Wisdom Teeth?

I think I have only 3. The past few years they will come in a little (it doesn't necessarily hurt, it's just kind of annoying to my gum and the side of my mouth) and then it will go away after a week or so. I'm having that problem right now...sooo...just wondering, why they keep coming in a little by little? it's been like this for YEARS. I'm 21 now. Also, is it normal for it to hurt the side of your mouth? or does that mean it's really far over on your gum line? does everybody have to get them pulled? I'm not having major probs with them but will I later......? sorry so many q's

Wisdom Teeth?
i have only 3 too. the first 2 came out fine but the third is growing at an angle n i just had it removed this morning, as it is pushing on the adjacent tooth giving me pain, and infection from food trapped in the raised flap of gum it caused. i am 25.

your symptoms are all normal. my wisdom teeth all take a few years to fully grow out. better to consult a dentist to take an x ray to see if extraction is necessary.

by the way, it is not painful :)
Reply:I would have them looked at by your dentist... He/she will take x-rays to evaluate them.

Not everyone has to have them removed... It is possible to have only 3... Some of the problems that can arise later all depend upon what the outcome of the clinical evaluation of them is (need to get in there and see + x-rays)... Least problem possible, tough to brush... Greatest problem, infection...
Reply:I don't know about the pain, but I do know that I have all of my wisdom teeth and they don't bother me at all. Some people only have them pulled if they start hurting or cramping up your mouth. Often times if you get a cavity in them, the dentist will suggest pulling it...but I'm such a wimp I just opted to fill it. The only long term problem I think you may have would be with the pain...if it's been bothering you for years I don't think that will ever stop bugging your gums.

Wisdom teeth?

I just got all four of mine removed, are there any tricks you know to reduce swelling and speed the healing process? thx!

Wisdom teeth?
The night of the surgery it is OK to ice your cheeks for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. After that, however, you should not use cold compresses. The cold will decrease blood flow to the area, and actually slow the healing process. Your body is sending immune system anti-infection and healing cells to the area to help you get through the process. Taking an anti-inflammatory pain-killer like ibuprofen on a very regular basis over the next few days will help immensely. If you are a healthy young adult, 800mg of ibuprofen every 6 hours will help you remain in only slight discomfort and in a state of as little swelling as is possible. Do not use ice after the first 24 hours of the surgery. Good luck. You will get through it.
Reply:jell-o. . .it works =]
Reply:I was told to put ice on it, twenty minutes on, twenty off. I didn't, and I looked like John Goodman for a week.
Reply:Yes. Pack your jaw with ice for about 12 hours now. If you don't have an icepack that goes around your jaw try to improvise with the kind of gel packs that can be molded into a shape of some kind. Meanwhile, you can wraps frozen peas around your jaw. (In the future tell people to buy the ice head wrap pack from zip-n-squeeze.com.)

Next, take some bromelein extract capsules (sold at GNC and health food stores). Avoid tomatoes, bananas and always follow your oral surgeon's instructions. I had all 4 out 35 years ago, with no swelling.

Now I am caring for my stepson who just had a Leforte 3 (jaw reconstruction surgery).

Wisdom teeth...?

About how much is it out of pocket (no insurance) to get them removed in Eastern Washington State. I know it's impossible to give an exact answer, that's not what I'm looking for. Just a guess :-)

Wisdom teeth...?
it cost me 900 dollars to get mine out.

this was 3 years ago.

i am in massachusetts.

this is with being put to sleep!

hope this helps!

:)
Reply:An extraction is rather expensive. I was put to sleep and they removed two teeth on the same side it cost me about 100.00 but insurance paid for the other grand. You sould try to look into going to a dental school for the extraction, it will be a hell-of-a lot cheaper if you plan on paying out of pocket.

Wisdom Teeth?

How much does it cost(without insurance) to get them removed? Is it safe just to let them come through on their own?

