIC
Reply:def strep throat.

Wisdom teeth?
reccently i had all four of my wisdom teeth removed... i have had no pain at all and i have very very little swelling (only my gf could tell)... it is the 6th day and everything seemed as though it was going great (considering i had cheese coneys the first night and ate chips the second day)... but recently i looked in my mout at the stitches... all of the stitches were closed and were healing nicely execpt one... i have a gaping hole and i think that the stitching broke... has this ever happened to anybody and if so what do they dot o fix it...
please dont give a %26quot;go see a doctor answer%26quot; because i have an appointment on friday... i just want some other information
Wisdom teeth?
It could be a problem if there%26#039;s food caught in it. I%26#039;m glad you%26#039;re going to see the doc on Friday, so he or she can check it out for you.
Reply:There%26#039;s gonna be a hole there until it fills in with flesh. When I had mine out, the periodontist (or whatever) gave me this little syringy thing to squirt water in the hole to flush out the food particles and whatnot. I woundn%26#039;t worry about the hole but I would want the squirty thing. Ask your dentist for one.
Reply:Well you really should call the doctor%26#039;s office in the meantime. I had mine taken out a few moths ago, and all went well, the only suggestions I can make is to continue taking your antibiotics, and the doctor may give you this stuff to pack down the hole, I%26#039;m not sure what it%26#039;s called, but I will call my mom, and find out, then repost.
Reply:It sounds like broken stitches may be the case. As long as it isn%26#039;t giving you any discomfort, I would recommend that you just keep it clean and rinse the area often with warm salt-water (1 TBS salt to 1 C water) 4-5 times a day.
Reply:When i had my wisdom teeth removed I had no stitches because they were already fully in and there was no need to cut or go really deep into the gums. Are you sure that you had stitches for all of your teeth?
Is the open hole sore or more swollen then the others? If it is you need to see the doc today not friday...trust me you don%26#039;t want an infection to set in.
Reply:when i had all of my wisdom teeth removed all my stitches fell out the nest day...it will close up on its own!
Reply:when ever a tooth is pulled (especially one with long roots) you need to be very careful of dry socket. Make sure that there is a clot of blood in the opening to prevent this. I don%26#039;t think that the stitch being gone is of much concern especially when you are to see your dentist soon. Good luck
Reply:I used guaze(just ball it up and put it back there, change it every 4 hours) to help it keep from bleeding and to help it clot correctly
Reply:Stitches will pull when the gum starts to heal. Sometimes they will break. As long as you are not having any pain, swelling or tenderness in the stitch area, you should be just fine.
I recently had dental surgery that required stitches. My gum healed quickly and so tightly, that the stitch broke and I pulled it out myself. I just kept the area clean with brushing and rinsing before seeing my dentist for the follow-up. Everything worked out just fine.
Reply:I would just keep a close eye on it. Make sure it stay clean and i would avoid using a straw. One thing you absolutely don%26#039;t want is dry socket. Just keep it clean and show the dentist. They%26#039;re the ones who would know what to do.
Reply:If you are keeping it clean, you will probably be okay. It was probably the stuff you ate that caused the breakage...that is why they tell you to go easy for a while!
Glad you had no pain!
Reply:Mine looked like gapping holes forever after I got them done and the stitches were taken out. It was gross. I think you should be ok. just keep it clean and be very careful what you eat till you see your doctor. If it is expossed then you run a chance of Dry socket, and that (from which my husband tells me) is the most painfull thing that could happen.
So lay off the chips and crap untill you can get into the doctor.
Reply:You are doing all you can do until your appointment. Your doctor should have informed you to eat only soft foods and avoid using a straw in the first several days after your surgery. YOu probably broke your stitches by not following those guidelines. You make have to have an antibiotic to help keep down any infection and have new stitches.
Reply:I had dry socket, and it hurts like hell. That doesn%26#039;t sound like dry socket to me.
You%26#039;re really doing all you can do right now by rinsing your mouth with salt water and keeping it clean. The dr. can tell you more on Friday.
I had all four of mine taken out at once also. Only had one case of dry socket thankfully.
Reply:Did the dentist offer you post operative instructions? Cheese coneys and chips are not recommendid because they could have dislodged the blood clots from the surgical sites.

Wisdom Teeth!?
How soon can u eat solid food after u have had ur wisdom teeth removed?
I had my operation Wednesday and I%26#039;ve heard so many opinions that i%26#039;m not so sure what to think.
thnx
Wisdom Teeth!?
Ask your doctor. You should have another checkup soon. Ask then or call today.
Reply:I had my done and was eating solid foods that same day. Just dont eat chips and things like that, it hurts. It all depends on your body and the amout of pain you are in. I would recrommend taking your pain pills 30 minutes before eating, this takes some of the pain of eating away. But whenever you are ready...eat away!
Reply:ask your own doctor is the best answer one can get.
Reply:Considering that everyones situations are so different, you should just call the oral surgeon you went to and ask. They should have just told you anyway.
Reply:your dentist should have told you on the instruction sheet...
You are not supposed to eat solid foods till the day after, and only if you feel better as well and are not still bleeding or anything like that. You seriously need to feel better and you will know when you are :) but yes too soon can lead to dry sockets and that is not even funny hurts worse than the wisdom tooth itself.
Reply:They usually say just a couple of days. But you can just do it when you feel comfortable. Start out with mashed potato%26#039;s, mac n cheese, soup etc.
Reply:I was eating solids (carefully) within about a day after the operation. I had all 4 done at once. However, it greatly varies from person to person, and some people have to return and have it redone because of what you call %26quot;dry-sockets%26quot; meaning the skin is not healing correctly. I%26#039;m not trying to scare you, but just be careful eating and obvioulsy don%26#039;t drink from a straw. Before you know it you%26#039;ll be fine. After about 3-4 days you%26#039;ll notice that healing improves very fast everyday.
Also, oddly enough, I was almost all healed after about 10 days and then I noticed I was getting some pretty bad bruising around my jaw line. It went away after a day or so though, but weird how it came so late after the operation.
Hope this helps!
Reply:Call your dentist.
They are the one%26#039;s who worked on your mouth and know what needed to be done to extract them.
Sometimes, wisdom teeth are very impacted, so if removed, it may take an extra day or two before they would recommend solid foods.
If the wisdom teeth had already surfaced, and were easy to extract, you would probably be able to eat solid foods sooner.
So, give the dentist a call. They%26#039;ll know the answer for your particular situation.
Reply:You are to avoid certain foods that can go into the new opened area and infect it. They should have told you after surgery or before what foods to and not to eat. Eat foods that are soft and will not go into the area. Dont overdo it either.
I had mine removed and got dry socket. (The whole is there and they have to pack gauze in it for days until it then closes!! OUCH) I hated it! Every time I ate it felt as if the gauze was coming out and it hurt.
Your mouth isnt something to mess with. Infection, etc. Call the dr. if your not sure and just ask to make sure.
Everyone different so your going to get a lot of different responses and it may not necessarily pertain to you.
Reply:Ask your doctor, he or she can give you the best answer. Though when you can eat solid food, stay away from popcorn for awhile.... bad things happen if you don%26#039;t.

