All my wisdom teeth are almost all in, but one of them hurts really bad, my gums are swollen around it, and it hurts when i bite down. Sometimes that whole side of my jaw hurts. It hurts so bad I can't sleep! Should I see a dentist or is this normal?
Wisdom Teeth?
Although it could be costly, I would see a dentist, at least call them to see if you should be seen! You never know if maybe that one is coming in crooked, and could be pushing against your other teeth. It could also be impacted, or starting to get infected. These are all things your dentist can help you find by doing an easy exam!
My first 3 wisdom teeth came in fine, but one started coming in sideways! Surgery wasn't near as horrible as everyone said. Just listen to what the dentist tells you to do and follow it to a 't' !
Reply:you need an oral surgeon asap. sometimes they have emergency hours. the one that hurts may be abscessed which means infection. be sure to stress that you are in lots of pain, they should get you in sooner.
Reply:definitely go see a dentist. once your wisdom teeth are full grown you are supposed to get them pulled out because there is not enough room in your mouth for all of your other teeth and your wisdom teeth.
its probably swelling because it has no room left and is pushing against your other teeth.
of course getting it pulled won't be fun, but it will definitely be worth it.
Reply:yep. go see the dentist coz wisdom teeth do cause problems sometimes, due to the fact that they push their way up in the jaw where most of the time there is no enough space for them
Reply:Most people get their wisdom teeth pulled before they even grow in. See your dentist appt asap. He'll refer you to an oral surgeon
Reply:go on monday afternoon. i had mine pulled 3 wks ago and im 12.

Wisdom teeth?
As an adult, I fear having my wisdom teeth removed and being under anesthesia when they're surgically removed. Is there anyone out there that can describe to me what the procedure is, and what I can do to speed the recovery process along? I'm fearful, and deafly afraid of surgery and the medical community. My experience have taught me that doctors are human too, and prone to mistakes as a result. Can anyone here give me some comforting words?
Wisdom teeth?
I had my wisdom teeth out a couple of years ago, and I had the same problems as you. Unfortunately, I also have a very high tolerance to pain meds and anestethia. lol.
I was apprehensive for a couple of days before....of course didn't sleep the night before. I had my procedure in the morning, so I didn't have to think about it all day. They tell you not to eat anything for 12 hours before....or I guess you can vomit while under. I got up the next morning, and took a double dose of Valium (they perscribed it to me because I was so anxious). I got to the office, and they took me in to a little room to ask some questions, and I started sobbing really loud. lol. The surgeon asked If I had had anything to eat or drink, and I just said valium. He asked me how much, I told him, and he said "how is it that you're even talking to me right now?". So....they delayed my surgery an hour so they could call in a specialist. When he finally got there, I was led back into a little room with the dental chair. There were several people in the room busying themselves with various things. (I was still crying...btw). They put in the IV (didn't even notice it)....and they put some oxygen in my nose (that tube that wraps around your ears....). Then the doctor said "I'm going to give you the medicine that makes you forget now". When I woke up, I was still crying, and I was confused about why I couldn't talk (I had gauze in my mouth, and it was numb). They took me in another room to let me recover, and then I walked out to the car and my husband drove me home. Then I slept for three days....lol. They gave me Percodan for the days after, but with my tolerance, it wasn't enough....so I would make myself a little gin/percodan cocktail, and then sleep for 4 hours. I was sore, I was swollen, and I was sleepy....but man was I relieved.
I told you all of that so you kind of know what's going to happen a little better. It's really not that bad...I promise. You wake up and the sense of relief of so strong that you forget why you were upset in the first place.
Also, did you know that they don't have to put you under? You can opt to be numb the whole time...if you like. You'll have to go through the drilling and cracking while awake....but maybe that would help you a little?
Reply:All I remember is it hurt really bad for a week or so then it wasnt bad at all. Put ice on your cheeks to help with swelling and dont drink out of a straw. Good luck
Reply:Find out if your dentists has a tape or CD player. Many do. Put on relaxing music. Tell the dentist to pump you full of joy juice and just do his thing. When my left side teeth were taken out the dentist gave me a play by play action of what was going on. The second time I put the headphones on and spaced out to my music.
Reply:I had all four of my removed at once didnt feel a thing. They gave me pain meds but did not really need any. It really is not that bad unless you get dry socket but that is unlikely better do it or you will have problems later on.
Reply:I'm a youngster, and i had my wisdom teeth removed when I was about 12-13. I was under laughing gas which pretty much did nothing. I lie down awake while they took them out and was mildly afraid. When you recover, eat a lot of jello. DON'T B SCARED. I'm not going to lie, it sucks a bit, but you should be glad you are going to be unconscious. The surgery is only in your mouth, and it is a procedure that is done thousands and thousands of times every day. Most surgeons have done it more times than can be counted on 30 hands and toes. You are probably in good hands. I had my tonsils removed which are in my throat (more risk of problems). I had them removed, its been a few years, I'm fine now, and so are many others i know who have had the surgery. You will be fine, just relax and have a nice nap while they do the surgery.
Reply:First of all...RELAX! You're getting yourself all psyched up over nothing. When you get to your appointment, the nurse will start an IV in your hand or arm. They'll explain the entire process to you as they go along.Once the IV is in place, you'll be given a local anesthetic that will not quite put you in a surgical coma, but more of a twilight sleep. When you wake up, everything will be over. You shouldn't be in any pain because your mouth will still be numb from the anesthetic. More than likely you'll get a prescription for some pain meds. Take them right away before the pain has a chance to return. If you follow the doctors directions, you'll be just fine.
Reply:I was lucky enough to not have bottom wisdom teeth, which I hear are harder to remove.
In any event, I was only given a local (Injection) and was sent home..did it on a friday so i had the weekend to revcover. Other than a headache after the fact, I do not remember any pain.
Reply:With the mistrust you have of health professionals, I would make sure you see an Oral Surgeon, not a dentist. This will give you the best odds of being in the presence of someone capable of handling any kind of emergency situation, AND, you will be in the hands of someone who has performed this surgery as a matter or routine.
I will not go into details regarding the surgery because it will do nothing to ease your anxiety. Believe me, sometimes ignorance IS bliss.
Sometimes, we have no choice but to put our faith in others. If it is essential that your wisdom teeth must come out, you are going to have to ultimately put your faith in an oral surgeon. Ask your friends and family who removed their wisdom teeth. Get a sesnse of who is generally favored in your community and then book a consultation. During the consultation, discuss your fears and reservations. A good oral surgeon should be able to help you relax and she should also discuss the most common risks associated with the procedure. Also, she will have your most up to date medical history, pharmaceutical history and current x-rays of your wisdom teeth. With all of that information, she should have an excellent idea of how well you will handle the procedure.
To aid in recovery, follow the surgeon's post-operative instructions. They should be clear and easy to follow. Ask that the surgeon be available to assist you should there be any complications. This can be asked during your consultation visit.
Finally, remember, countless thousands have had this procedure before you and they are all still alive to talk about it!!!
Reply:All I got was....novacaine..and the nitrous I had didnt do anything....but I got nearly a months supply of percocets :)
I hardly felt anything...its the mouth washing and jello eating after the fact which is really annoying... No biggie you'll be fine dont worry.

