Wisdom Teeth?

Im getting mine out next week and im scared as ever.

plus i just hate the regular dentist.. yeah its weird

I'm not getting an i.v because i hate needles, i had to get 4 blood test before.

so there giving me drugs, which my mom says will make me feel drunk, laughing gas and novacaine or whatever.

Anyone ever gotten their teeth out like that or with out the i.v that has advice or a way to calm me down?

Wisdom Teeth?
Get the IV. I had my wisdom teeth out. They gave me pills to make me sleepy before the IV went in. I didn't even know it was happening. I was totally asleep. Then, the IV was out before I woke up. You won't even know you had an IV other than the band-aid. I wouldn't want to be awake for getting my wisdom teeth out. It was bad enough without knowing what was going on while it was happening.
Reply:all of my friends have done it w/o an i.v. i hate i.v.s, i had one when i was 4 that was like the size of my arm.

but yea...getting ur teeth out doesnt hurt, its the pain the comes afterwards thats scary
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth pulled without any sedation, just local anesthetic, and it wasn't too bad. However, I did have one tooth that was impacted and they had to split it, and I hadn't had enough anesthetic for that, because it hurt like a mother f**ker, and of course I got a dry socket in it and had to go back to get it treated. But other than that, it was fine. Oh, and my dentist was psycho and offered to let me SEE MY TEETH after they had been pulled. I was just like "Oh, hell no, you can keep 'em!".
Reply:man if i were you i would get the I.V especially if you hate dentists...because getting your wisdom teeth out is probably something you dont want to be awake for pain or no pain...i got an I.v and i think it made my wisdom teeth coming out go smooth...just feels like youre sleeping and it feels like you were only out for a minute before they wake you back up
Reply:I had all 4 of mine taken out at the same time when I was 17. Being put under will be the way to go so you won't feel a thing. I wasn't put under and it was bad. Just make sure you stick to the aftercare instructions so you don't get dry sockets. Also, buy some jello, pudding, soups, etc before hand because you won't be able to eat regular food for the first few days. This is common so you will be fine.
Reply:Just dont think about it. It will not hurt, i have not had mine out but there are a few people i know who have had them take out and they have said that they are not sore.
Reply:Try %26amp; relax before you go to the dental office.

Then take the drugs %26amp; go to sleep. Then when it's over take more drugs for the pain.

Good luck.
Reply:It's really no big deal. The back of your mouth will feel a bit tender for a few days, but it goes away quickly. Eat ice cream and drink cool drinks... that will make it feel much better!
Reply:when i had my Wis. teeth out the doctor put me to sleep i never felt a thing! then he gave me a script for pain pill for a couple of days! you got nothing to worry about!!
Reply:Don't worry, you will be fine.

When my wisdom teeth got pulled, I got "Dry Socket", which was a very painful complication of the surgery. However, very few people come down with this, and I only did because I had a reaction to the anesthetic. I threw up and dislodged the blood clots that were in my tooth sockets, exposing the bone.

You should know that most people don't get this, and you will likely be back to normal within a week or less. Good luck!
Reply:I haven't, but I've had oral surgery twice. If they offer it, watch a movie, or bring your cd player/ipod. It sounds weird, but tell yourself stories or recite lines from a speech or a favorite movie or something in your head. Just keep yourself distracted from what is going on in your mouth! It helps!
Reply:ya i got my wisdom teeth removed. i was fully asleep when they removed them. and yes you do feel like you are drunk when they are done. but i really dont remember much of that day. dont worry you will be fine. you wont feel anything. trust me. its not bad at all. and they give you painkillers so it there wont be an afteraffect.

dont stress out about it its a very minor surgical procedure. just dont get nervous and be calm. think of happy thoughts right before you get in okay. well i wish you the bext of luck and oh you wont be able to chew for like the frist 2/3 days..... well unless if you force yourself to eat. haha

And have a laugh. Make sure that you laugh every day!
Reply:You'll be fine. Since you already had 4 blood tests, what is the big deal about another needle for the IV? They gave me something called "brevitol" or something like that. I was out for an hour, while they dug 3 impacted wisdom teeth out of my bone. We're not talking about pulling them, they were stuck in the bone. I felt completely normal when I woke up. Then I put ice packs on my jaws for about 8 hours straight. The next day I ran into someone I knew and she asked me why I didn't have my wisdom teeth out. I had no swelling or pain whatsoever. You do have to be careful though about what you eat while you're healing. When they warn you about acid foods like tomatoes and bananas, they really mean it. All of this happened 35 years ago, so you can imagine how much better things will be for you today.
Reply:I had them removed without I.V. Sorry I can't give you any advice that'll calm you down. It was one of the most horrible experiences EVER (and it had nothing to do with the fact that it was with novocaine and not the I.V.) the recuperating process sucks!!!

What you CAN do is suggest to your dentist that he/she "breaks" the wisdom tooth with the drill and extract small pieces instead of trying to remove the whole piece. The pressure applied to the area is much less traumatic, and less uncomfortable

Good luck, try to relax and not bite your dentist (I did!! Unconsciously...). It'll be over soon
Reply:I had to have mine pulled a few years ago, but they ended up having to "cut" them out. I didn't have an I.V., and it went smooth without any problem. They give me 3 pills though before to take about an hour before. (they were valium) and it helps calm your nerves and relaxes you. The pulling itself doesn't hurt and it shouldn't bother you at all. The afterwards does have some pain, but your dentist should give you some pain med's to take to help you out with that. It's not too bad. You may have to take the pain med's for a couple of days, but after about 2 days, you should be good as new...Hope this helps you a little.
Reply:No I.V. Not needed. No one enjoys having wisdom teeth removed. It has to be done. Nitous oxide and nova caine is all you need. Nitrous causes a disorientation (time lapse response). You can bear it-those of us that have wisdom teeth removed got through it.

Be sure and follow your dentists instructions after removal-very important.
Reply:I was put to sleep when i had all of my wisdom teeth taken out . I did not feel anything and i had to watch what i ate and drink for about a week.

you will be fine and good luck too you.
Reply:Well I didn't have the i.v. test. It wasn't nearly as bad as what people think. I didnt even know that put the shot in. They sray something very very cold on your arm and put the shot in. When I got knocked out, it felt like I have been sleeping just for a few minutes. They said I have been out for half an hour. After I got home, I was miserable. But day after day it got better. I didn't want the laughing gas because I was afraid I'd act goofy. They said I started to say things, that I didn't even remember. I'm very embarressed. I think the worst part is after you get home. You will be fine. Just do what the dentist says. In a few days your cheeks will be so puffy, you will look like a squirrel with his mouth full. Don't worry, I was so nervous before the surgery I almost threw up. You will do just fine.