Wisdom teeth?
Since i have no dental insurance i cannot afford to have my wisdom teeth cut out. Can anyone please tell me how to make the pain go away besides oral gel. I feel like a baby i have to chew on somethign constantly and it makes my jaw hurt
Wisdom teeth?
You should definately find a way to get them extracted. Most places understand how expensive these procedures are and offer affordable payment plans. Now here is the thing, usually insurance doesn%26#039;t really cover much of this type of procedure anyway, some don%26#039;t at all (not sure why). This procedure, depending on location, is usually anywhere from $1600 to $2500. Also a word of advice, if you have wisdom teeth that have already went through the gums, you can usually get your dentist to remove them; this is a lot cheaper than the maxillofacial specialist (ones who extract wisdom teeth). You could also get them out one by one, getting the one causing you problems first and this could also make it more affordable since you wouldn%26#039;t owe so much money at one time.
Really the only way to rid of the pain is to get them removed. You can take ibuprofen for the inflammation but it is only temporary. Some have no problem keeping their wisdom teeth after they%26#039;ve come in (usually those with bigger jaws), but most must get them extracted not only for lack of room (which causes pressure on the jaws and other teeth) but also for impaction (wisdom teeth are facing other teeth or are slanted abnormally).
Reply:the only thing i can tell you is save up your money and take advil. if they hurt that bad you really need to get them out. some places have payment plans. you should check into it, that way you can just make small payments on your bill.
Reply:Go talk with a dentist and see if you can be put on a payment plan.

I feel for you. Been there. Impacted wisdom tooth, dry socket afterward, ouch! When I was waiting for a follow up visit to do something about the dry socket, I discovered that 2 Benadryl plus 2 Extra Strength Tylenol relieve pain pretty nicely as over the counter medicines go. The same ingredients are in Tylenol PM.
Reply:Ibuprofen will help with the swelling. I had mine removed and I still remember the pain they caused before they were removed.
Reply:Sorry, you don%26#039;t really have a choice in this matter. the human jaw is not designed to hold your wisdom teeth, your ancestors...cavemen had larger jaws...it%26#039;s just evolution. As your teeth make their appearance they sometimes come in straight, most of the time they do not. If you do not get them removed they could become impacted and if they get infected in the process you could have a larger problem...the infection is serious because of the close proximity to your brain. check with your dentist on a payment plan or family members to help out financially. In the future do not accept a job without medical and dental coverage even McDonald%26#039;s covers their employees. Good-luck! and I%26#039;m sorry for the pain that you are in.

In the future do not accept a job without medical and dental coverage even McDonald%26#039;s covers their employees. Good-luck! and I%26#039;m sorry for the pain that you are in.

Reply:you can try the health department. they might know of a place that has a sliding fee. i go to a dental clinic and they charge by your income. they dont do oral surgeries or anything but they fill cavities and do extractions and cleanings and things like that. for me it%26#039;s only 30 bucks. there might be something like that where you live, make a few calls.

After you have your wisdom teeth extracted, how long does it take for the holes left over to fully heal over?
Wisdom teeth?
i had my wisdom teeth removed a few months ago and the holes will heal quite quickly, i would say about 4 days. BUT if you touch them or get them infected, it will take longer. and when u touch the place u extracted ur teeth, it will feel soft..like u can stick your finger in. that take about 4, 5 months to heal because your gums need to grow into that space
Reply:I had mine pulled out a month ago, and the hole was healed after three weeks.

i am getting in 3 of my wisdom teeth i know that everyone always gets those pulled idont want to unless if i have to but is it best to and why would i or anyone need to do that

I think if the wisdom teeth come in straight and are not causing any problems, then you shouldn%26#039;t worry about getting them pulled. i think the only reason you should even bother getting them pulled is if they cause you a lot of pain, are rotted, or are coming in crookedly/wrong.
I had a wisdom tooth come in over the summer, and I have just left it alone because it doesn%26#039;t bother me. It hurt when it first started coming in, but now it is fine.
If your dentist hasn%26#039;t said that you need them pulled, then I wouldn%26#039;t worry about it.
Reply:wisdom teeth may be a source of infection, especially if they are impacted. they also may cause crowding of your teeth, or they may erupt in a wrong direction, leading to injuries in your mouth eg.tongue and cheeks...

Then, one day, like someone turning on a lightswitch they began to HURT. And I had them removed.
The surgery was okay, not overly painful, I was eating Doritos the next day.
Reply:I was PETRIFIED of getting mine out. I got ALL FOUR out at the same time.
In hindsight, I%26#039;m glad I did what I did. I was in a LOT of pain, and I knew I should get them all out at once and get it over with.
Frankly, the percocet kept me nice and painfree for a week while I recovered, so the recovery went fast.
It%26#039;s best to get them pulled if they start to hurt. Mine were hurting, and I let them be since I was scared, and the top teeth broke through my gums! The bottom teeth had to be broken while still in my jaw, but I was completely OUT during the procedure so I felt NOTHING.
I would have gotten them out SOONER looking back on it.
If you feel pain, even just a little, get it taken care of!!! You don%26#039;t feel anything during the procedure and you get nice drugs to make you feel good during recovery!
Reply:Well they wouldnt pull them unless they had to. Obv there is not enuff room in your mouth for them if they had suggested you get them pulled. Trsut me get them out if they tell u too. They can cause moving of all your other permanent teeth if u leave them in because they will try to squeeze their way in your mouth and just cause other problems

Reply:I just went thru this last week.
Mine came thru about a year ago, and I didnt do anything about it...well then they started shifting my other teeth and then themselves breaking, and i HAD to get them out, I was in SO much pain!!!!!!! I would get them taken out by an oral surgeon, I couldnt stand being awake, so I got put to sleep, and it was over before I knew it! So i suggest you get them out before they cause you more probs!
Reply:If you get them pulled now, you will have nothing to worry about later. Trust me it is so much easier to clean back there and floss than it is when you have teeth back there. I suggest pulling them as soon as you can.

How bad is the pain after you get your wisdom teeth removed?
I%26#039;m getting mine out Friday and I just want to be prepared.
Wisdom teeth?
You will be tender and sore, but the surgeon should give you a prescription for pain medicine.
When I had my wisdom teeth out, the pain before they were removed was worse than the pain afterwards.
Reply:dont be alarm but it hurts for a couple of days... dont worry just show up brave..

Reply:When I had mine out, there was nearly no swelling so that helped a lot. But there was a fair amount of pain. If you know how you react to pain medication, informing the dentist before hand can be helpful both during and after the procedure. Don%26#039;t get psyched out, just go have buiness taken care of and plan to take the next day or two pretty lightly...and buy ice cream.
Reply:To be honest, I had almost no pain after I had my wisdom teeth removed. Might have had something to do with being doped up on a heavy dose of oxycodone for the first couple of days following surgery. =) Every person is different, though - I know a woman who had hers out the day before Thanksgiving, and ate Thanksgiving dinner the next night. I know another girl who had hers taken out and couldn%26#039;t eat solid food for two weeks. It just depends on how quickly you heal and how badly impacted your teeth were. Don%26#039;t sweat it though; if you do everything the doctor tells you to, you will be fine. Good luck!