Wisdom teeth?
Im getting my wisdom teeth removed pretty soon. I was just wandering what to expect after the surgery. I already know it will hurt and have to eat jello and stuff. I just want to know about how long it last and how long before I can eat again and such. What kind of pain should i expect? Anything like that would be great to know.
Wisdom teeth?
Mine lasted about a week, but I didnt take the meds they gave me, only because I didnt want to vomit on top of the pain. There were only a few times I was like pacing in pain, its just like a really bad headache becasue they literally crack the tooth in half and remove it. Are you getting all 4 out? Impacted? Mine were partially out of the gumline. I was put to sleep. It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be. I am such a baby when it comes to the dentist and anything like that so me doing it, shows anyone can. I ate frosting just for the sugar to make my blood sugar go up. No straws! It sucks cause your face is numb the first day too. Just sleep a lot :) And be careful with the meds they give you. they are often too strong and a lot of people do get sick on them, I just took a bunch of ibuprofen and I was ok. But fill it just in case youre in really bad pain. Good luck! its not that bad!
Reply:oh god!!! you brought up some very, very, very painful memories...
Reply:The pain is different for everyone. I had a lot of pain because 3 out of 4 of my teeth were impacted still and they had to cut them out. I didnt eat any dairy products because you dont want a yeast infection in your mouth and tried to eat food that wasnt too cold because that hurt also. Mashed potatoes were good for me. My pain lasted for about 2 weeks before i felt a lot better. I suggest a lot of water drinking, rest and PAIN PILLS. good luck!
Reply:keep your head above your heart at all times, NO EATING NUTS!!!!! drik delicious smoothies, and remember it is for the best. If they are not removed, all of your teeth will be moved forward. (p.s., ask to be asleep, not awake when they take them out. you'll recover faster.)
Reply:All 3 of my kids have had theirs out... USE YOUR ICE BAGS!! They tell you to put ice on both sides of your face for the first 24 hours, that really helps keep the swelling down and keeps the pain down. 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off all day!
Take your pain pills on time, don't wait until you're actually in pain, then they don't work as well. If you do that for the first 24 hours, you'll feel much better from not having a lot of swelling and pain. They were pretty much back to normal after 4 days. Good luck!
Reply:like 4 weeks
Reply:Both of my teenage girls had them surgically cut out. Other than the typical swelling the pain was minor. They went out that night. Just had to be careful what to eat. Soft foods only till it heals. They napped out the anestisia, and was good to go by that evening.
Reply:I got my wisdome teeth removed a year ago, and honestly it is not that bad at all. They gave me vicodine for the pain, which I didn't need at all because there was virtually no pain. I was eating normal food after 3 days, except I was chewing with my front teeth so I didn't start bleeding where my teeth had been.
In my life I have had 8 teeth removed. 4 before I got my braces when I was 15, and all 4 wisdom teeth. And honestly, none of it was that bad.
So don't worry, it's not as bad as some people make it sound.
Reply:HI, first I just want to say you don't have to be asleep when you get them done! I had two cut out and two pulled, the two that had to be cut out were growing in side ways and I wasn't asleep! I didn't feel any pain JUST TAKE THE MEDS ON TIME DON'T wait for the pain to start and keep the ice on as directed it REALLY does help!!!! I was back to normal in three days!! Don't eat the first 24 hours and when you do eat try to keep it in the front of your mouth and check your holes when your done eating. (You can use a tooth pick to get the stuff out) Be sure to check them you don't want to get a dry socket. Don't expect alot of pain like I said I didn't have any but I did what I was told! Good Luck and I hope this helps! It really isn't that bad!

Wisdom Teeth?
My wisdom teeth are growing in right now. Should I get them pulled as soon as possible or wait until they grow in? Which would be less painful?
Wisdom Teeth?
I just got mine out recently and I waited a long time, until they came in completely. My dentist kept telling me to get them out as soon as I could but I never did until later because of money and time. I hear its a lot better to get them out as soon as you can because its easier to pull them out when the root hasn't been developed. As gross as this sounds, I think it takes more time and yanking for the dentist when the root has grown in already. I also got infections in these teeth before I got them out because it was hard to keep them clean and that really hurt. But, nevertheless, when I finally got mine out it really wasn't bad at all. I only took vicodine right after the surgery and but after that with the days that followed, I only needed tylenol. So all in all, I think it would be easier on you and your dentist to get them out as soon as you can, but if not, its no big deal. ( I actually really liked the way I felt after I woke up from the surgery!:D I felt so completely relaxed and peaceful and I actually was pretty lucid. I went home and drifted in and out of sleep the rest of the day and it was really nice :)
Reply:I had mine pulled just after they came in. It's uncomfortable either way, but medication should help your discomfort.
Reply:Well, when I had my wisdom's pulled, 2 of them were impacted and the other 2 had grown in about half way. They all healed up about the same and the pain wasn't that bad. I think that it really depends on your surgeon. And make sure that you do everything that they tell you. Trust me, it will help you heal faster with minimal pain! I didn't even take the Vikadin (sp?) that they gave me and I had no swelling or bruising.
If you had braces, I would get them pulled as soon as possible so that they don't make all your teeth move like they did mine. I had braces and I waited too long to get my wisdom teeth pulled, and my teeth are crooked again! Don't risk your teeth getting all jacked up, get it done soon!
Good Luck!
Reply:Not everyone needs them pulled. Has a dentist told you they need pulled?
Reply:Wait till they grow in. Then it would be less painfull. They might cut ur gums if they hae not grown in all the way. Or some will tell u wait till they grow in.
Reply:If there's room in your mouth for your wisdom teeth, let them come in. If not, you'll experience crowding of your current teeth and I'm sure more pain as well.
What does your dentist suggest?
Reply:Why do you want to have them pulled at all? If they are healthy, keep them.
Reply:get them pulled now
Reply:I had mine taken out before they even came through the gums. The dentist said it is less painfull if you get them before they grow in.
Reply:You have to take it fast, also take in consideration where is located that wisdom tooth, because if it is close to the alveolar nerve and if you leave it the way they are, you can have a complication.
Also take in consideration to go to a Maxilo Facial, those doctors are specialized in that.
The pain will be the same, but try to avoid some complication.
If you hurt the alveolar nerve, you maybe can loss the sensivity of the have of the mouth and the chin, but it temporary (starting from 6 months). That is called a Paresthaesia.
So ask your doctor what to do, but i recommend you to finish as soon as possible to avoid complications and the teeth movement.
Good Luck

Wisdom Teeth?
I am having my wisdom teeth pulled and I want to do them all at once, but because of the pain my husband thinks that I should only have two done at once. What is your opinion on this?
Wisdom Teeth?
I know from experience it is best to get it over in one shot. The pain is tolerable because during the procedure your mouth is numb and afterward the doctor will prescribe pain killers.
Reply:I had what is referred to is obstructed wisdown teeth, all four of them were like that. That meant the teeth were all tangled up around my other teeth and very deep. (the worst kind of wisdom teeth to have removed). I had all four done at the same time, and although it was a crappy, painful healing process, I personally wouldnt have split it into two trips. At least if you do them all together you only have to go through it once and you are all done! Hope this helps!
Reply:Get them all done while you are in there, no need to go back and go through the whole healing process again.
Reply:I had all of mine done at once. I did not want to, but I'm so glad i went ahead and did it. Otherwise I wouldn't have gone back and got the others done. Go ahead and have them all done at once. It's better to get it all over with at once, and it's really not that painful. You're out of it most of the time. Good luck!!!
Reply:Do them all at once. It's not worth having to recover from the same operation twice. I did that and I am glad I didn't split it up.
Reply:The best way is to get it over with all at once. You will have pain medication to help you get through it. It is very hard to walk back in the door after going through it once. The majority of people do it this way so you will be fine too.
Reply:ok i can tell you that you are in more pain now than you will be after it/they are pulled.i had 3 of mine done at the same time .it wasnt as apinful as you would think.there is a lil pain ,im not ging to lie,but its no where close to what i was feeling before they were pulled.you will get pain meds and antibiotics afterwards.take the pain meds before your pain gets intense(if it even does).most people wait till the pain is too much to bear to take the meds.i would recommend to have them all pulled at once.good luck and i hope you feel better soon.
Reply:You are better off biting the bullet and getting it all done at once. The pain isn't any worse [you'll be taking pain meds] and once it's over with you'll be glad you're finished with it. The top ones don't cause much discomfort any ways.

Wisdom teeth!?
I am getting my all of wisdom teeth removed tomorrow (wend). I Know there will be some swelling but my friends are having a huge party on Saturday night and if the swelling has gone down I was going to go, so I wanted to know if I would damage anything if I drank some alcohol?
Wisdom teeth!?
Having your wisdom teeth removed is considered surgery and I would not recommend drinking alcohol. Your body needs time to heal and rest. What if all of a sudden u get in severe pain and in an emergency have to go in to the dentist and they smell alcohol on u? I think u would get the lecture of a lifetime.
Reply:You should be okay by Saturday.
Reply:Like I have always said getting wisdom teeth never ever made anyone any smarter!

Wisdom teeth! ):?
i'm getting my wisdom teeth in and they are just starting to break the skin and it hurts like CRAZY! what can i do! its driving me nuts! what kind of medicine should i take? would tylenol be ok?
Wisdom teeth! ):?
Yeah, anything with ibuprofen works from my experience. Also try getting an ice cube and sticking over the tooth.
Are you getting them removed at all? If so, now it the time to do it. I'm not trying to scare you, but the longer you wait, the more formed your tooth is and the more it hurts.
Reply:tylenol would be fine...but I would suggest making an appt w/ an oral surgeon for a consult to get them removed! Wisdom teeth are so far back in the mouth that many people can not keep them clean enough to keep cavities away! Plus they can cause your other teeth to overcrowd!!
Reply:tylenol would b fine to take.
Reply:Yes, Tylenol or Advil will help reduce the swelling. You could also get headaches from it, so again those two will work well. Also, this may sound silly, but bite down gently on a wet facecloth or a baby teething ring, it feels a lot better. I'm 25 and just had all my wisdom teeth out a couple of months ago so I know the pain you're going through. Hope you get better soon!
Reply:youre not supposed to take ibuprofin during pregnancy, if youre not very far along (like first trimester) i wouldnt take anything, but farther along you can take tylenol. ive got a cavity in mine right now, and im trying to bear through it!! good luck!
Reply:tylenol would be ok, but also you could go to your dentist and make an appointment, ask about getting them removed but you could also ask him/her what medicine to use...painkiller? numbing stuff?
Reply:Ah! I am getting my wisdom teeth removed soon...