Wisdom Teeth?
It depends on where you live. Try going to a dental school and they won't charge much or anything at all. My wisdom teeth have already come in but i got to take them out too. Because twice a year they hurt like hell. Anyway , it would be considered as oral surgery and it might go up to 300-500 dollars . Depends on if you if live on the west coast where everything is expense or some rural town. But i would try a dental school first. Or you can call 1.800. dentist and see if they have a sliding scale depending on your income.
Reply:If your teeth aren't hurting -- just let them come in. It's not always necessary to remove them.
Reply:like more than a 1,000 dollars
Reply:Its considered surgery they usually put you in a twi-light sleep state to remove them. That's what they did to me. You wake up with wades of cotton in your mouth and they tell you your done. It's very expensive.....about $4-5000K.....probably. Price it through a oral surgeon....that's the doctors that perform the operation, they will probably tell you that you have to be evaluated first.

Not removing wisdom teeth that are coming in crooked can cause allot of problems...especially if their half way erupted and sideways, they could stay that way if theres not enough room in your mouth (which was my case) they cause really bad pain in your ear and down your arm, headaches, bad breathe, and ear infections.
Reply:You don't need them removed...only if your dentist says they need to come out.
Reply:around $1,700.00

you can just let them grow in on their own but you should check with a dentist first.
Reply:They should only come out if they're causing problems like pain. When I got mine out, I had insurance. but they didn't pay. It was around $1500. That was for all 4 of them though.
Reply:Its safe but you may have pain they tend to rot because they have no enamel I'm gonna get mine pulled in a month from now. The cost is $137.00 per tooth if they are all ready through the gums I dont Know the cost if they have to cut them out. Good Luck
Reply:If your wisdom teeth aren't hurting then it should be ok to leave them, as I know people who have done that. But its best to speak to your dentist and to at least get a full mouth x-ray done as you want to make sure there are no problems with how they are growing.
Reply:Plenty of people have their wisdom teeth; you only have to have them removed if they're hurting you or doing damage to your other teeth. If you do have them removed it'll probably cost you more than $1000 if you're uninsured. (I had two of mine out a couple of years ago and although I only paid about $100, my insurance covered another $1100.) You can also have one or two teeth removed if they bother you and leave the others be.
Reply:Wisdom teeth have the potential of causing a whole mess of problems, including impaction, pain, gum infection, crooked teeth, and cysts. It's best to have them removed.

You are looking at about $175-300 per tooth. Some docs are willing to negotiate a payment plan if you put down some sort of deposit.

The good news is that it takes a long time for them to come in, so you have time to save some money or get insurance.

Good luck :o)
Reply:As long as they are not pushing the other teeth out of alignment and you are not having problems or pain (other than the normal pain from cutting teeth) then it is OK to let them come in and leave them. I am not sure of the cost but I do know it can vary depending on if there are complications (like being impacted or if the root has started to grow into the bone). The only time I know of that they would want to remove them if they aren't causing a problem would be sometimes with braces. I had mine removed at 16 as soon as they started to come in because the doctor said otherwise when they came all the way in it could push the teeth out of alignment and defeat the purpose of having worn braces.
Reply:Somewhere between $400-$450/tooth. They might not come out on their own especially if there is no space for them to erupt. And if left alone, they can develop a cyst. Some won't, but if you want to leave them alone make sure your dentist checks them regularly with an x-ray to make sure no cyst develops. It might be more cost effective long term to just have them removed.

Wisdom teeth?

how long would it take before i felt back to normal? i want to get it done thursday but i need to be to work on saturday would that be possible thanks

Wisdom teeth?
Some people are back to normal the next day and others take a week. I went back to work 2 days after I had my wisdom teeth pulled - but I have the kind of job where I sit at a desk and don't have to talk much, so it worked out. Also, I had to stop taking the pain medication because usually they give you some strong medicine that you can't drive while taking. So, if you have a desk job and are willing to stop taking the prescribed pain medicine, then you would probably be ok, but not great on Saturday.
Reply:a few days at most...its not that bad
Reply:Yeah, it will be ok, I think! 2 days are needed to heal from this :)...You may be slightly swollen for 1 week...but very slightly!
Reply:It actually depends on how many you need to have pulled, how they've grown in (if they've grown in at all) and also how old you are. Sounds funny, but any dentist will tell you that the longer you wait, the worse it will be.... so the older you are, the worse it will be. Mine were already growing out and I was 18, so I bounced back as soon as I stopped bleeding. My husband on the other hand, waited until they were rotting away and he is almost 30 and a few months later, still has some numbness in his upper jaw.