What are good things to eat and drink after you get your wisdom teeth out?
Wisdom Teeth?
jello applesauce, soup, my doct when i had mine out told me not to eat ice cream because it causes flem and its not good for ur mouth then
dont suck anything or use a straw and make sure u keep ur mouth clean with the little water shooter thing they give you, because if food gets back there it can get really ugly an you get infection
but soft easy to swallow foods
Reply:DQ....Early and often!!!
Reply:Ice cream, soup, just don%26#039;t drink anything through a straw it%26#039;ll take the stitches out ouch. Basically nothing crunchy because I had chips too soon and it got stuck and was gross. Soft and smooth are the best!
Reply:Ive had all 4 taken out. So chicken noodle soup, jello, ice cream, lots of soups. Just stick to the soft stuff, you will be in a world of hurt if you eat chips and get them stuck back there in the opening or sutures. Warm stuff seemes to feel better than cold stuff too.
Reply:shakes!!!
Reply:Ice cream! But mainly soft, mushy things. You don%26#039;t wanna hurt your teeth.

My doctor said to wait five days before smoking after i got my wisdom teeth out, am i garanteed to not get dry socket after five days?
Wisdom teeth?
Quit Smoking.......!
Reply:i would wait longer..(just in case)....
thats me...i always take the safe option
Reply:Listen to your Doctor. Maybe in that time you can quit. Enjoy not smelling like cigarettes. Give us all our Christmaswish come true and STOP. By the way, your dentist went to school for a very long time...that%26#039;s why he gets paid so much. Listen to professional advice when it comes your way. When he said you needed them removed... did you second guess him?
Reply:You really DO NOT want to get a dry socket!! I had one when I got my wisdom teeth out (I don%26#039;t smoke, so it wasn%26#039;t from that). That is one of the most painful things--and I went through natural childbirth. I would wait at least the 5 days your dentist recommends.
Reply:Sorry to say this, but this is how I am. I wouldn%26#039;t wait like that.
I never have when I had a tooth pulled or anything.===
Reply:I would wait until your sutures are out.
Only because when you take a drag of your ciggarette, it will put pressure on your gums and that is bad and could cause the dry socket. You cannot drink through a straw either for the same reason.
Do not eat for the first 2 days either. Drink only sips at a time and warm liquid. Not hot or cold. Change your gauze often and for at least 2-21/2 days after getting them out.
If you are not bleeding, then wet them with warm water slightly before putting the gauze in.
Do not go out into the cold unless your mouth is covered.
All of this should help to not get dry sockets.

anyone who has had their wisdom teeth extracted....what are some common signs that it%26#039;s time to get them pulled out.....i%26#039;m age 18, and i%26#039;ve recently been having some slight pain and fever towards my jaw.....should i get it checked?
Wisdom teeth?
If you are not going to be 7 to 8 feet tall I would do away with them. My lowers were not pulled and one is chipping out. My jaw is not properly aligned either so don%26#039;t wait for trouble. Ask your dentist first anyway.
Reply:Yes, I had one that didn%26#039;t surface because it was what they called bony impacted. I ended up getting it cut out. It had gathered an infection beneath the surface. I had a swollen jaw and fever. They treated me with antibiotics first and the next week, they cut them all out to prevent the others from doing the same. Just go ahead and let them get rid of them, you%26#039;ll be glad you did.
Reply:You%26#039;re a little young to have wisdom teeth. But, yes get it checked.
Reply:Yeah. I got mine pulled when I was 16. The average age to get them pulled (so my dentist says) is 18.
Good luck! :)
Reply:YES GET IT CHECK AND THEM IF THE DENTIST TELL YOU IS NOTHING YOU DON%26#039;T HAVE TO WARRED
Reply:Go to the dentist to get a panoramic radiograph. It is an x-ray of the lower part of your face and it is the best diagnostic tool for wisdom teeth. Most dental offices have a panoramic x-ray machine. Your dentist will inform you.
My wisdom teeth were impacted. I had them removed surgically at an oral surgeon%26#039;s office. It was pain free with no complications.
Reply:Definitely get them checked. The problems with those teeth is they are impossible to clean and develop bad cavities that can collapse the tooth and/or become infected. When they grow out they might grow too long and push against the jaw. I had a combination of both.
They hurt to get pulled. More after the event than during and now there is a space in my mouth that I have to check to see if stuff gets caught, or I might end up with roting food in my mouth after a few days.
In general it is worth getting them out. Asleep if you can afford it, but awake like I had, isn%26#039;t that bad. There isn%26#039;t too much pain either way during the operation. You can%26#039;t feel anything in your jaw for hours afterwards from the awake procedure. It is after the initial medication wears off that gets people.
Reply:Absolutely yes. Have your dentist checked it right away. You already have the signs.
Reply:u should get it checked out B4 it gets worse
Reply:Yes have them checked. 9/10 people need to have them out. 18 is the ideal time to have them out. Fever is not good, means you have an infection in the area. Don%26#039;t let it get worse.
Reply:It is recommended to have wisdom teeth removed by age 25 at the latest. Wisdom teeth can cause problems with dental crowding, occlusion (bite), gum disease, and even disfiguring cysts in the jaws.
You should your general dentist for an exam and a referral to an oral surgeon to get the teeth removed.

Wisdom Teeth....?
I need to have my upper wisdom teeth removed.
How much will this cost me?
Wisdom Teeth....?
Prices will vary from dentist to dentist, so even those like myself whom have gone through it cannot give you an accurate quote. Only you can get that from your dentist.
A few variables will go into pricing too. It depends on what kind of anesthetic is used (novocaine, gas, ect) and what kind of extraction it is. (surgical, ect). You%26#039;ll probably need a preliminary appointment for the dental staff to properly assess what factors are best for your teeth, then he may give you an accurate quote on his charges.
Reply:need few hundred dollors( i %26#039;d say between $300 to $1500), depends on which dentist you go to and if you have insurance. so shop around. ask friends who did this.
Reply:In today%26#039;s market a general extraction will cost around $150. But for wisdom teeth it can be a more surgical situation...depending on your own mouth. Add to that the X-rays and office visit and you are probably looking at roughly $500 to $800 without insurance. It could be lower if there are no complications. But you should expect at least $500. Call a couple of dentists in the area and get some price quotes.

Wisdom teeth!?
okay, so i went to my dentist, and he said my wisdom teeth are growing in, sideways. not growing upward...they%26#039;re laying. so, he wants me to go to sleep when i get my operation because he says he%26#039;s going to have to dig in my gums and everything. my mom just wants me to get numbed. which is better? if i just get numbed, will it hurt??? or i dont know?!?1
Wisdom teeth!?
OMG!!!! I was just told the same thing 1 week and a day ago! I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth, but now they%26#039;re out. I had them taken out the next day. I cried for like an hour when they told me. Btw, I%26#039;m a teen. He told me it would be better to just get the IV and go to sleep. I was so scared. So I did it, and they were so sweet. I thought of David Beckham and his injuries, and how it didn%26#039;t let it get him down. (I%26#039;m a huge soccer fan) That%26#039;s the last thing I remember, and then I was awake!
You don%26#039;t feel a thing. I have a little tiny bruise where they stuck the IV, but that%26#039;s totally normal. The pain only starts when you get home. I would choose to get the IV to go to sleep. It won%26#039;t hurt. It%26#039;s like when you doze off watching tv, and then the show is gone off. But better, lol. Only the tiny prick to get the tiny needle in. Getting numbed and being awake isn%26#039;t pleasant I%26#039;ve heard. Oh and the stitches I have are dissoluble, so I didn%26#039;t have to go get them taken out. Everything is okay now, I had a check up appointment yesterday.
I wish you the best of luck!!!! I saw this question on the home page, and I just had to answer. I just had the same exact surgery. I%26#039;m kind of relieved to help someone and that I wasn%26#039;t the only one. Best of luck to you, and I%26#039;ll keep you in my thoughts.
xoxo You%26#039;ll need it, and don%26#039;t worry! Oh and I%26#039;m sorry it%26#039;s long.

