Wisdom teeth??

I might be getting my bottom wisdom teeth removed but im really scared when it comes to going to the dentist he said I wont be out but it will be numbed and I can have laughing gas if I want but im still scared how was your experience with it just being numb could you still feel it being done?? Also is it ok for a dentist to do it and not a dentist surgeon? This also worries me.

Wisdom teeth??
Hey there; first of all, please don't be scared. I know there is LOT of hype about having wisdom teeth out but take it from me: it's not as bad as everyone says. I had all four of mine out with just local numbing shots, and no sedation of any kind. Also, they were all impacted and all still inside my gums (they hadn't erupted through yet), so they had to be broken apart inside my head and cut out. Sounds bad, right? But it wasn't, and yours sounds like it will be an even less complicated procedure.

If you just get numbed, they'll give you a few shots in the mouth, which hurt a tiny little bit- just a little pinch like any needle. Not a big deal. After that you will not feel a thing. You feel the surgeon's hands in your mouth, you feel a bit of pressure, but it really doesn't feel any different from the patient's point of view than having a simple filling. If somebody told you you were just getting a filling done, I bet you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference.

But you definitely want to go to a maxillofacial surgeon rather than just a regular dentist. It's not a big deal- they're just dentists that are specially trained in doing work like this, so they'll be able to do it faster, and probably better than a regular dentist who doesn't do this procedure ten times every day :) Plus they will be used to working on patients like you who are nervous about having their wisdom teeth out, so they'll probably make you feel more at ease. The one I went to had an office that looked just like any other dental office, you won't have to go to a hospital or anything. Don't let the word surgeon scare you; again, it's just a dentist with extra training.

Most importantly, don't freak yourself out and let others scare you with horror stories. It will probably only take 1/2 an hour to an hour at most (mine only took about 50 minutes.) It will be over before you know it and you'll wonder why you were so scared in the first place. Good luck, I'm sure everything will be fine.
Reply:I had 6 teeth removed before my braces got put on and I had a surgeon dentist do it...he knocked me out...so I didn't feel a thing...but when I was a kid they just numbed it and I thought I was going to choke to death when he was pulling out two of my baby teeth....not fun....I'd get a second opinion.....
Reply:when i got my wisdom teeth removed it wasnt so bad you just cant be nervous going into it otherwise youll just be all sorts of paranoid
Reply:Do yourself a big favor and get an oral surgeon to do it. Trust me, you dont want to be awake for that.
Reply:I was high on valium, but awake..

I was so out of it that I migiht as well have been asleep.. I staggered (Drunkenly) out and asked mom if we could go shopping.. I thought life was GREAT.. that';s what valium does to you...
Reply:I had my bottom wisdom teeth taken out by a regular dentist. I did fine.. I was not "put out" either, really numb and some great pain pills after. Yes you are gonna be sore becasue wisdom tooth roots are deeper but you'll be fine..