I don't mean to scare you.... just stating the facts. Good luck! Hope yours goes smooth like mine!
Reply:It differs for different people. It also depends on whether or not the teeth were impacted or just in the way. Also, everyone's bodies react differently to medical procedures.

I felt fine the next day after I had mine out, but my brother was in a lot of pain, had a lot of swelling and took about four days to recover.

Most people I know have recovered in 2-3 days.
Reply:if you have a good dentist you will be fine to go back to work on saturday. I had two of mine pulled (one at a time) and honestly, I felt much better the next day. The spot will be sensitive for a while, and you won't be able to chew on that side. I went back to work the next day after both of mine.
Reply:You should be ok, just make sure you bring your salt water, gause, tylenol, and try to be as antisocial as possible. Usually a person has bad breath until the wounds heal in the back, but make sure to swish with salt water every time you eat to minimize it.
Reply:It depends a lot on how you take care of yourself afterwards. I had all of mine removed before they started coming it. They put me on some different pills for pain and infection. I had penicillin(sp?) pills so it didnt get infected. Me being the kind of forgetful person I am, only took about 2 the first 3 days(i was supposed to take 4 a day) and ended up getting it infected and inflamed around my stitches and where they cut into my gums. that caused me a lot more pain and recovery time than if I had taken better care of myself. So If they give you pills to prevent infection, be sure to take them and you should be fine.

Wisdom Teeth?

What can I do to help the situation? They are coming through right now, or trying to. It is hurting like the dickens.

Wisdom Teeth?
Take anti inflammatory medication. 1 tab is equal to 2 hours of pain relief. 4 tabs would be like a prescription level, but only every 8 hours and not on an empty stomach. Aleve is less medicine to have to take. Usually only 2 tabs for the whole day. Take one morning and night.

You have to see your dentist. He needs an xray to see how they are coming in and how developed the root system is. Get them out. Don't put it off. Don't suffer for a long time, it's not worth it. Even if the pain goes away, most likely it will come back.
Reply:Go see your dentist and get a referal for an oral surgeon. He can advise you....Good luck hope this helps.
Reply:Go see your dentist. If you need help paying for the costs check the site out below.

Good luck
Reply:Check with your dentist. Pain and swelling around your wisdom teeth indicate that they're causing problems. Whether or not you have any symptoms, x-rays will show whether there's infection or whether your teeth are impacted -- that is, if there's no room for them to erupt through the gum.

Even if you don't have pain or swelling, your dentist may recommend that you get your wisdom teeth removed early on. The main reason is that recent studies show that wisdom teeth are linked to a higher rate of chronic bacterial infection in the gums, and can endanger the health of both the back and front teeth -- even if the patient feels no symptoms at all.

A study of 329 patients who had intact wisdom teeth, for example, found that even though the participants had no symptoms of discomfort, there was still evidence of disease-causing bacteria around their wisdom teeth. In fact, the study authors, who published their report in a recent issue of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, concluded that gum disease in young adults often begins around the wisdom teeth.

If impacted wisdom teeth are not addressed, the following may occur:

Teeth Shifting: Wisdom teeth may cause a shift in surrounding teeth and cause pain.

Bone Loss and Jaw Expansion: Wisdom teeth may play a role in bone loss and expansion of the jaw.

Congestion: Wisdom teeth may contribute to sinus congestion and headaches.

Cysts and Tumors: Wisdom teeth may be factor in bone destroying tumors or cysts, including cyst formation in the surrounding gum tissue.