Reply:if your teeth are numbed, then it usually dosen%26#039;t hut, but you can still hear and see everything going on...if thats okay with you, then its probably easier and cheaper to be numbed....however the numbing will keep your mouth feling weird for a while
Reply:Well heres benefits of the two...
Numb only: You know what%26#039;s going on... if something goes wrong, you can tell the doctor... if you like dentistry then its fun...
Sleeping gas: Its over in a second... don%26#039;t feel a thing (well, during the operations at least :D)... usualy the choice for most people when undergoing operations like this...
The cons...
Numb only: You can feel the drills and tools clinking in your head... you are awake for the whole thing... neverousness could cause problems...
Sleep: You can%26#039;t tell the doctor if you think something is wrong (though they usualy are good about that)... when you wake up, the pain tends to hit you pretty heavy... might cost more...
so there ya go! Personally, with that kind of dental work, Id take the sleping gas. Good luck!

Since your wisdom teeth are angularly impacted (growing sideways) they need to be surgically drilled out. If your not ready this can be a stressful situation. When you are numbed you won%26#039;t feel pain.
If I were you I%26#039;d choose to be asleep through the entire thing and wake up w/o wisdom teeth.
Reply:The dentist wants to use anesthesia because your wisdom teeth are impacted and removing them is a form of surgery. Sedation cost about $300 to $400 more than just numbing your mouth which is probably why your mom wants just to numb you. I am having mine out after x-mas and I will gladly spend the extra $ to be knocked out.
Reply:I Just got mine out on Wednesday, get put to sleep!!!! Especially if they have to dig in your gums...gross who wants to be awake for that!!? Just get put out, it will be OVER before you know it, trust me!!!! I am such a chicken, and I got put to sleep then the next thing I knew I was in recovery. Its the only way to go!

Good luck!

Wisdom teeth...?
My boy-friend got his wisdom teeth removed today. I was wondering if the stitches disolve, or if they have to be taken out. Anyone know? We%26#039;re still gonna call the doctor tomorrow, because we need to make a follow up app, but just so I can stop obsessing, it would be nice to know.
Thank you!
Wisdom teeth...?
Hi - sometimes doc%26#039;s use silk sutures that need to be removed unless they unravel during healing. Other times, they use gut sutures which dissolve on their own. Usually the gut (dissolving) ones are clear-ish and the silk ones are black or blue in color.
Hope that helps!
Reply:They usually dissolve themselves. The Dr. should also have told him to use a solution of anti-bacterial mouthwash and water to prevent infection, but I can%26#039;t remember if your supposed to wait a few days or not before you begin this part of the treatment.
Reply:They usually use dissolving stiches now a days, but he may have to get them taken out if it was a unusually harsh surgery (ie. impacted). The only person who knows for sure is the oral surgeon or denstist.
Reply:Its funny that you mentioned this because I just got all four of my wisdom teeth out today as well. According to my doctor the stiches they used in my mouth dissolve but I still have to go for an additional appointment. There are other complications that they look out for also.

I had my wisdom teeth extracted yesterday, There was minimal pain and bleeding then but now I taste fresh blood in my mouth. Would it be a good idea to put more guaze on, or would that agitate the blood clot? Thank you!
Wisdom Teeth?
An old remedy that works well. Take a tea BAG and soak it for a few minutes in cold water. Put it in your mouth where the teeth where extracted and bite down gently. The tannin acid in the tea helps to stop the bleeding. Also, what you may be tasting is just ooze. The sites will ooze a bad tasting stuff for several days after wards. Any swelling, fever, or INCREASE in pain, call your dentist.
Reply:I can%26#039;t remember when I had mine removed it was so long ago and I was also put down, so I wouldn%26#039;t feel it.
Reply:I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted at once and honestly I don%26#039;t remember bleeding the next day. You may be developing a dry socket (where the blood clot dissolves). This causes severe pain and can lead to serious infections in the jaw bone. I developed 2 of them because I am a heavy smoker and couldnt stay away from the smokes =) (smoking causes the blood clots in your gums to dissolve). As far as packing more gauze in the wound, that%26#039;s what my dentist did after irrigating the site with the nastiest stuff I have ever tasted. I WOULD NOT pack the gauze in myself as who knows what you may end up doing wrong.
Reply:Use more guaze. They hurt when I had problems with mine. I feel for you. I know they hurt.
Reply:You should change the guaze or see your dentist if the bleeding doesn%26#039;t stop.
Reply:If bleeding is excessive go back to your dentist otherwise place a clean piece of gauze folded in half over the extration area and bite down for 1hour then slowly remove
Reply:You might have, inadvertantly, done some wrong or exerted the chewing pressure at that area. It would be worth your wisdom while to see the dentist without much delay for advice.

Good luck!
Reply:In pain and it is bad for me i had to take the pain killers and hoped i could eat eat only what you can do not eat crunchy food

Reply:talk to your doctor
Reply:It could become impacted, making the problem more expensive and more difficult to solve. Please see if you can find a way to get it removed.

Reply:Well, most dentists advise you get them removed, even if they%26#039;re just fine because due to the fact that they%26#039;re so far back in your mouth, it makes it harder to clean them properly. Wisdom teeth tend to crack and rot very easily. And yeah, like %26quot;sarah r%26quot; said, you probably just need to go to the dentist.
Reply:If you wisdom teeth have erupted chances are you are having a hard time keeping them clean. If they are still impacted %26amp; not bothering you a simple panoramic x-ray ( one that goes around your head) from the dentist will let you see where they are %26amp; how close they are to erupting. If you are young it is best to take them out now even if they are not bothering you. However, if you are older %26amp; they are not bothering you it is probably best to leave them alone unless a dentist tells you otherwise.
Reply:Chances are your dentist will recommend you have them out even if you aren%26#039;t having problems with them. If you were having a problem with them (like they were coming in wrong) you would know it! My mom and my dentist both told me that when they begin growing in wrong you seriously just want someone to go in and pull them out. Chances are the dentist will tell you to have them out for a few reasons:
1.) The longer you wait to have them pulled, the more it%26#039;ll hurt
2.) Wisdom teeth are extremely hard to keep clean
3.) They rot and break extremely easily causing more unnecessary pain.
Hope this helps. Just see your dentist and s/he%26#039;ll let you know for sure. Good Luck! :-)

I got all 4 wisdom teeth taken out today. I have pudding, ice cream, yogart, and whatever else any kid would want. What else can I eat.. the pudding and ice cream isnt working, not to mention this baby food is pretty gross. Someone please give me some ideas of what I can eat..I%26#039;m beggin you!