Wisdom teeth?
my best friend just had her wisdom teeth taken out wat can she eat that will not harm her mouth she only had them out yesterday finding it hard to talk any ideas
Wisdom teeth?
Poor thing. I had two of mine out and the pain was beyond belief. I found eating very soft food, like ice cream, yogurt, jelly and biscuits dunked in tea, warm soups etc. Make sure she washes her mouth with mouth wash after each meal as particles can get stuck.
She will get worse before she gets better, and she is very lucky to have a good friend who is helping her.
Reply:take pain killers regular and just eat soft food, mash potato, soup, soft eggs, weetabix in warm milk etc, if she eats anything hard or sharp like a chip/fries then it might stick in the hole and hurt
Reply:Soup with bread soaked in it is best. My sister is a dentist and says you shouldn't eat solids for a while well a few days at least. Ice cream is a life saver though!!
Reply:Whatever if comfortable. Soft foods like yoghurt, mashed potatoe and cheese. Ice Cream maybe soup. Try to avoid really hot or cold foods. I had all four of my wisdom teeth out many years ago so this is what I remember
Reply:To eat every thing that doesn't cause inflamation like chilly or hot food . Speedy recoveryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Reply:soup, but i was lucky i was eating steak and rice the next day. very slowly but the will to eat was to great. just make sure she rinses her mouth with salt water gently to remove anything from the socket. and the salt will remove the taste of blood from her mouth. just let her know to start slow and eat what shes comfortable with.
Reply:I've had all my whisdom teeth out and didn't find any problems eating. She should just be careful, nothing salty or too cold, and make sure they are small bites.
Your a nice friend for asking.
Reply:I lived on mashed potato and hummus for a couple of days.
Reply:Weetabix with warm milk and sugar did it for me.
Reply:wisdom teeth is 3rd molar .it comes at age of 17-25.ask ur friend to eat soft diet like rice and take medication as prescibed by your dentist .and rinse with warm salted water 2 -3 times daily. most importent keep that area clean
Reply:Ideas for food : anything like mashed potatoes, pudding, plain Ice cream, oatmeal. Mainly soft foods. No straws
Reply:Hi, my friend recently went thru the same thing, she found that eating yoghurt, ice cream, soup..anything really that is easy to swallow......x
Reply:I sucked on lots of ice and popsicles it helps numb your mouth too...
Reply:Whatever she eats will cause no harm but, of course, whether she can chew or not will affect what she can eat. After the first day or so the most critical period of healing has already started so how quickly she now heals is, to some extent, predetermined. Using a good mouthwash such as corsodyl will help.
Pain is always nature's guide. If she can eat curry, crisps or whatever without pain then carry on.

Wisdom teeth!!?
does anyone know about how much it costs to get all 4 wisdom teeth removed with a general anesthetic??
Thanks!
Wisdom teeth!!?
I got mine done in September 2006. It cost $1,165 plus a $55 consulation fee before I had it done.
Reply:About $100/tooth.
Reply:Depending on who you go to, anywhere from about $1,000-$2,500, usually your health insurance will cover it though if your dentist is recommending it, so if you have health insurance, I would definitely call them up because they should at least cover part of the cost, I had Harvard Pilgram and they covered the whole thing.
Reply:you would have to call the place where your getting it done at, or call your insurance company to see how much they cover.
Reply:It cost me about 1.2k
Reply:I had one removed with general anesthetic at a cost of $84 at this rate you'll pay $336. Thats not including the four cocktails I had that night as a 2nd anesthetic.

Wisdom Teeth?
I think my wisdom teeth are coming through and they are quite painful. Does anyone have any ingenious ways or products to help ease the pain until they have come through properly?
Wisdom Teeth?
Seek the advise of a dentist. If they are coming in straight and you can properly clean them, you should be fine. Orajel may help the discomfort. I have all 4 of mine, and do bite the side of my jaw occasionally.
Reply:Has a dentist told you if they are able to come through properly? Impacted wisdom teeth will cause pain and make the other teeth shift. Xrays will allow the dentist to tell you if they are able to or not.
Reply:You can buy some numbing gel from your local chemist, used for when baby's are teething.Try chewing on some cloves. They taste like s*hit but it really helps.
Take Ibuprofen.
Reply:The only way to take the discomfort and negative local effects of wisdom teeth eruption, is to remove them before they cause you mroe problems... If you want to find out more on what wisdom teeth do in terms of negative effects, go to http://www.dentalimplantsaustralia.com/
Always get your wisdom teeth removed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon

Do some oral surgeons still put the patient completely under...so i can go in be put to sleep and wake up without feeling or remebering anything?...oh...im getting my wisdom teeth pulled and i don't wanna be awake for it

Reply:I was just given a whole bunch of valium. I was basically out - because although they say I wasn't "under" I don't remember a thing. Being put under is usually the most dangerous part of a surgery - trust me you'll be fine.
Reply:you can choose- my hubby had his done while he was awake and said it wasn't that bad and only took 10-15 minutes once he was numb.
you can also choose to be put under but it costs more and you have to have someone drive you home. the difference for my hubby was about 300 dollars more.
the pain/discomfort afterwards is the same.
Reply:It depends on what you want really. I think most put the patient completely under -or at least that is what I'd want- and then do the procedure. But trust me, whether you remember it or not, you will feel it eventually.
Reply:My oral surgeon put me completely under. (I got mine out in March) I din't feel anything until the next day but I had strong pain killers so that wan't too bad.
Reply:It is admittedly an unpleasant experience, but doctors these days prefer not to use general anaesthesia due to potential risk (my general made me very ill afterwards). You won't feel any pain during the procedure but be prepared for some discomfort afterward. It's a great way to lose weight! (just kidding really)
Reply:NO.. this is a simple procedure.. they will give you gas or a shot.. it's not a big deal.. it won't hurt.. And if you're anything like me, you'll be glad to get those things out.. you'll feel much better! just relax.. and I recommend that you ask for the gas, cause you'll just start to laugh, and when you stop, it'll be over.
Reply:It depends on the condition of the tooth itself. But not so serious an injection is enough.
Reply:absolutely yes!!!! Call dentist or "oral surgeons" and find out who does that in your area. In fact I have never heard of anyone being awake during having their wisdom teeth out. Afterwards make sure you drink lots and lots of water, and juice and pop etc. Also try popsicles and warm tea. Don't get dehydrated. You will be fine, don't worry. The pain will not be that bad and can be contolled with meds and cold packs. You will need two to three days to recover.
Reply:I would call and ask first. I thought my dentist did but when I got there I was awake through the whole thing. Not so bad only takes abot 45min-1 hour. Goes by fast.
Reply:why do they remove wisdom tooth anyway, mine actually grew back just recently, so i donut see the point., but more and more doctors are begging to not use the gas anymore they like injections faster and cheaper for them, they don't have to worries about giving patients lethal doses or not enough gas to the patient, an injection is allot safer and quicker in my town i couldn't find a single one that used gas i had to go to Sacramento and even there it was hard to find one.

what will happen if i dont get my wisdom teeth pulled, and there obviously isnt enough room for them
Wisdom teeth?
It will move the other teeh forward to make room and it will screw up your bite. Have the oral surgeon do xrays and shee how and where the teeth are...Believe me i use to do this for a living, its easier on you if the teeth are impacted, that means under the gum to have them removed. If you just let this go and your teeth get all jacked up and the older you get the teeth will fuse to the bone, and its a real pain in the assets to remove them...
Reply:It will move your other teeth.
Someone people don't have wisdom teeth.
The human mouth has gotten smaller and due to evolution the wisdom teeth are disappearing.
Reply:they going to damage your molars, because usually wisdom teeth grows in varys ways, instead going up, they go side ways, they will damage your molars, i advise to take it off
Reply:although i am not sure..i am 27 and still have mine..they seem like they are dormant, but everyone says they will eventually need to come out..i guess it's not time for me yet.
Reply:Had mine removed 1 month ago. Was supposed to have them removed 12 years ago. If you leave them in, they will start to crowd your other teeth. when they come through the gums they will be hard to reach with a toothbrush so they will start to decay and cause a whole other set of problems. Get them out, it doesnt hurt a bit and I was back to normal in 2 days.
Reply:They could damage the teeth already there. And you would still have to have teeth pulled. I used to get BAD nosebleeds before I got mine out. I suggest if it is time to get them out, pay the man and get them out. Of course you could be like my husband and still not have problems at 40 but I would err on the side of not taking that risk. Because you could be in pain a long time before the dentist can fit you into his schedule.
Reply:you teeth will get crushed and buckeled at the front
Reply:Why remove a wisdom tooth?
http://www.members.aol.com/swf08302/wizd...
shows one reason. This is what can happen by the time you are 40 or 50 if you leave a wisdom tooth in place when it is impacted. The red arrows on the x-ray show the grey area that has decayed due to the wisdom tooth being present under the gum. THe tooth shown is the exact same tooth shown in the x-ray, but turned so you can see the cavity. Food and bacteria can get down there and you can't clean it out. Eventually, it makes a cavity in the tooth next to the wisdom tooth and makes it so you have to have BOTH teeth removed.