Gum Tissue Irritation: Gum tissue surrounding impacted wisdom teeth tends to be more susceptible to gum irritation. If wisdom teeth become crooked and not fully erupted, it may be difficult to clean the gums.

Periodontal Pockets, Cavities and Bone Loss: Difficulty cleaning gums makes it easy for debris to be lodged and creates the perfect setting for bacteria. The resulting bacteria may produce periodontal pockets, create cavities, and lead to bone loss.

Changes in Orthodontia and Dentures: For children and the elderly, erupted wisdom teeth may create unique problems by affecting the results of orthodontia or undermining the functionality of dentures.

It's also easier to remove the teeth when you're younger, because the jawbone is less dense and the tooth's root is not yet fully developed, according to American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Wisdom Teeth?

I don't know what they are. Not everyone might call them that I don't know. But mine apparently are coming in. ITS PAINFUL!!! Very painful. What is there I can do to reliever at least a little bit of the pain? Oraljel? Any recommendations will be appreciated.

Wisdom Teeth?
Wisdom teeth are supposedly, or at least if my information is correct, de-evolved back teeth that has been with us since the dawn of man. Since it is growing within the jaw and there is no room for it to grow pass your emerge-back teeth. It instead moves sideways and presses against your back teeth of both upper and lower jaws. Un-removed wisdom teeth can cause great pain and oral diseases if not treated soon in your adult years. There is no pain reliever. You have to get it removed.

Just yesterday, I just had my wisdom teeth removed. It is weird (which takes only about 30-35 minutes for me) and a little painful after the surgery (still hurts but is not as bad as it was several hours ago) but it is worth it. My brother went through the same thing and he recovered very well after about a month. I can't guarantee if the procedure is pain free or cheap but whatever you want to be rid of your wisdom teeth or not is up to you. Try consulting a doctor if you have any questions or need more information about it.
Reply:Try taking any pain reliever to start.

You might need to go to your dentist to make sure your wisdom teeth are coming well posisioned, because if they are coming out tilted or (just not straight in general) they might affect the teeth you already have. Your dentist will likely sugests you to have your wisdom teeth removed. is not necesary, but because they are a little harder to reach 100% perfect hygene might be hard to accomplish; that would later give you more problems.

once they are out (and straight) try to keep them as clean as possible.
Reply:Wisdom teeth (3rd molars) were important to humans thousands of years ago when we needed to chew tougher foods. Since our diets have become more refined, we don't need those extra chewing teeth, and our jaws have become smaller (evolution...controversial word nowadays!), sort of like when we stopped needing tails!

The pain you're having is most likely from an infection, please see your dentist for referral to an oral surgeon.
Reply:it's naturally painful, coz there's a little space on ur gums..

i already have 2 wisdom teeth..and it takes months before it actually comes out whole :) my 1st wisdom teeth took 8 months before it really became a molar..then the 2nd one, it's still coming out of my gums, for its 3rd month..

i didn't take any medicine for that... i could bear the pain. .but to u, if it's untolerable, ask ur dentist on what medicine u should take to lessen the pain... don't just buy from drugstore without asking him, it might cause an infection :)

Wisdom teeth?

has anybody had them removed?

if so what was it like?

I have to get mine removed and i dont know what to expect!!

Wisdom teeth?
I had to remove mine because one was growing sideways and pushing my other teeth painful... they couldnt just pull it out they had to cut a hole in the side of my gum to pull it out that way.. but dont worry there is hardly pain because they numb it before. You will have a big hole there for about a week and you cant eat or get anything in there or you will be in pain u will eat soup or jello or drink ensure. good luck
Reply:I got mine removed around Christmas time last year. When i went into the office i was freaked out, but before i knew it i woke up and my wisdom teeth were out (i don't even remember falling asleep). Then there is some gauze that has to stay in your mouth for a few days, the worst part is having to change those. It barely hurts with the medicine they give you so don't worry about unbearable pain. And i got to eat ice cream and apple sauce for three days straight. And the empty spaces in your gums (where the teeth were) should heal in a few weeks. So all in all it's not that bad.
Reply:They'll knock you out so don't worry. When you wake up it will be over and they'll give you some pills to keep you happy for a few days. It'll be fine. Try to relax.