Reply:I got mine out last Friday and I still can%26#039;t eat normal foods. I have been living on baby food, mashed potatoes, yogurt, jello, smoothies, milk shakes, ice cream, and potted meat (it is soft). It really sucks. I cannot wait to be able to eat normally again. It seems like it will never happen though. :-(
Reply:I mixed in shredded chicken with some mashed potatoes. The key thing is to make sure you have something soft. You can also try a CAN of raviolis or throw in some soup like cream of mushroom, chicken noodle or tomato soup. Eat what you want to eat but make sure it is soft or don%26#039;t require too much chewing. Having too much pudding and ice cream is not too good for you either. If you want some snacks I would suggest Gerber Graduate crackers(veggie flavored). Those don%26#039;t taste too bad and melts in your mouth. You can also eat some stew but make sure that the veggies and meat are very, very soft. If those pieces are too big then you can cut them up into mini pieces. I understand the pain...when i got mine out i had anesthesia so i was knocked out most of the day. If you know how to make porridge or congee then you can try that.

Reply:I would go for a nice milkshake or smoothie but don%26#039;t drink them through a straw. Good luck with the healing. :)
Reply:I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth cut out last tuesday.. my mouth is Still hurting and i still cant eat normal food... all i ate was icecream and my mom made me ramond noodles.. Easy to swollow.. and macaroni and cheese =) and im still eating that food i tried eating some hard food.. but it killed me and i was in soo much pain!
Reply:I just got mine out 2 hours ago!!! It sucked!! anyways that%26#039;s all I can eat for now my oral surgen said that today it%26#039;s just cold soft stuff but tomorrow it can be warm soft stuff, so maybe you can have pasta later??

Wisdom Teeth?
What is the purpose of having wisdom teeth and why do we get them
Wisdom Teeth?
hey amelia...ignoramous here...
wisdom teeth huh? well i will give you a lil inside skinny...obviously wisdom teeth are the final teeth to breach the gum lines around the age of 16-20
some scientist relate this to an appendix or gale bladder type of thing,...that we dont need them, but they are still part of human anatomy...
the skinny on wisdom teeth is, and this is right from my friend who is a dentist...that wisdom teeth in about 85% of situations do not have to be removed...its a mere moey maker for the industry...its like a gauranteed 1000 bucks for every man woman and child....what a person should do about wisdom teeth is to only have pulled the ones that are directly causeing pain, or some sort of off-set bite because of their size...
hope this helps...
i have only had to have one pulled...and i was awake, and it was a painful lil proceedure...but hey, you got to do what you got to do sometimes right?
Reply:Not sure why we get them, I know a theory is as humans developed, we needed more teeth by the time we were older, probably due to the loss of teeth from decay and/or disease. Some people live with theirs (I actually still have one, with three having been removed) and sometimes they are removed. Some people think they are like the appendix, they used to serve a useful function but over evolution, we no longer need them and so they are just superfulous. Most people need to have them removed due to problems such as impaction, partial eruption or lack of space for the wisdom teeth. If they come in without a problem, most dentists see no need in removing them.
From Wikipedia:
They are generally thought to be called wisdom teeth because they appear so late—much later than the other teeth, at an age where people are supposedly wiser than as a child, when the other teeth erupt. The English wisdom tooth is derived from Latin dens sapientiae. The same root is shared by German Weisheitszahn, Dutch verstandskies, Belgian-Dutch wijsheidstand, Norwegian visdomstann, Danish and Swedish visdomstand, Finnish viisaudenhammas, French dent de sagesse, Portuguese dente do juízo, Spanish muela del juicio or muela cordal, Italian dente del giudizio, Croatian and Serbian umnjaci, Hungarian bölcsességfog, Czech zuby moudrosti, Polish zęby mądrości, Russian зубы мудрости, Bulgarian мъдрец (meaning wise man), Estonian tarkusehammas and Hebrew שן בינה. There exists an interesting Dutch folk etymology that the Dutch word verstandskies is derived from %26quot;far-standing%26quot; (ver-staand) molar, and that mistranslations of the Dutch word (in which verstand translates to wisdom) are the root for corresponding words in other European languages.
Turkish language refers directly to the age at which wisdom teeth appear and calls it 20 yaş dişi (20th year tooth). In Korean, its name is Sa-rang-nee (사랑니, love teeth) referring to the young age and the pain of the first love. In Japanese, its name is Oyashirazu (親知らず), literally meaning %26quot;unknown to the parents%26quot; from the idea that they erupt after a child has moved away from home.

Wisdom Teeth.?
I just had my wisdom teeth out this morning, and I was wondering what can I eat?
Thanks!
Wisdom Teeth.?
Along with what RogueLeBeau has indicated, I was also told to stay away from carbonated beverages the day I had my wisdom teeth taken out.
Reply:You can eat anything around the extraction site except:
Hard foods such as carrots,
spicy foods that may irritate the site,
do not drink from a straw, it will cause the clot to become dislodged and may lead to infection,
and don%26#039;t brush the area vigorously, because of what is outlined for straw drinking.
Reply:I had macaroni %26amp; cheese with a lot of beer for my first meal after having a tooth extracted (lower 2nd molar.) Soft foods are recommended - such as scrambled eggs, pasta, and soup.
Alcohol is supposed to be avoided as it could dissolve the blood clot in the socket, but beer didn%26#039;t have any negative consequences for me.
Don%26#039;t spit, sneeze, cough, or rinse vigorously for 24 hours. You shouldn%26#039;t smoke or drink through a straw for 48 hours.
Vigorous mouth rinsing and brushing the extraction site are safe after 3 to 4 days.
The most important thing is to avoid dislodging or dissolving the blood clot in the socket, as that would cause a %26quot;dry socket%26quot; which can cause pain for several weeks to months.
The first 72 hours after extraction are generally the most critical time. After that, the socket has healed enough to not worry about it so much.
Do a Google search for %26quot;dry socket%26quot; and %26quot;tooth extraction%26quot;. All dental web sites give pretty much the same information, with slight variances as to time periods. Some sites tell you not to do something for 24 hours, others say 48 hours.

how bad is getting your wisdom teeth pulled? I have only heard bad things, but are they true?
Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are not that bad to get out when the dentist says they need to come out. Some people wait a LONG time and that%26#039;s when they get worse. Wisdom teeth have roots on them that look like ice cream sugar cones. They are pointy when they are developing. They should be take out mid teens to late teens. As you get older, the roots spread out. So the easiest time to extract them is when they are in the pointy stage. The best thing is to go to sleep when you have them taken out, all at one time. Dry sockets can be painful but are not REAL common if directions are followed like don%26#039;t drink out of a straw or smoke. Anything that you have to have a sucking like action.

Reply:It%26#039;s not really THAT bad. I%26#039;ve heard plenty of bad stories and crap, but surprisingly, I didn%26#039;t freak out when I was about to have mine out. I was sedated via IV and slept through the entire procedure. It%26#039;s afterwards that sucked, but I got over the pain and dry sockets.