Wisdom Teeth!!!!!?
My wisdom teeth are killing me! all 4! and i cant get an appointment to take them out til august...what can i do to relieve the pain a little?
Wisdom Teeth!!!!!?
Eat ice cream. Really. Not anything crunchy, just plain old vanilla, strawberry, or chocolate.
You can take Advil, Aleve, or Tylenol; but don't take more than the recommended dose on the label!
Try Chloraseptic, the 'sore throat spray'. You spray it on the affected area, then spit it out...do NOT swallow it. It helps to numb the area.
Call your dentist and tell them you are in pain, perhaps they can get you in sooner if there's a cancelled appointment or if they are empathetic. Good luck!
Reply:find another oral surgeon
Reply:For now take some aspirin or something to relieve the pain. Or you can use a cold pack for it.
Reply:try Motrin or Tylenol and use oragel or something similar
Reply:Anbeseol or gargling salt water, or yes try making an appointment at another office.
Reply:It sounds to me like you have impacted wisdom teeth and you should have then taken out ASAP. Can't you find someone else in your area that can take them out for you? What kind of doctor makes a patient wait a month or more when they are in pain? Look up oral surgeons in the yellow pages and call them until you find one that will help you.
Until that time, rinse your mouth out with warm salt water several times a day and take Advil (ibruprofen) 2 tablets every 4 hours.
Reply:If you need immediate help, check out the doctors in your area on this web site. Go under 'provider search' and check if there are doctors. If there are, call them and ask if they accept the discount card.
If they do, make the appointment and sign up on line.
You will have an ID number that you can use for the services IMMEDIATELY.

I am 22 years old and my wisdom teeth have never grown in. Will I get them when I get older or do some people just not get them?
Wisdom teeth?
u cud get them a li'l later.actually i've seen wisdom teeth comin out in people as old as 56yrs.so u have lotsa time! ;) for some people, the wisdom tooth is stuck in the bone of the jaw.sometimes tilted, sometimes horizontal.these shudn't bother u unless thy're inclining on a good tooth.if ur concerned, get a full mouth x ray or an OPG done to locate thm n thn ur dentist can decide what needs to be done.there have been cases where the wisdom tooth just isn't there in the mouth.if u are one of those people, lucky you! :)
Reply:They can come in later but sometimes if they do they are very impacted because by the time you're 25 they have grown roots making them much harder to remove. Ask your dentist. He can see whether they will be a problem from an xray.
Reply:Have you ever had a panoramic x-ray? It's an x-ray of your whole mouth. If you have any wisdom teeth that have not come through the bone yet, this x-ray will show you. Some people don't develop wisdom teeth. Just evolution. We don't need them anymore like our ancestors did. I only had three wisdom teeth develop and I'm 23. Two of them never erupted into my mouth, so even if you do have them in your jaw, there is a chance they will never erupt.

WIsdom Teeth?
I had all four of my wisdom teeth out a week and a half ago, and i'm off perkocet now. I went for a check up one week after the surgery, and the doctor said all was fine, and that the wounds were healing well. Lately i've been feeling a toothache sensation though, is that normal? its mainly in my back moulers. Is that just the muscles and what not getting back into chewing and being used?
WIsdom Teeth?
I had mine out recently as well. I also had toothaches in my molars, and the dentist said it is normal. It went away gradually over about a weeks' time.
Reply:it depends is it a pain that wont go away if so u might have dry sockets and that sucks and the pain wont ever go away unless you get it packed
Reply:That's a lot to get done at once, But if the doctor said all is well I'm sure he is right. You have to understand how much work that was to take them out to appreciate what your mouth went through, the anesthesia killed the pain, but there is a reason they call it surgery. Way to hang tough.
Reply:Yeah, that is normal. Give a couple of weeks, and you should be as good as new. If it is a really sharp pain, though, you might want to go back and make sure you do not have a dry socket. I had one, and it really sucks! But a dull ache will likely last a couple of weeks.

what is the age that u r suppose to get ur wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth?
it really depends. my friends got them in high school, college, and me i got them when i was 26. some people don't have them at all. so it really depends, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones.
Reply:Really depends on your dentist. I got mine pulled at 17. My dentist is 40 and he's never had his pulled
Reply:every1 is different...im 18 and my wisdom teeth weren't even fully grown out...i got em removed n e way tho...
Reply:They do come in when they want. Its a wierd thing. The best thing to do is have them removed when they are comming in as to wait. I had 2 on one side removed surgically when I was about 20. I was tols to get them all removed but I wanted to be able to chew on 1 side of my mouth. I was 40 when I removed a lower right one after it broke, which left a crater in my gum. Then 47 when I got the last rotten one pulled and it didnt leave a crater. They are conical teeth and easilly pulled and useless. Try chewing ice with a wisdom tooth..it hurts. They break and get brittle and it is best to get them removed at a young age as soon as they start comming in.
Reply:depends on the person but I always heard before your 25 is best. You heal better.

my wife is due to 2 wisdom teeth out!!what has she to expect pain wise?and how long before it has all healed up?
Wisdom teeth?
Well it would depend on what kind of pain tolerance your wife has, I got all four of mine pulled out when I was 11! I didn't think it hurt, more like just a pressure on my head...I was fine after the meds wore off. But like I said it depends on the person, some ppl say that having their wisdom teeth is the most painful thing they've ever had happen to them...but it shouldn't be that bad.
Reply:I had a wisdom tooth taken out (as my mouth is too small for any extra teeth), along with some bone and gum cut away as it was growing at a strange angle.
I stayed awake during the procedure, which as bearable. It was just like any dentist visit. I don't mind pain as long as I know it will be over in a set time. It lasted about 30mins.
They numbed my mouth, so felt like it was swollen, (which is wasn't)
About 2 hours later I was in the most unbearable pain, I have ever felt!!! (I guess the injection to numb my mouth had worn off at this point) It lasted 2days, and no tablets would help, so I just tried sleeping the whole time...
I have another wisdom tooth, which is causing some problems but unless it is essential to be taken out, I ain't bothering because the pain so bad with the 1st one.
My advice to your wife, start taking strong painkillers BEFORE the procedure, so you don't have to wait for it to get into your system. Make sure you have the day of the procedure and the following day off work - just in case.
Reply:It's not exactly pain. It's just like an itchy feeling that you feel like you want to bite it.
Reply:I had 5 wisdom teeth taken out a few months ago.
(1 was begin to over lap another causing 2 in my upper left)
I advise your wife to take pain medication prior to getting them taken out. Make sure the pain medication is prescribed by her doctor and she has previously taken this medication before so no worry of side effects.
I also advise her to take off the next couple of days from work. She is going to be sore, not want to talk a lot and a little tired if she has pain to the point it is hard to sleep.
I went to my English class the next day and my teacher sent me home and told me I can take my test when I am healed. Most professors and employeers will understand.
It was horrible and I can't believe I allowed myself to be that brave.
The first 3 nights was the worst. I couldn't eat (nor sip anything), bleeding non stop and the pain kept me up crying as I couldn't even swollow the pain medication (which my heart doctor forbid me to take after he found out as my body reacts to it).
It wouldn't as been as bad if I did 1 or two. but it was bad as I did all 5 which was more intense.
After a week, it was still bad, but not as bad. I could talk better and eat better on my right then left, but my jaw was still pretty sore (almost like the feeling of chewing hard gum for too long).
I was able to finally get back to normal roughly 1.5 months.
The issue now is that as the wisdom teeth came in, they also shifted my other teeth, causing my back to seperate and my gums to be sensetive. I have to see about getting braces or re-adjusting without causing surgury as I can't afford that.
My insurance didn't pick up the 1,000 and something bill.
Make sure everything when billing wise is taken care of so the stress of happening to pay while healing isn't present.
Reply:If she is having the two removed from the mandible she may have a longer recovery time especially if the teeth were closer to the nerve (I'd say about a two- three days of swelling and pain and discomfort). If they are coming from the upper jaw then the extraction should be smoother making her recovery time about two days and the swelling a lot less also. Ask for Prednisone (a cortisteroid that will greatly reduce facial swelling, may cause some slight nausea but worth it!). Once the anesthesia wears off her face may feel something like she got hit with a baseball bat, so be kind. Buy lots of soft food (pudding, ice cream, tapioca); no caffeine, chocolate or anything that would aggravate the site or cause bleeding.
Reply:I had this done a few years ago, the teeth and gums were OK pain-wise afterwards, but then i had a series of throat infections due tube down throat. not sure if this was the way either the anaesthetic was administered , or some thing that was used to hold my 'bits' out of the way. don't really know, but I'd ask beforehand- as you don't have the opportunity afterwards.
Reply:I had one wisdom tooth pulled at the dentist's surgery, using local anaesthetic. I was terrified beforehand but it was out fairly quickly. If the whole tooth is through and not hidden in the gum, then it is like any tooth extraction - the dentist levers the tooth a little at first then pulls it with a bit of a twisting motion. it might sound a little gruesome but it doesn't hurt - only feels a bit odd. Mine hardly bled and by the time I had left the dentist's chair it had stopped completely. A clot will form in the hole and it is important that this is left in place as this helps the hole to heal properly. If your wife's teeth are inside the gum, then I would expect the procedure is a little more complicated and someone else may be able to offer you their experience. Mine had healed by about a week or so and the dentist checked after a couple of days to ensure that it was healing well. I regularly took paracetamol just to dull the ache afterwards!
Reply:I had all four out in one go in hospital. Three were impacted, the other was growing in such a way that it couldn't be cleaned so it would have sent my other teeth into decay.
I had a bad experience. I should have been in over-night but I got an infection in my lower jaw and ended up staying in for 12 nights.
Besides coming out with temporary agoraphobia, (I was confined to a private ward because the swelling would have upset the other patients in a general ward), I had severe constipation through taking codine (pain-killer). They were injecting me with penycycllin three times a day to combat the infection - I now have an aversion to it.
Slithers of bone were coming out of my gums for the next six months.
I'm OK now, but hereas I used to be pretty nonchalent about going into hospital or going to the dentist, I now hate it.
At the time, dental procedures in hospitals were not as strict as surgical procedures. They are now.
I was a one off - I think.