Wisdom teeth?

At what age do they come through and what's all this that it hurts a lot? what does it feel like?

Wisdom teeth?
It varies!

They can start coming through from the teens but may not appear until your 20's. Some people dont even realise they have them coz they come throught so easily. Others have probs coz there is no enuf room for them to come through.

It is impossible to generalise.
Reply:You'll soon find out what pain is when they start coming through
Reply:Yeah they hurt. Get the painkillers ready
Reply:It hurts some but it really isnt that bad
Reply:Mine started coming through when I was 17. And they really really really hurt. It is like a throbbing sore pain. I had to have 3 taken out. And have stitches over the hole. The other one has been trying to come through for 4 years. Sorry to scare you.......
Reply:I've had mine since I was 17 - most people don't have all 4 until they're 25 or so.

They're uncomfortable, but not horribly painful. (It's like a headache - take a little Motrin or something.) It does hurt when food gets caught behind them or they get impacted - that's why it's a good idea to have them taken out before you're 30.
Reply:i didnt feel mine coming through at all! only when the dentist said it needed to come out, i told her to leave it where it is!
Reply:It's different for everyone. Some have no problems, doesn't hurt at all, some it does hurt. And it's usually up to the dentist advice of whether they come out or not. The age's vary, my friend was 16 when she had her's removed but I've known people in their 20's that have had them removed. I'm 23 and I still have my wisdom teeth.
Reply:its like a numb sharpish pain. mine have been trying to come through for a very long time now and still not completely through
Reply:It all depends, I am 23 and only my bottom set are through but even they still haven't come through completely, a friend of mine who is 21 is having the same prob. The worst part with it is that food keeps getting stuck down them which is gross! The pain isn't too bad really.
Reply:My wisdom teeth didn't cause me a lot of problems when they did appear, but because my teeth were overcrowded I had 4 perfectly healthy teeth removed to make way for them, which wasn't pleasant. My wisdom teeth came through on the bottom set a couple of years later when I was about 16, and the other 2 came through a year or so after that. I can't remember them really hurting, but if I hadn't had the others removed first I might have had terrible problems.
Reply:remove them completly before they start hurting, ive done it and i have never regreted it
Reply:They don't necessarily come through. Mine did - on e by one. It was very painful and stressful having them out - sorry!! But other people never get them.
Reply:Wisdom teeth can start coming through from the ages of 18-25, they dont normally cause to many problems unless you get an infection which is called periocoronitis, and this usually accurs when the tooth starts erupting and you have a falp of gum around the tooth which likes to collect food debris, as the wisdom teeth are quite hard to clean, normally washing out with warm salty water and taking an anti imflammatry tablet helps.

The wisdom teeth which are the most difficult to remove are the lowers as they are very close to the posterior dental nerve and can cause damage to them during extraction.

Wisdom teeth?

Not quite sure if you're asking about if they hurt, or if you should have them removed.

If they hurt when they are coming in, depends on the person. Some just feel pressure of them coming in, others feel bad pain.

Mine hurt when they came in. I got the bottom ones removed about 4 years ago. Since they were grown into the bone almost they had to cut open my gums and remove them and then stitch them back up, it wasn't a good time and the combination of the meds and the antibiotics made me sick to my stomach for about 5 days.

Some people are fine when they get them taken out and can go back to school/work the next day.

I still need to get my top ones removed, but now I'm kinda scared because of how bad it sucked last time. It just depends on the person and how far they have grown in.

My wisdom teeth started coming in late, so I didn't start getting them removed until a few years ago('m 24) Some people don't need to get them removed at all if they are not bothering you, or over crowding your teeth.

Wisdom teeth?
worth getting removed all at once! I Love it everytime they pull one out!