How bad does it hurt after you get them pulled?
Before you got them pulled did you get massive headacks?
15, wisdom teeth getting pulled soon, i am in pain, what do i do to get rid of the pain?
Wisdom teeth?
Don%26#039;t be scared, it isn%26#039;t half as bad as you think it is. Before I had mine pulled I had the massive headaches, ear pain, and just severe pain where they were coming in. If anything you%26#039;ll feel better after they%26#039;re gone! Plus, I got a prescription for pain meds after mine, as I%26#039;m sure you will. With the help of those little pills I was able to survive getting all 4 wisdom %26amp; 2 other back teeth pulled at once with relatively no pain! I just slept through it. Granted it was uncomfortable, but not intolerable.
If you%26#039;re really scared of the process, ask if you can be put to sleep or if they offer any form of sedation. It costs a little extra, but it%26#039;s worth it. That%26#039;s how I did mine, and I only wish I could do that for every trip to the dentist!
As for your pain now, all I could recommend would be simple over-the-counter pain reliever. If it gets too bad contact your dentist.
Good luck!
Reply:If you%26#039;re 15, you won%26#039;t have a huge OUCH unless you%26#039;re just sensitive to pain. Wisdom teeth grow roots from 16-18 so you may not have any. After the shot of pain medication, you won%26#039;t feel a thing. See if they%26#039;ll let you wear headphones though because you can hear the tissue tearing as they pull them out.
Removing the roots is what makes it painful. I had mine removed at 24 and my jaws were sore for 3 days. My roots were impacted and 2 had to be removed surgically. Take it from me, get them all removed NOW while you don%26#039;t have roots.
Reply:No one can tell you how much pain you will be in after your wisdom teeth are pulled. That said, your dentist or oral surgeon should have current dental x-rays of your teeth. The x-rays will show him or her the true position of each wisdom tooth. Specifically, the dentist will know if the tooth is straight or tipped at virtually any possible angle. I have seen wisdom teeth almost completely upside down! The x-rays will show if the roots are long, short, hooked, etc. The x-rays might provide some clue as to whether a wisdom tooth is fused to the bone. This occurs almost exclusively in much older patients. X-rays show the proximity of the roots to vital nerves (trigeminal nerve specifically). If the dentist has taken the time to take a full medical history from you, examine the x-rays carefully, and if he is a skilled dentist (or oral surgeon), the procedure should have you up and about the very next day just as long as you do not over-exert. Always follow, to the letter, post-operative instructions from your dentist or his assistant! If you are a smoker, DO NOT SMOKE before surgery and do not resume smoking until the surgical site has healed. Smoking can cause infection, can dramatically slow healing and can disrupt the clot that protects the boney socket. Trust me, losing that clot can cause excruciating pain because you develop what is known as a dry socket. Dry socket is easily and painlessly treated so don%26#039;t suffer through it. Get help right away. You asked about massive headaches. They may or may not be related to your wisdom teeth. With a visual dental inspection and with current x-rays, a dentist might be able to to help determine if the wisdom teeth are contributing to headaches. My suspicion is that there is NOT a relationship. To ease the pain of wisdom teeth prior to your surgical date, I suggest you keep the area extremely clean. Brush two to three times a day. Floss at least daily, especially the back of you last tooth. You can try an oral rinse like listerine or ask your dentist for a perscription for peridex (chlorhexadine) if the tissue is extremely red and swollen. Don%26#039;t smoke!

Wisdom Teeth?
I got my wisdom teeth pulled two days ago. When will the stitches fall out and the swelling go down?
Wisdom Teeth?
If the sutures used are resorbable they will dissolve in about a weeks time; if they are not they will need to be removed by the oral surgeon or dentist that extracted your teeth in about the same amount of time.
The swelling and discomfort should ease three to four days after surgery, sometime less time, sometimes more.
If you find that the swelling increases, or your discomfort get worse, instead of better, contact your surgeon/dentist right away.
Generally dentists/ surgeons schedule a post operative visit to check healing and another later remove sutures (if needed). If the doctor said all looked well when you were seen, you will most likely not encounter complications.
You can always call the office with questions--most are eager to help.
Reply:If it%26#039;s really a serious problem you should call the dentist and ask about it
Reply:stitches ? I don%26#039;t remember getting any stitches . Your dentist is a quack, Of course mine were only pulled after they broke the surface
Reply:If the stitches are indeed the kind that will dissolve on their own, it will take several days to a week for it to happen. Swelling should start to go down anytime now, but if if is about the same tomorrow maybe you could go back to the dentist for a quick check just to make sure everything is ok.
Reply:The stitches have to be removed. In the hands of an oral surgeon, no swelling should be noticeable.
Reply:When I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I had to go back to the dentist after a few days to get the stitches pulled out. That was a couple of years ago, so maybe they have stitches that fall out on their own now, I don%26#039;t know. Make sure you don%26#039;t have to go back to the dentist to get the stitches taken out. Don%26#039;t worry if you have to get them taken out, it doesn%26#039;t hurt at all. The dentist just snips them and they pop right out. The swelling should go down in a few days, %26amp; it%26#039;s only been 2 days since you had the teeth pulled.
Reply:3-week-stitches-swelling-1 to 2-week-but the little hole takes-3-months`to-complete-ru-getting false uns`by-GUM`Hope not.?
Reply:Swelling should not be confused with dry socket; although painful, swelling should be expected and is a sign that the healing process is progressing normally. There is no general duration for this problem; the severity and duration of the swelling vary from case to case. The instructions the surgeon gives the patient will tell the patient for how long they should expect swelling to last, including when to expect the swelling to peak and when the swelling will start to subside. If the swelling does not begin to subside when it is supposed to, the patient should contact his or her surgeon immediately. While the swelling will generally not disappear completely for several days after it peaks, swelling that does not begin to subside or gets worse may be an indication of infection. Swelling that re-appears after a few weeks is an indication of infection caused by a bone or tooth fragment still in the wound and should be treated immediately. - Wikipedia

