Wisdom teeth?

I am getting my wisdon teeth pulled tomorrow at 1:00. How much pain are you in afterwards, and how long does it take for the pain to go away, and the swelling to go down? I am terrified about tomorrow. =[

Wisdom teeth?
It all depends on the person. I was swollen for several days and in major pain whereas my husband ate Easter dinner 3 days after his surgery. It also depends if the teeth are embedded in the bone and how much is involved in the surgery. You will be fine just take the pain meds and be sure to follow the surgeons post op instructions you do not want a dry socket it is the worse pain and they would have to go back in and scrape the bone to get rid of it.
Reply:Don't be scared, your nerves will make it worse on you. It is pretty painful I am not going to lie to you. I would take a motrin before you go in for the swelling and pain so it is not so bad, but call your dentist in the morning to make sure you can do that..... and he will give you meds after also. BUT make sure u ask the dentist BEFORE you go if you can take a motrin first.

Good luck u will be fine
Reply:dont be terrified most wisdom teeth extractions are easier than patients think, most of the time that you are inthe chair you are just getting numb, mostly the whole visit!!when the dentist takes out your wisdom teeth it will be a matter of minutes compare to the time it takes to get you numb...if your are that worried ask your dentist if you can have sweet air(laughing gas)they should be more than happy to give you that to calm your nerves because of the procedure and it will help relax you and help make you less nervousswelling willl go down in about a week or less, ask for a good painkiller so you wont be in pain it will be very mild with the painkillers, take ibprophen too if you need to, which you will get so you will be fine, i work will an oral sugeon and do alot of wisdom teeth extractions all day, hang in there you will be fine, take care...
Reply:I had 4 wisdom teeth and a molar pulled, but I was in a special hospital that did, oral surgery, and well anyway, the pain is not that bad, as they give you pain medication, but you will be swollen for a couple of days, and after about one week, you should be fine. The day you have them done, when you get home, have a chocolate soda, or milkshake, as that will help with your swelling, drinking something cold. No worries, you will do just fine..........................
Reply:had all of mine pulled, and was knocked out for both, not gonna lie to you it is gonna hurt but they will usually give you something for pain when you leave the dentist's office fill the Rx and things will be ok but listen to the instructions they give you, pain should go away in 2 days but remember diferent people have different tolorances for pain, swelling depends on how impacted they are and how much they have to dig for the tooth
Reply:You'll survive. If given the choice, ask to be totally knocked out rather than get a local anesthetic. The worst case is if they are impacted, which is when they actually are growing sideways toward the rest of your teeth. I had this, and they had to cut the teeth into quarters to get them out. The other problem I had was that my top wisdoms had the roots poking up into my sinuses. Because it left holes in my gums into my sinuses, I couldn't blow my nose or even allow myself to sneeze, otherwise I would have blown the holes open before they healed and the would have become permanent!

The worst part of any operation is enduring the pain until it heals. I'm sure you'll get a prescription of painkillers. Just keep it clean as directed by the Dr. The worst thing that can happen is to get an infection, so follow the Dr's orders to the letter.
Reply:Well first of all I'm just gonna tell ya, everyone's different but this is how things went for me. Don't be terrified it takes maybe 45 minutes to get them out(but mine were cut not pulled). The pain went away I'd say 4 to 5 days after I had the surgery. And to tell you the truth i didn't swell at all. Just after you've had the surgery keep the gauze in til you stop bleeding, keep ice on your face, this is on the first day. Don't eat ANYTHING that requires chewing. Keep the pain meds in your system! It really helps and make sure you have eaten something before you take it. So you don't vomit. 2nd day keep a warm moist wash cloth or hand towel on your face. St ill dont eat anthing that requires chewing that much. Still keep up with the pain meds or it WILL hurt. I'm not trying to scare you I'm just telling you what my doctor told me. 3rd day: Again w/ the ice(this will help w/ swelling and/or pain). On the 3rd is when you can start eating a little more that reqires a little more chewing. Pain meds of course. 4th day you can eat some stuff that requires chewing like your normal, everday diet(like before your surgery). And if you have any more pain meds i would suggest to keep taking them til gone(not all at once). If you dont have more and your still in pain take ibeprofin, aleve, advil some sort of pain relief. 5th day for me was like a normal day. Hope this helps you out! Hope everything goes well! Don't be scared you'll be alright.