Refer this site for more information.
Reply:Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that most people get in their late teens or early twenties. Sometimes these teeth can be a valuable asset to the mouth when healthy and properly aligned, but more often, they are misaligned and require removal.

Wisdom teeth present potential problems when they are misaligned – they can position themselves horizontally, be angled toward or away from the second molars or be angled inward or outward.

Wisdom teeth?

Do you feel really pathetic when their growing? I can't seem to shake off a cold, my throat always hurts, my ears are blocked and I wonder if its all related

Wisdom teeth?
It is all related. The fact that you have a cold is not because you have wisdom teeth ~ but if you caught the cold when your wisdom teeth were irratated it would only make it worse.

I felt like that before I got my wisdom teeth out and I would also get horrible headaches too. Hopefully your are getting yours out soon and will feel better in no time.

After my surgery it took three days and , I felt a thousand times better.
Reply:it wouldnt
Reply:Mine are coming in now, I get sores on my tongue from the fever, and my mouth is sore...that's it. Grr...hopefully they'll grow in quickly.
Reply:nope i dont think its realted to ur wisdom teeth.
Reply:all new teeth growth has such symptoms. that is why babies cry so much and want to have a thing to chew on.
Reply:its all related i just recently had mine removed and now everything is back to normal but when i had em i was always sick, off balance, and just not right have em removed
Reply:it could be, but the only real way to tell is to have them pulled and get to a doctor for some antibiotic.
Reply:hun i just got my pulled and when they came in i ran a fever i never had a cold or anything but i just got them pulled and i am not in pain no more best advice get rid of them a.s.ap
Reply:YES!

Your wisdom teeth can make you feel like you have a cold or a heavy feeling in your head. It's kinda like your sinuses are pulling or something freaky!

I had a time with mine a few years ago and I was sick! Went to the doctor and he would put me on antibiotics thinking I had a sinus infection. After about 4 months he figured out it was my wisdom teeth. I had them removed and felt like a whole new human.

Reply:Im 15. I dont know if the molars that are growing now are my wisdom teeth but my bottom right molar was so bad the skin on top of the tooth was like a ballon. I couldnt talk right. I just kept biting it little by little until it went down by the end of the day my gum had the impression of the top right molar. While that molar is still growing It hurts but i dont get fever. Start Useing Crest For Sensitive Teeth. Your Teeth might not be sensitive but your molars might be. Plus it more Protection for the rest of you teeth.
Reply:Many times when wisdom teeth come in, an infection occurs and if left untreated, it could spread. You should see a dentist to see if you have an infection %26amp; he'll prescribe an antibiotic! Good luck - they can really hurt coming in. Sorry :(
Reply:Wisdom teeth roots can go into the sinus cavity so yes it is all related.

I had to have two removed when I was 25. The other two have never come down, they are under my eyes.

Wisdom Teeth?

Do they put you to sleep when you get em out? I'm horrified about it... I'm a pansy I know...

Wisdom Teeth?
It depends on who removes them. Your dentist will use an anesthetic to numb you and possibly use N20 as well. If you see an oral surgeon for their extraction, then you will be put to sleep for the procedure. Don't think of your self as being a pansy, most everyone fears having the 3rd molar removed either way. What you should think of is the fact that the wisdom tooth has the "smallest root" of all the teeth. The reason they are considered so "bad" is that they are so far back and difficult to get to for removal. Most of the afterward pain you may experience will be from your jaws being so sore from staying stretched wide open for so long during the procedure. The second day start doing some jaw exercises, by opening and closing your mouth a little wider each time, and do this several times a day along with the warm salt water rinses. You'll do fine with which ever way you are scheduled to have them removed. Good luck and follow your dentist post-op instructions.
Reply:Youll probably get a numbing injection in your gums. My wisdom teeth are coming through and i plan on keeping mine :D
Reply:count me as a pansy too...i was out cold and had all 4 removed at once.
Reply:No, they just numb it

My teeth are very wise too, they tell me the answers to my chemistry tests that only I can know

my conscience is in my teeth

they know everything I am going to do before I do it
Reply:Nope they just make your mouth numb with Novacaine
Reply:it depends...if they are coming in straight, then you'll prob. just get a freezing. All four of mine were impacted, or grew in sideways, so I had to have mine surgically removed.
Reply:Generally, Yes.