Wisdom teeth?
i got all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth out a little over a month ago (march 13). all the pain was gone for a while, but maybe a week or a week and a half ago, it started to hurt on the bottom left side again. i looked and there looked like a tiny canker sore on my cheek, but i havent said anything cause i dont want to complain. now it hurts so bad to even touch my jaw and it feels like a big lump or something. has anyone had this happen to them? does it go away, or should i call my dentist up? i dont want to if its no big deal and its normal or something. thanks for the help!
Wisdom teeth?
If it%26#039;s been a week and a half and it hurts just to touch your jaw, that%26#039;s telling you something%26#039;s seriously amiss. You possible have an infection in the extraction site which would require antibiotics. Don%26#039;t wait; get it looked at ASAP.
Reply:you should go to the dentist, it sounds like an abscess
Reply:It could be an infection. Get it checked immediately!
Reply:I would do the salt water rinse..but really you should talk to your DDS...I just had all my pulled 2 months ago...I haven%26#039;t had anything like that happen.
Reply:You might want to see your dentist. From experience AND being braced 3 times, the wisdom teeth will disrupt your perfect teeth. Your dentist will advise you what to do, but be sure to have him/her answer all your questions; go there with a list!!
Hope this helps.
Reply:I got my left bottom one taken out march 12th and Ive been having that problem as well. Its creepy because I never had that issue before. Ive been using a peroxide mix to rinse out my mouth after I brush my teeth but you should call your dentist, I cant imagine its normal.
Reply:Any infection from the chin up is considered to be life threatening. Maybe you have a day socket. The white patches on your cheek could be too much acid? You have described the signs and symptoms of an infection. A follow-up visit to your dentist sounds appropriate.
Reply:Well, I%26#039;ve never had my teeth pulled, but I%26#039;m getting them pulled this summer. That%26#039;s weird, because you got yours pulled on my birthday. Well, I would definitely go talked to the dentist, because if there is something wrong with your gums, it could get worse in time, and its his fault anyway.
Reply:Ok, Please ignore all the the previous answers.
1. It is not an infection- infections from extractions appear 48-72 hours after extraction- not 2 1/2 weeks later.
2. Dry socket happens around 4 days after extractions and is associated with excruciating pain but NO SWELLING!!!
The most likely cause of the pain is some residual bone remodeling that the jaw is undergoing. If the teeth were impacted and bone was removed to facilitate their removal it is very possible that small fragments of bone were trapped in the healing tissue. Over time ie. 3-4 weeks, these small fragments will be worked to the surface and can cause ulcerations, ie cankers, and swelling.
If this is the case these fragments are easily removed by the dentist. Generally not a big deal.
Reply:you should really go back and get it checked out ... im getting my 4 teeth removd somtime this summe or so ... the bottom teeth are causing so much pain, its sore and tender and i cant close my mouth right without my gums hurting .. idn why th top ones need to be removed htough .. no pain and thir not in the way .. but yea you should get it checked out .. i sorta have a cankersore to but its from the wisdom tooth rubbing on my cheeck in the back .. i hope it dont hurt for a long time cuz my friends were in alot of pain after gettign them removed ..and im a dibaetic so it only makes healing time longer and infection risk higher .. but yea hope your mouth feels better

I%26#039;m getting my four wisdom teeth taken out soon...(getting put to sleep for it)
If you have had your 4 taken out then how long did it take you to recover...how many days should you take off work??
Also...how much does it hurt?? LOL
Wisdom teeth?
I had mine taken out but I was awake. They numb your mouth like for any procedure and take them out. You mouth is sore for a few days (after the first day when it%26#039;s all numb) and you have to watch what you eat..don%26#039;t drink through a straw. the MD should give you some pain meds and a list of instructions.. Be sure to write down any concerns you have and talk with the staff prior to surgery.
Reply:I just had mine taken out yesterday and it wasnt very pleasent. I was asleep also and started throwing up when I woke up due to the medicine ( not everyone gets sick though ) I have slept all yesterday and all day today and am very swollen and sore. You will need at least 3 days off. Take it easy and dont get dry sockets.
Reply:It depends on the person and the teeth. Some people actually have to have major surgery in a medical center to get their teeth out. I have heard people just have them taken out and back at work the next day, and other people who needed a few days. It really does depend- your dentist should be able to give you a better idea as to the severity of the condition. If the teeth are tangeled in a nerve, impacted, etc, it%26#039;s going to be more difficult. I hope your surgery goes smoothly!
Reply:At least 3 days. if you have a good dentist you should feel ok. be ready to eat pudding and drink milkshakes, with ice cream
Reply:When I had mine taken out I was 16 and they were still under my gumline. They wanted them out to prevent them from moving my teeth (I had already been put through braces). So mine were dug out basically while I was put under. When I woke up there was no pain naturally, because of the numbness but the next day you will have some discomfort and there will probably be swelling or facial bruising, but everyone is different a little. Good luck though hun!
Reply:Yes I had all four out. The pain should be minimal if you don%26#039;t have any complications.
Because the holes left by the extractions need to form a blood clot to protect the nerve and tissue, lifting is not recommended from 24 - 48 hours after the procedure. Drinking fluids should be done carefully and absolutely NO STRAWS as the sucking can pull the clots out.
Heat will help any swelling as it improves circulation which will in turn help to remove excess fluid buildup. Sleep as much as you can afterwards to let your body repair itself.
Don%26#039;t worry, it%26#039;s not bad at all.
Reply:I%26#039;m probably not a good generic example, but I probably am a good extreme example of what could happen, so what you should watch out for.
I also got sick from the anesthesia and had uncontrollable crying from it when I wok up, but not all people do. They do assign you pain meds. I received Percocet which, unfortunately, I also reacted to. So I had to decide between the pain from the surgery (which for me was pretty bad, I also had all four taken out, but mine were all impacted) or getting sick from the medication. The initial pain took me about five days to get over, the swelling took about a week to a week and a half. During that I definitely couldn%26#039;t get anything from a straw and pretty much ate pudding, applesauce, and other things of that consistency. I%26#039;d be careful though- I don%26#039;t know if this is a general thing or something, but when I got chocolate pudding near the stitches it burned. Badly.
After that, really do clean out your mouth like they tell you to. Become anal about it. I, unfortunately, got a small piece of something in one of mine which cause it to become infected. And trust me, the cleaning out that you have to do and the pain from the infection is much worse (not to mention more icky) than the warm salt water wash.
Again, I%26#039;m a worse case. Pain med reactions run in my family. But I also think it%26#039;s good to read the worst of what could happen, so you could be prepared in case you do happen to be unlucky.
Reply:I would probably take the day after off. While at that point you%26#039;ll be started on the healing process and just rather tender, you%26#039;ll probably feel pretty drained and just not up to doing much still other then lazing around. Beyond that I think mine were just rather tender for a couple weeks while they healed. It%26#039;s not hard to bounce back one you are past the first day you got them out.
Reply:I had this experience recently as well. Everyone told me it was no big deal. The surgeon recommended having them out on a Friday so I%26#039;d have the weekend to recover.
Let me just say, I was in no shape to go back to work that following Monday. Nothing went wrong - I had no allergic reactions, no dry socket or anything, but it was a lot more painful than I had expected. I didn%26#039;t eat solid food for two entire weeks and I had pain for 3 weeks. My job requires a lot of talking, and that first 3 or 4 days was awful. I went home all three days early in tears.
Make sure you take the pain medication they give you - and take it as instructed. If you wait until you are in a lot of pain it won%26#039;t work (trust me - I know- I made this mistake).
Everyone is different, I usually have a very high pain tolerance and for some reason, this just got me. Mine were impacted and I%26#039;m told that does make a big difference. My husband, on the other hand, was fine. He had hardly any pain and was back at work the next day.
Good luck!!!

K this is what happened 12 days ago I got my wisdom teeth taken out, one on the left that was impacted and 2 on the right which I was told they did a bone gragh. My left side is still really sore taking 8 advil a day to get rid of the pain. I went to see the dentist about this yesterday just to find out if pain was normal at this stage (pain also keeps me up at night) he said the left side was fine but he was worried about the right side and that%26#039;s it%26#039;s still really swollen and now I have to go back to oral surgeon. What I wanna do is what could be the problem and what the oral surgeon will do? Will he have to open it up again?