i had my four wisdom teeth taken out on 01/17/08 is it normal for it to itch and when i yown its very uncumfterable when will this be over?
Wisdom teeth?
oh honey, wish u the best health...
if u take medicine, it should be relieved 5 days after extraction or a day more...
the best to use:
diclofinac sodium 50 mg twice a day/ if there is pain
metronidazole 500 mg 3 times/day /five days
Amoxycilline 500 mg 3 times/day /five days
Reply:yes, it's normal. are you taking antibiotics to prevent it from getting infected? good luck and hang in there!
Reply:Never had that problem, but my wisdom teeth already had come up and were causing me great pain until they took them out. Once they took them out the pain was gone, I bleed for a few days and that was it. No pain, no itching. Maybe you need to go back to the Dentist.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out, for me it took about 1 week for me to feel comfortable to eat easily and after 2 weeks i had fully recovered. To aid your recovery, i recommend not moving your mouth much :)
Reply:I feel your pain as had mine removed on friday 25.01.08 and i want to cry still.....
Reply:The area is still healing and will take about six months to truly heal. When you have a cut on your arm and it's healing, it gets itchy too. It's not all that different.
As far as the discomfort when yawning, when you had the teeth extracted, the dentist had to stretch open your mouth and muscles that aren't' meant to be stretched that much. Sometimes you can develop a temporary problem called "trismus." This would be from the muscles going into spasm and you have difficulty opening. It will get better because you know it is from having the wisdom teeth out and none of the other possible causes.

Wisdom teeth?
OK well Im gettin my wisdom teeth pulled in about 2 weeks and I was wondering..what r some of the things that can happen while getting this done? This is my first surgery and I am so scared!! Everyone says there is nothing to worry about but I wanna make sure...
Wisdom teeth?
Hi,
Actually, I just got my wisdom teeth out today. I had four of them and the bottom ones were sideways.
For a month and a half, I was terrified of getting them out. It was my first surgery too.
I know what its like to be scared, I thought for sure I was going to die. I got sick just thinking about it.
But today I went in, and I promise you, all those hours worrying were wasted. They used general anesthesia on me and put me out, the only thing that hurt was the IV going in. The assistant said to me, "I'm going to take your parents into the waiting room again." "Ok." "You did great! Wanna see your teeth?" Nothing was hurting, I was just a little dizzy. It had only taken them half an hour, and I couldnt believe how easy it was. Its best to get them out when you're young, before they have roots, and the chances of complications are slim to none.
Trust me, this is coming from the world's biggest fraidy cat. You will be ok, its no problem at all. Good luck!
Reply:nothing can happen while its getting done....afterwards you should expect for your face to swell and you'll have alot of vicodon so it will be nice%26amp;hearts and relaxing so don't worry. also you can't eat for about 8 hours before your surgery and you can't eat until afew hours after wards and you have to eat soft foods for awhile. the holes where the wisdom teeth were won't bleed and they'll heal over time. your mouth heals faster than any other part on your body!!
Reply:don't eat ice cream my husband feed me that and I got so sick, it a wonder that I diden't get dry sockets from it. But Thank God I didn't. Just make sure they give you pain meds strong enough, and try and stay knocked out and or doped up for a few day that way you wom't be in pain or if you are you won;t know it. That worked for me!!! Reply:Going to sleep during the surgery is fine. I just had mine out two days ago, and everything went well. There aren't a whole lot of risks involved with this procedure, just relax and it will seem like two minutes have passed when you wake up. Follow your dentist's advice to a T and you should be fine. My dentist had me start my prescriptions a couple of days early to help with the swelling and risk of infection. Good luck!
Reply:There can always be complications with any surgery you undergo, but with the technology and doctors we have nowdays, getting teeth out is a pretty safe practice. I got mine done a few months ago. I'm 16. I was put under and came out of it just fine. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine as well. : )

Good Luck and God Bless You!!!

Wisdom teeth?
i may have to have all 4 wisdom teeth out, i am 23 and my mouth is really smal lso i have been thinkin how on earth will the surgeon get a good grip on my top ones to pull them out . i read on here about some1 having their jaw dislocated, is this common??? thanks!
Wisdom teeth?
people normally want to scare you when they tell stories like that. I used to be a dental nurse for 10 yrs before my kids came along and i gotta say i saw plenty of teeth (wisdom included) and never saw a jaw dislocated, don't panic and thing's will be fine, if it's too big a job for your dentist to do in his surgery he/she will refer you to your local hospital and they'll prob sedate you or give you an anaesthetic. sue xx
Reply:I had to have one of my wisdom teeth out, it was done by my regular dentist and it wasnt too much hassle. Maybe i was lucky.
Reply:I don't think that a properly qualified dental surgeon would dislocate a jaw with such a routine operation. Of course things can always go wrong but I would think it is rather rare.
Reply:Some people get it done with a local aenesthetic, but some people need a general. I think it's up to you and the dentist. I have all 4 of mine, cuzwhen I had my braces when I was younger, I had 4 teeth pulled out and so extra room was made for the wisdom teeth. I guess I was lucky in that respect.
Reply:No its not....my mouth is really small...but they have this intruments and place on your mouth so it can be the biggest that your mouth can go...and they will work with that....
and don't worry too much...and if your jaw gets dislocated juts sue!
Reply:I had all 4 taken out because they were impacted and I had a general anaesthetic in a hospital and i believe they broke the teeth and then pulled them out ( I believe this because I had a few shards left in which caused me problems and when I went back they let it slip that these would have been caused when they broke them) - how gross is that? But I am fit and well now and it is a dim distant memory but could explain why I had a week off work and looked like a hamster with green bruised cheeks
Reply:I had two out in hospital. not sure quite what they did as i was out cold however, I was bruised all over my face and chest. It looked as though someone had kneeled on my chest. I was sore for over a week.
Reply:They dont dislocate your jaw but it is stretched open to its limits. Had to have mine out as I had a small jaw, not enough room %26amp; wisdom teeth were impacted in the gum.
You may well have a general anaesthetic( or it could be local) %26amp; after the teeth are extracted you are likely to be bruised %26amp; swollen around your face %26amp; jaw area. It is quite painful but it settles after a while %26amp; is not nearly as bad as putting up with the pain from the teeth remaining as they are
Reply:I think that it is likely that the Dentist will have to put his foot on your chin and heave, but dont worry taking into account the extreme trauma you should be ok in about six months. I hope this makes you feel better.
Reply:Ouch babe, you having them out at only 23. You are usually under sedation when this is done and have to be in hospital to have it done. Dont worry about the procedure you should be asleep.
Reply:I'm sure that this is very rare, i had 2 removed and appart from a slight discomfort after it was fine. Just remember everyone is diferent, sometimes people like to make things sound worse than they are. Don't worry hon you will be fine.

