Wisdom teeth?

i'm getting my wisdom teeth surgically removed tomorrow...either 2 or 4, not sure yet, but they're gonna most likely put me out completely. any suggestions on improving the recovery process? and how long does it take to recover??

Wisdom teeth?
I got my wisdom teeth out about a month ago. I must say it wasn't the most pleasant experience. Just make sure you keep ice on it constantly for the first 48 hours, even sleep with it, or your face will swell up like a chipmunks'. They give you great pain meds! Eat only soft foods and nothing with little chunks in it...like corn, or sunflower seeds, they might fall into the holes in your gums, i had a sunflower seed stuck in my gums for almost a week....gross. Use lots of mouth wash only after the first 24 hours. Don't suck on a straw for 2 weeks, and avoid spitting. You want to keep the blood clot in your gums!! Otherwise you'll get dry sockets...very very painful. Best of luck to you, and just remember the first two days are the worst, it get better from there.
Reply:Take your pain pills and sleep a lot. Don't strain yourself. It takes about 2-3 days to recover.
Reply:I personally just had my wisdom teeth pulled; I went straight back to work with a gauze on the gum with no problems. Everybody I know that has them surgically removed has a day of recovery to get through. Just relax and know that the medications will make you feel weird. Good luck.
Reply:Poor thing! I'm not going to lie...The recovery is the worse part. Getting them pulled is a piece of cake! Just take the pain meds that they will prescribe to you. It will take a few days for the pain to go away!!! Good lick hon!
Reply:Hopefully it will take 5 or 6 days to recover but u must do what orthodontist says as far as cleaning so u dont get dry sockets. Also drink lots of water so your veins are easier to find for the nurse.
Reply:It takes a few weeks. Make sure you limit what you are eating to doctor-prescribed items. Nothing with small pieces that can get stuck on stitches. (I had a friend eat a strawberry smoothie... the seeds got into the stitches and pulled a few out over a few days)

You can't really hurry the healing process. You can only slow it down. Drink alot of water and keep your energy up by eating high-energy foods. Rest so that energy can go to healing and not to powering your activities.
Reply:Everyone is different on this. It depends on how difficult it is for the Dentist to get them out. Some are stubborn and some are easy.

Anyway you'll be just fine and usually after 3rd day you should be feeling alot better. I had mine cut out and had a couple stitches. I didn't have pain afterwards.
Reply:My daughter had this done. The pain meds they gave her were really strong--made her hallucinate. If you can get by without the strong meds, I think it is better. Sleep as much as possible and have a lot of soft food in the house. Jello, pudding, ice cream, mashed potatoes, etc. It took her at least 2 days to get over the worst of it--it's been about 10 years now, so maybe they have improved things since then.
Reply:If you are completely put under, it takes longer to recover. Some people take up to a year to completely recover from anesthesia, so if you can get a less invasive numbing agent, I would recommend it. It's very individual as to recovery. You may feel better by the next day, but you may have some memory issues, fatigue, problem solving deficits for a longer period of time. Drink lots of water and eat cleansing type foods, foods that don't remain toxic in the body for long periods of time, i.e.: fruits and vegies.
Reply:I don't remember exactly how long it took to recover. Three days? I had all four taken at once and they put my under. I recall laying on the big leather chair, a nurse putting something on my face, then there was a little row boat by a river and I got in, then I was back in the chair with tears on my face and I felt like I had been crying. My dad said he could hear me from the hall. He was just outside the door. It was a very pleasant experience as far as I can remember. Then I got to take pain killers for a few days and people took care of me. Not too bad. : )
Reply:well it depends on u.......i just have mine out yesterday...my right side doesn't hurt a bit but my left side went back to the dentist a 10:30 at night to get ten more skitches because it was bleedin a lot and it still hurts...both side was impacted but i guess it just depends on u...also i did my with the numbness thinnie n it only took them like 20 minutes to pull r cut all four out no need to put to sleep