I suppose the dentist didn%26#039;t answer these questions when you asked him otherwise you wouldn%26#039;t be asking us?? I have no idea what the surgeon will do, as I%26#039;m not an oral surgeon. I%26#039;m only a brain surgeon.**

You should be ok. I ate a triple cheese burger the next day. But then again, I did not swell at all and I think also the exception. Some people are out for as long as a week but no longer than that. I think you%26#039;re golden.
Reply:you should be fine
Reply:Yep, a week later you should be ok. Finish up that vicodin prescription before you go to the party though!
Reply:8 days should be OK. It will probably depend. I heard its only bad for 2-10 days.
Reply:lol, no idea
but i get mine out on the 9th, so we are like kin =P
good luck with it
Reply:I doubt it. I%26#039;ve known people who had wisdom teeth removed and
they had to take pills for about three weeks afterwards and could
not drink.
Reply:by the 20th maybee, by the 22nd... hell yeah. Drinking O.K. but eating might still be a Problem
Reply:I don%26#039;t recommend it, especially for the two weeks after the extraction. You will put yourself at risk for infection or pockets.
I have heard that pockets are terrible.
More than likely, you will be fine, but I would not take that chance.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out on a Thursday and started college the next Tuesday. It depends on how long you are on your pain meds, probably shouldn%26#039;t mix drinking with narcotics.
Reply:i dunno...ur takin a risk. you dont wanna get dry sockets, those are the worst. you get those when u get ur teeth pulled and afterward, you suck in, like when you drink from a straw or slurp soup...the air gets trapped in the sockets and its super painful....if you do decide to drink, just be careful man. i dont drink much myself so i dont know how strong the stuff is ur drinkin, but i wouldnt do anything crazy. stick with beer, no tequila, anything thats gonna burn...
Reply:I had all my teeth pulled 5-22, I was partying down by 6-2, I was sore but what a blast I had. You will Too!
Reply:yes, just be safe okay. Don%26#039;t drink too much where you throw up because it will make it more likely for your mouth to get infected. Keep the back of your mouth clean. Those kind of infections can be really dangerous.
Reply:Assuming no complications, you will be fine.
Reply:well get ready to drink those nights away, just remember friends dont let friends drive drunk and have someone responsible drive you home discuss it among who%26#039;s going to be there and things should go as planned
Reply:Yes, by this time you should be able to drink. If you are unsure, ask your dentist. Oh wait, you can%26#039;t, you%26#039;re underage haha.

Is it normal to have bad breath after having your wisdom teeth cut out?
Wisdom teeth?
Absolutely because you have stitches and probably a hole that food gets stuck in. Once you%26#039;re all healed up and the stitches are gone you%26#039;ll be fine. Until then ust drink lots of water and rinse, but not too hard.
Reply:Only if the extraction location has become infected . . .
Reply:Yeah dude, but gross.
Reply:that%26#039;s not normal at all. please follow up with your dentist or oral surgeon. sounds like you have a infection setting up, which could be causing the bad breath.
Reply:Yes it%26#039;s because they put those seperators in your mouth that make it impossible to close your mouth. Therefore your mouth gets super dry and that%26#039;s what causes it.
Reply:Oh yeah! I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out at once but I kept eating ice cream so I never smelled it.
But once I got a tooth pulled it stunk bad and I hated it. When my stiches finally came out I smelled it, the stiches were in the shape of the fan on a windmill, and it stunk so bad. It wasn%26#039;t too long before the smell went away. I think the next day or two.
Reply:It%26#039;s normal, but, keep an eye on it. If you get a fever, call the doctor. Follow the advice that the doctor gave you for keeping the area clean and follow them to the letter. I had to use a weird syringe to flush things out of my sockets until they healed. There was always a smell associated with that. Plus, you are probably keeping your mouth open which will cause dryness and a bit of a stink.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out last monday. It%26#039;s been a week and today I noticed this skin hanging in 1 of the sockets. It doesn%26#039;t hurt and it feels like a grain of cooked rice. It is kind of bugging me and I keep trying to loosen it with my tough. Should I try to pull it off???
Wisdom teeth?
Don%26#039;t pull it off it could lead to infection.. sounds like you may have what they call a dry socket.. just call your dentist.. in the mean time gargle with warm salt water.
Reply:NO..it is just the skin healing over the empty sockets. Once they heal that should go away
Reply:sounds like a stitch they use desolving stiches and they start to hang out and tickleit sucks and makes me gag%26#039; try to trim it
Reply:did they put in dis solvable stitches in? because it could be one of the stitches hanging out and i got mine out last week also and a piece of gum was hanging from my socket. it just fell out by itself. it%26#039;s like dead gums when they did the surgery they cut ur gums and they fall out later in lil pieces i mean will fall out. u might think they r food but its dead gums
Reply:It is probably healing, however if you feel like food is caught in there just take a wet q-tip and gently clean out, if it was a dry socket it would be very painful. Keep rinsing with warm H2O, like 4 times daily.

Wisdom teeth?
i%26#039;ve got two wisdom teeth coming through on the lower jaw and they%26#039;re making my gums sore. my dentist can%26#039;t see any problems though.
someone help??????????
Wisdom teeth?
have them extracted ASAP
Reply:When new teeth come through, it tends to hurt, even with your wisdom teeth. If the dentist says it%26#039;s all fine, then just take some painkillers and go with it. It%26#039;ll turn out all right.

Reply:As the wisdom teeth push through the gum, some soreness is possible. I worked for a dentist for 5 years, and he would advise the patient to go home, take some tylenol or advil, and see if the pain goes away. If so, then leave the wisdom teeth alone. However, if/when the pain persists, then have them out. Pain is normal to experience as the teeth move around and start to poke though the gums.
Reply:take advil. it works the best sfor these kinda things.
Reply:Try another dentist. Did your dentist take xrays at all.
if you don%26#039;t get them seen to the pain will get worse. when mine came through, i had to wait 10 days to see a dentist and 6 weeks to get them out as they were impacted. One side of my face even got puffy and my eye went kinda black, it looked like i%26#039;d been beaten up lol.
go. Go to another dentist. The sooner the better love.
Reply:Try taking an advil or something like that and put orajel on your gums. You might even buy a babys teething ring and freeze it and bite down on it to help get them through. Good luck and God bless you.
Reply:same thing happened to me, my dentist said it was nothing to worry about. Its just annoying

Reply:Just enjoy light and soft diet for a few days. Isee nothing which may be a problem for you in future.
Reply:That is mean%26#039;t to bite lots of wisdom to those who lack wisdom. Most wisdom teeth cause problems. Pulling out
in such cases is the ideal solution.
But this tooth, is dangerous to pull out w/o proper expertise. Some men/women have perished. These have nerves running deep inside our brain. Somebody has already said.Go for a third opinion too.
I have 3 of them, still at 41 , I ain%26#039;t have any problems.
Reply:Go to an Oral Surgeon and ask for a consultation, so they can get a better X-ray!!
Reply:I would get a second opinion. Don%26#039;t take any medication. All that will do is take the pain away not cure it. If you can%26#039;t feel the pain that is really there how will you know if the pain is getting better on it%26#039;s own or if the pain could be an emergency.
Reply:They can be stinkers coming in. If you are between age 17 and 21, sore is normal. Sometimes the opposing teeth can be shaved down a bit to give them room to come in.