Getting my wisdom teeth pulled out without sedation, only the top 2 tho. However, I have to go on a plane to Italy 3 days later haha, how much do you think I will be in pain and look like a chipmunk?

You should be ok. Take it easy for the few days you have before leaving. The doctor will give you pain meds to take. Make sure you follow the instructions that they give you so you will heal properly.
Reply:You'll be fine! Its not as bad as people make it out to be.

Any one had there wisdom teeth out with just a local anaesthetic, do you feel anything and is there much pain after
Wisdom teeth?
I've had two wisdom teeth out under LA, because alot of people have them out under a general, they think it must be really painful under LA. If a dentist thought for on second it would be difficult to take out or really uncomfortable for you they would just refer you to a clinic and let them do it!!!!!!!!!!!!
If its straight forward, its no more painful then having any other tooth out, once your numbed you won't feel a thing. But my advice to you is, before the LA wears off take a few pain killers, so they take effect, just in case. Good luck and don't worry.
Reply:I had one wisdom tooth taken out with just a local and the other three under a general anaesthetic, the only problem I had with the local is that you can hear the tooth cruch as the dentist pulls on it!
I had a lot of headaches afterwards but some strong ibuprofen works wonders
Reply:I did, they had to fit me in as an emergecny between someone else, I had anaesthetic, then him, then my teeth out, then his! It's a bit nasty as it all crunches a bit, but it didn't hurt at the time. It ached for a few days after, and I had to wash my mouth out with salted water for a few days- that's the worst part- it makes me gag- but it wasn't so bad considering, don't worry too much, the anticipation is the worst part.
Reply:No thank you very much. What sadist wants to just give you a local?
I had all 4 taken out under general anaesthetic in hospital.
Hurt like hell for a week until the stitches dissolved.
Reply:I had mine pulled and the dentist used a local anaesthetic. Afterwards I had a headache and took Tylenol for it. My jaws were somewhat sore and eating solid foods was a little difficult but that's to be expected.
Reply:I had one under local... and my doc was a fruit... he sang "Somehwere Over the Rainbow" Much pain afterword. I dont like taking pain meds like Tylenol or Ibuprofen, so I was a "male part name" to all my co-workers.

Your dentist will offer instructions on caring for your mouth after surgery, but general suggestions for self-care after a dental extraction include:
Apply cold compresses to reduce swelling
Take painkillers
Regularly hold a mouthful of warm salty water, but don't swish
Don't brush over the area for a day or two
Eat soft, easy to chew foods for the next few days.
Reply:I got all four of my wisdom teeth out, but they knocked me out completely before the operation. The worst part was just waiting for everything. After it was all over it felt wierd, but didn't hurt at all! Don't worry about it! Just relax and take the medecine they give you, then everything will work out. Good luck!
Oh, the doc will probably tell you how to clean everything and what to do after the operation. Follow all the directions and you'll feel as good as you did before in a few days!
Reply:yes , All mine with local, of course there will be pain of varying degrees depending uopn countless circum stances.
Sometimes if you are left with a "dry socket" , where the blood fails to clot , often the result of excessive use of local anaesthetic, then the pain can be excrutiating. It also can mean that the socket will regularly fill with waste food, with the potential for infection , bad smells and failure of the socket to close properly.
Its not all bad......you can go private!
Reply:you wont feel a thing but sometimes bit pain after but they will give you something for that dont worry about it you will be ok .might not get pain after not all people do i did but not bad pain .so dont let it worry you ,you will be fine, anne

I just got my wisdom teeth removed 5 days ago. How long does it take to heal? And also what should I be doing on the 5th day? One of them was pretty bad and that's the one that hurts alittle but not a bad pain. Also how long does it take the stitches to disolve?

gargle with a mixture of warm water, salt and baking soda.
The salt will help dry out close up any open rawness, and the baking soda helps keep it sanitary.
Reply:rinse with salt water
and you will heal fast
Reply:make sure you are doing what your doctor said...when i had my wisdom teeth pulled, they did a bad job stitching up the incisions and i ended up getting an infection. i am an avid tooth brusher and mouth cleaner but it still happens. that little water squirty thing should really be used b/c it will help clean out the back of your mouth.
for the pain, they're probably still swollen so if you take advil it should help reduce the swelling and reduce the pain as well.
also, rinse with salt water.
now that you're wisdomless, make sure you're reading and studying up ;) lol

Wisdom Teeth!!!!?
I have to get my wisdom teeth cut out next week, my dentist said they are bone impacted so im going to a specialist. He is going to put me to sleep, i am scared to death and i dont know what to expect the first few days after i have it done. Has anyone went through the same thing?
Wisdom Teeth!!!!?
Don't worry about it. It might seem scary at first, but once it's over, it's kind of like having a cold for a few days. The surgery part is cake, they just put you to sleep, and you wake up 3 seconds later done. You'll feel groggy, go home, lay down, and wake up later fine. They give you lots of meds for pain, so don't worry about that. Eating sucks for a while, you have to be careful cause it can get annoying.
Just watch movies, eat jello, and enjoy laying around. But seriously, don't worry about it. My were impacted also and had to be busted out. It's all easy.
Reply:You'll be sore in your mouth for a few days. I went to a specialist, and was "knocked out" as well. When I woke up, the teeth were gone and I was in a "recovery" room. Make sure you have someone to drive you home (depending on your age) and someone to make sure you do okay with household stuff in the evening.

p.s. Don't worry - it's a common procedure! Don't be too nervous about it.
Reply:It hurts. Make sure you have some straws and your favorite beverages/soups. He will probably give you antibiotics and pain medication. It will still hurt, but you will survive. Most people do.
Reply:yep. Plan on being in pain. You won't be allowed to drink from a straw and chewing will not be an option. I ate a LOT of KFC mashed potatoes and gravy, jello and pudding.
Reply:You'll be in pain and feel like crap, but you get to eat ice cream and pudding for a couple of days. Do not eat anything like noodles or oatmeal or anything that get inside where you had them removed. This can lead to a dry socket that is a hell of a lot worse than getting the teeth removed. Do not drink through a straw for a couple of weeks. The pressure of sucking through a straw is painful. Just be sure to take a 3 -4 days off work/school, take plenty of pain pills, and just take it easy and rest.
Reply:Please don't worry about this. I am a dentist and had all 4 wisdom teeth taken out under sedation. It is absolutely not a big deal. The sedation also contains an anti-inflamitory to promote quick healing. Take the pain meds and plan on not doing anything for 2 days, but you should be fine after a day or so. I was at a Couting Crows concert the next day. If you are young you will heal fast too and it will prevent so many problems/pains down the road. Have a wonderful surgery!!
Reply:I've had all 4 surgically removed at the same time. Not too big a deal. It will be painful and sore at first, just enjoy resting on your pain meds. Beware about sucking too hard, smoking, etc. I did get a dry socket in one of them (from smoking) and that makes the pain last longer. If you should have pain longer than the doc says, make sure to call him to check it out.
Good luck!
Reply:I had this done 8 years ago. It was great!! Te drugs they give you make you happy and forgetful. Make sure someone goes with you to listen to the surgeon's instructions because you will be out of it. My mom told me I kept repeating the same thing every five minutes. Pain is not bad during recovery, and nonexistent the first few hours.

Wisdom teeth?
I had my wisdom teeth removed about a week ago and I was suppose to get my monthly a day after the surgery, but I didn't. It's very possible I might be pregnant, what would the effects on the baby be? What are the risks? I also had a x-ray done.
Wisdom teeth?
If the x ray was on your mouth, youre fine there. The only thing I would wonder about is the pain pills you may be taking. Its probly nothing too big to worry about this early....but thats the only thing I can think of that might be a problem. But you wont be on those long. I wouldnt worry about it too much.
Just concentrate on getting healed up.

Wisdom teeth?
I'm 15. My dentist says my jaws are small and won't grow anymore, so the wisdom teeth must go away. The problem is they actually haven't grown yet and are still in the bone, not visible at all, so they have to be just cut out (can't find better expression:). I'd like to ask what does this "operation" looks like? Is there a dentist who could answer my question? Or has anyone experienced this? I'm seeing dentist cause of this soon and am terribly worried about it... HEEELP! :)
Wisdom teeth?
im 15 and i just got my wisdom teeth out a couple of weeks ago. i was so scared! but it really wasn't that bad. the night before, i had to use a special mouthwash and not eat or drink anything past midnight. we showed up and they asked if i had any questions then they put an iv in me and put some pain killer and some stuff that knocked my out. i don't remember anything. i woke up and we left. my entire mouth was numb and it was really annoying. i just went home and slept. you are sore for like a week then you are done. they stitch the holes up in your mouth and the stitches disolve within the next two weeks. i think most places make you clean the holes outwith a syringe fille with warm water once the stitches are gone and swish with special mouth wash they give you. at first use an ice pack on the outside of your mouth, it really helps, then after 7 days start using a heat pack. it really isn't that bad. you get to eat lots of ice cream and watch lots of movies and everyone does stuff for you.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth removed the same way at the same age. They basically make a small slit in your gum and exract the teeth...then stich it up!! It is a really common procedure and their is nothing to be worried about. The pain is really bad afterwords but they will give you medication and if you follow all the directions for cleaning and stay away from smoking and straws you won't get dry sockets.
Reply:They get cut of the gums. I had it done at 15 as well. It hurts like hell, but after about 10 days the pain is gone. You get put under so you don't know what is going on. They make a small incision in your gums and chip/take the wisdom teeth out. It was better than messing up my newly fixed bracelss teeth. And today my smile is straight. Don't worry about it, it is a routine surgery now for those of us with small jaws. It 's a pain in the butt, but it will be a good thing for your mouth.
Reply:Yes they are called "impacted." No big deal. I had all of mine surgically removed at one time. The oral surgeon will put you to sleep and cut the gum and remove them. Sew you back up. You'll be on an antibiotic for about 7-10 days and some pain meds. Almost everyone has their wisdom teeth removed so don't worry. You aren't going to be awake for it.
Reply:well, they put you to sleep or heavily sedate you (they give you the choice usually) and then they go in, make an incision, and pull the teeth out. Then they'll put a bunch of gauze in your mouth to absorb the blood, give you pain medication, and your on your way. Its hard to eat solid food for a few days, but it isn't that bad.
Reply:I am a lot older than you are and mine are growing in sideways because I did not take them out when recommended. I have to deal with a lot of pain and am also scared. I feel for you. Do it while you are young and can bounce back quicker.
Reply:My jaws are small too. But they removed my wisdom teeth when they grew. They grew little, so they had to cut out a bit too. Anyway, if you can take the anesthesia (kinda scary), that's all, you don't feel pain after wards. Nothing of the other world, don't worry
Reply:I was 15 when I had my wisdom teeth cut out (for lack of better phrase), I don't remember much about it, since the put me out, I do remember that I had to eat soft foods for the next week or so. But I also remember that when I was healed up, I felt better, my gums werent as sore as they were when my teeth was trying to come in.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 18. They put me under, made incisions, and extracted them. In my case, they did not sew them back up. They gave me a little syringe with a curved tip to fill with water and flush out the "pits" of any food that would get back there. The pain is fairly intense, but I'm sure they'll provide you with a prescription for a yummy narcotic like vicodin (hydrocodone). You'll be told to avoid straws and cigarettes becuse when you "suck" on things, it can pull out the little blood clots that are forming on your wounds, which of course prevents healing. You'll have puffy cheeks for a couple of days and some pretty foul breath! But then you'll heal up just fine and you'll be glad you had them out. It probably takes about 2 -3 weeks to heal up completely.
Reply:you will probably be put to sleep for that. maybe get a second opinion. I was told my wisdom teeth needed to be removed when i was 13 but I never did what they said. they eventually recently started coming in a little then they seemed to stop cause I'm very small and have a small jaw/mouth
but i have been told by a few dentists if they aren't removed one day an infection could develop.
my mom has all her wisdom teeth and my boyfriend has all his wisdom teeth still so i dont know
It doesn't really sound like it's an emergency situation. So take your time and think about it and maybe see a few more dentists. but every single dentist ALWAYS wants to take them out when people are young
Reply:I had that done, it's nothing they usually put you to sleep for it anyway
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out after they had fully grown in... They didn't need stitches just a local anesthetic. It's probably different from you'll experience though because they are still beneath the gums.
To take mine out, it felt like all they had to do was break up the tooth, apply a lot of pressure (bent it one way then the other) and then yanked them out.
I was 26 when they pulled them out.

Wisdom Teeth?
I had 4 wisdom teeth removed about 4 days ago. I have a really gross taste in my mouth now and it looks like the upper suture area is yellow. Is this normal? Also, when can I eat solid food again?
Wisdom Teeth?
call your oral surgeon with any concerns. You are paying them after all. The nasty taste is normal. I wouldn't rush the solid foods. You don't want to rip your sutures and have to have them re- done. I know it's annoying but be paitient.
Reply:I'm not sure about the yellow part. I started eating solids about 3 days after. Jello, mash potatoes, and macaroni/cheese are the best. It will fill funny eating for about two weeks. That is how it was for me.
Reply:sounds like yougot an infection call your dentist
Reply:Call them tomorrow. Also rinse your mouth with warm salt water - many times (not to much swishing) and clean that area gently with peroxide until they return your call.
You may need an antibiotic.
Reply:You should call the Doctor that removed them... sounds like they might be infected. When did you start to taste the "really gross taste"? It does not sound normal!
When I had my 4 wisdoms out, I remember eating a hot dog later that night. The sesame seeds got into the holes where the teeth were, I guess from the pressure of swallowing? Anyway, you can eat solid food as soon as you're comfortable and not in pain, is what my doc told me. Just be sure to use the water syringe to shoot out the debris that collects in the holes where the teeth were.
Reply:It sounds as though you may have an infection. Go back to the dentist ASAP.
Reply:Call your dentist because it might be an infection.
And I started eating solid food after I got the stitches out.
Good luck.

Wisdom teeth?
i just got all 4 impacted wisdom teeth out yesterday and have a few questions, when i came home i was spitting up blood. yes i know this is normal. but when i got out of bed this morning i had blood on my pajamas and pillow. is this ok? i wasnt swollen yesterday but i am a little bit today and care barely open my mouth. which is frustrating!! ive been putting ice on my mouth. is there anything else i should be doing? i'm not sure what to do about pain. i was given meds but it seems like whenever i take them i feel sick to my stomach and start throwing up. gonna try to call the dentist about that today, what kind of things can i eat and drink. ive only been eating ice cream and soup.
Wisdom teeth?
Yes, what you are experiencing is typical from the extractions. Today you can eliminate the ice, start using hot moist compresses on both jaws at the same time. While applying these start opening and closing your mouth, stretching a little wider each time. These jaw exercises help get the blood flowing back in the jaw muscles and help to regain the full function of your mouth much faster. We advise the moist heat and these exercises on "day 2" to all of our patients and most say they helped tremendously. Continue taking all medications given by your dentist and also add Motrin or Advil 600-800mg for inflammation and swelling (if you haven't already) about 2 hours after you take any pain medications. Don't forget the warm salt water rinses, several times a day, especially after you eat anything. This is to keep the socket areas free of food particles. The warm salt water is very soothing to the tissue. You can swish, just not too vigorously for another 2 days. Sounds like your doing fine, just keep up the good work and you'll be your normal self in another day or two. Good luck!
Additional information: Ice is used the first 24 hours for swelling, then moist heat is advised. Do the exercises with the moist heat and you'll see immediate relief. If your unsure about any instructions I've given you just talk with your dentist so he can reassure you.
Also be sure to eat a little something before taking any of the medications, they can really upset your stomach. Try some soup or even ice cream, pasta, mac and cheese, scrambled eggs, stuffed baked pot w/cheese, smoothies and any soft vegetables or beans that require very little chewing, milk is soothing and also coats the stomach, iced tea and juices just nothing with carbonation for a few days. Eat first and you'll feel much better with the medication. Anything else I can help you with just send an e mail. Good luck!
Reply:Yes DO call your dentist don't TRY to do it.
What you are experiencing is pretty normal, but still worth checking out.
I get sick from the pain meds after having teeth extracted too. Try ibuprofen (Advil) or naproxen (Alleve).
Do not take aspirin. It thins the blood and makes you bleed more easily.
You ARE going to be sore. The dentist yanked out four teeth that had their roots deep down in the jaw.
Avoid HOT things. They increase blood flow.
Do not drink with a straw. The suction can loosen the clots leaving you with dry sockets which are EXTREMELY painful.
For nutrition, try Boost or Ensure.
Reply:ok, dont spit or suck through a straw because the suction will cause the clots to come out and cause more bleeding. Bleeding at night is very normal. Eat only very soft foods, preferable liquid diet for a few days. Alternate ice and heat every 20 minutes the first day to prevent swelling. After the first day, there is nothing you can do for the swelling. You will probably feel sick to your stomach if you are swallowing alot of blood. You may also want to rinse with a one part listerine to 3 parts water mix to help prevent infection.
Reply:From my own experience the blood and swelling are normal. I had all of mine pulled about 6 months ago (1 surgically) and the only thing that really helped my pain was 600mg of Ibuprofen (with food of course). My dentist told me to take the pain meds, but they didn't help at all. I also rinsed my mouth with salt water, and this seemed to help slow the bleeding. As far as eating goes, I stuck with liquids the first two days and rinsed after every meal. I hope everything works out okay. Of course, it won't hurt to talk to your dentist.
Reply:Sounds like everything is going the way it should. There will be minimal blood from time to time...just make sure you don't do anything that would require a sucking motion ie. using a straw, spitting etc. this can cause ur mouth to bleed more. When ur sleeping, ur releasing a little bit of blood from ur mouth becuz u had (technically) 4 surgeries and arent swallowing the blood like u do throughout the day. Swelling will start to subside after day 3...tomorrow will probably be the most painful day for u cuz ur swelling will be at its peak. Keep eating liquidy foods, and keep drinking lots of cold fluids, try sucking on an ice cube (without actually sucking on it!). Best advice, rest! sleep as much as possible, this is when ur body heals itself...it may only seem like 4 teeth, but a surgery, regardless of the type, is a trama to the body and it needs to recover in its own way! Take care doll, you'll be feeling better soon!!! :)
Reply:so long as the stitches and or packing are all still in then you should be OK .
as for the pain medication try taking it with food put some crackers in your soup . you most likely will have an upset stomach from any medication that is powerful enough to treat the pain.
you can also take gravol . did he give you a sheet of instructions saying you could put a tea bag in your mouth over the spots . that's about it . try to tough it out on the pain medication unless he says he is going to give you something stronger because i know how painful this can be.
just be glad you wOKe up ok after the operation. i didn't spent 10 days in an awful state. i used a straw and i had carnation instant breakfast but rinse gently after each glass
Reply:you should not have blood all over. if it was a small amount or was diluted with saliva, you are probably ok. you just don't want to have the blood socket come loose. generally when it does, it feels like a hole there and is very painful. if the bleeding has stopped now and you don't have these symptoms, it is probably ok. have the dentist look at it if you are worried. if it is dry socket, they go open it back up so another blood socket will form. later, i recommed you get the cavitation done by a Biologic Dentist. the non-biologic dentists do not know to remove the periodontal ligament and it creates a cavitation by not allowing the bone to grow across and fill in the socket properly.

Bite on the gauze for about 30 minutes after your surgery. Do not bite too firmly, just enough to keep the gauze in place. After the blood clot forms it is important to protect it especially for the next 48 hours to avoid dry socket. Drainage for a few days is normal. To minimize swelling and bleeding, keep head elevated (use extra pillows when sleeping). You can brush your teeth the day of surgery. Avoid brushing the surgery site. Any stitches will come out on their own in a week
Rinse your mouth with warm salt water after meals and before bed. Begin a very gentle warm salt water rinses (1tsp. salt for every 8oz. of water). The first day or so, do not swish the water around in your mouth; Instead, move your head side to side to rinse. Do not spit; Let the water flow out of your mouth. If you are watching salt intake in your diet, you may substitute the salt water rinse with a peroxide and warm water rinse. Use a 50/50 peroxide and water solution
NO smoking for 2 days
NO drinking through a straw for 2 days
NO mouthwash for a week
NO excessive spitting
NO vigorous rinsing for at least 48 hours after your surgery
AVOID alcoholic beverages
AVOID greasy foods
AVOID high acidic foods and drinks such as tomatos, orange juice, etc....
DO NOT over exert yourself. It is ok to ride in a car or on a plane
For Pain:
Advil (Ibuprofen) or Aleve (Naproxin Sodium) or Extra-Strength Tylenol (Acetaminophen). Take with food. NO aspirin or aspirin products
For Swelling:
Place an ice bag on side of face where your surgery was, for 30 minutes on, then 30 minutes off. Repeat for 6 hours. After 48 hours, use warm compresses as needed for swelling
Eat soft foods. No chips, pretzels, peanuts, etc.... Stay away from crunchy, chewy or small hard foods, to avoid food particles becoming lodged in the socket. Suggested foods are clear broth, pasta, potatoes, yogurt, baby food, smoothies, pudding, cream of wheat, 7up, Ginger Ale, apple juice

CAVITATIONS
A cavitation is an unhealed hole in the jawbone caused by an extracted tooth [or a root canal or an injury to a tooth]. Since wisdom teeth are the most commonly extracted teeth, most cavitations are found in the wisdom tooth sites. Please see the graphic and photo below to get a glimpse of what may be in your mouth and the effects it is having. The photo and diagram demonstrate the destructive and pathologic consequence of a routine tooth extraction. Dentists are taught in dental school that once they pull a tooth, the patient's body heals the resulting hole in the jawbone. However, approximately 95% of all tooth extractions result in a pathologic defect called a cavitation. The tooth is attached to the jawbone by a periodontal ligament which is comprised of "jillions" of microscopic fibers. One end of each fiber is attached to the jawbone and the other end of the fiber is attached to the tooth root. When a tooth is extracted, the fibers break midway between the root and the bone. This leaves the socket (the area where the root was anchored in the bone) coated with periodontal ligament fibers.
There are specialized cells in the bone called osteoblasts. Osteoblasts make new bone. The word "osteoblast" means bone former. They are active during growth and maintenance. However, the periodontal ligament prevents the osteoblasts from filling in the tooth socket with bone since the periodontal ligament fibers lining the socket act as a barrier beyond which the osteoblasts cannot form bone. In other words, an osteoblast "sees" a tooth when it "sees" periodontal ligament fibers. Since there are billions of bacteria in the mouth, they easily get into the open tooth socket. Since the bone is unable to fill in the defect of the socket, the newly formed "cavitation" is now infected. Since there is no blood supply to the "cavitation" it is called "ischemic" or "avascular" (without a blood supply). This results in necrosis (tissue death). Hence we call a cavitation an unhealed, chronically infected, avascular, necrotic hole in the bone. The defect acts to an acupuncture meridian the same way a dead tooth (or root canal tooth) acts. It causes an interference field on the meridian which can impair the function and health of other tissues, organs and structures on the meridian. Significantly, the bacteria in the cavitation also produce the same deadly toxins that are produced by the bacteria in root canals (see Root Canals). These toxins are thio-ethers (most toxic organic substance known to man), thio-ethanols, and mercaptans. They have been found in the tumors in women with breast cancer.

Wisdom teeth?
I've had my wisdom teeth removed this past Thursday, so one week ago today. All four were impacted. Does anyone know how long the healing process is? The right side of my face feels fine while the left side is a little sore and just doesn't feel right. Yesterday one of the stitches fell out and this morning I was coughing pretty bad and looked in my mouth and noticed a little bleeding on one of them. The doctors office said the stitches sometimes fall out, but I have not asked about the bleeding. How long does it take to heal so you don't have to worry about a dry socket? Does the bleeding mean the healing process has been messed up? Any other advice or thoughts?

dry socket happens usually within 48-72 hours after surgery.so you pass the treat.and it has a very bad pain and a bad taste in mouth.soft tissue healing process would be complete in 10 days but our bone takes more time.
Reply:The healing process takes about a good 2 weeks. Make sure you continue to take your antibiotics.
Reply:I think is about one-two weeks......
Reply:ahhh Man I'm going through the same thing, It's been 2 weeks already for me and still going through the same thing already had a refill on my painkiller and antibiotics. It could be like the oral surgeon told me I'm a slow healer so some people take more time than others, Good Luck, hope you feel well soon
Reply:Just take a couple Excedrin every 4 hours for pain and swish with 3 percent hydrogen peroxide it assists greatly in healing mouth soreness.
It is cheap and next to alcohol in most all pharmacies.
Reply:I got mine out on tuesday, and ive missed school 3 days so far, including today. Damn, its pretty discouraging hearing that I wont be healed for at least a week.
My face is still huge. Just keep icing it, and wash your mouth with salt water.