They did for me!
Reply:so am i!!!!! i have it done in a week yes they do put you to sleep and they say we wont feel anything then they give you strong pain releivers after!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
Reply:A bottle of Jack Daniels and a pair of pliers works best
Reply:you have a choice of getting put to sleep or they num your mouth
Reply:am 19 year old you arnt suppose to get them till you are 21? sumit like tha. i been gettin mine since i was 16 yr old! horrible aching pain in my jaw! i will probablies have to get mine out, you can either get them out by anisthetic o they wil just numb your mouth youwont feel a thing.
Reply:It depends on who the dentist is and how bad they are impacted. If you go to the right dentist you can just have local anesthesia.Don't think you are being a pansy lots of people get put out and have them all done at once!!
Reply:I was not put to sleep and I had to go to a oral Sergent. Don't be scarred, they gave me so many drugs that I did not feel a thing for days.

I got an IV with stuff in it, a gas thing on my nose and than a shot in my mouth in which at that point I did not even feel.
Reply:when I got mine extracted, they only anesthesized the area they were working on. So I got one shot on each side of the gums for all four wisdom teeth. For a total of 8.

They asked if I wanted to be totally anesthesized and sleep thru it, but my insurance only covered a little bit of that, and I'd a have to pay a ridiculous amount out of pocket.

No thanks, local anesthesia was fine, my dentist even played ABBA in the background for distraction.

It's not too bad, if you don't mind the drilling noise and such.

Oh, and prepare to have a swollen face for a few days.
Reply:I had all 4 removed and I was knocked out cold.

You really don't want to be awake.

I was sore for a day or so, but other than that, it was really no big deal.
Reply:The might also take out your wisdom with the teeth.....
Reply:Different dentists do it differently, depending on their facilities. They can numb you or knock you out. Make sure they provide for your preference before making an appointment.
Reply:I had the choice to be put to sleep or stay awake when I got my 4 wisdom teeth taken out. I'm a chicken, so I was out cold.
Reply:I think you get a choice. Local anesthetic or go completely under. I had mine done (they were impacted) and I went under. They screwed mine up by hitting a nerve and it still affects me slightly. But I have had a LOT of friends that have gotten it done without a problem. It's just something you have to get done, just make sure you choose a good doctor.
Reply:Well welcome to aduthood? lol I was told I have to get mine out too. All four. Which I'm not excited about either since I don't feel my top ones need removed. They are already in and straight but, the bottom one is coming in and straight then the other bottom one is impacted, coming in crooked. They said that would be the most problematic one. They won't put me under which is what I wanted. They will only give me lughing gas in a mask over my nose and probably anesthesia after. I scared too. I've heard horror stories, but I try to make myself think that alot of peoplehave this done all the time, so I can do it. Good Luck! I get mine out Apr. 20.

I saw a post above. I am going to an oral surgeon and they will not put me under! What gives?
Reply:my ***** got them taken out and they put her to sleep and she was really wacky and she is still screwedup to this day
Reply:You have the choice as to whether to do local or general anesthesia. Being "put to sleep" is the easiest way for you and the dentist.

You will have some pain the day of the procedure and for a day or two after. It's not that bad...just use cold compresses then heat for any swelling and take any medication the dentist gives you.
Reply:yes, but i recommend you go to a biologic dentist so that you do not get cavitations. i have a list of sites you look for one if you need it, just email me.

CAVITATIONS

A cavitation is an unhealed hole in the jawbone caused by an extracted tooth [or a root canal or an injury to a tooth]. Since wisdom teeth are the most commonly extracted teeth, most cavitations are found in the wisdom tooth sites. Please see the graphic and photo below to get a glimpse of what may be in your mouth and the effects it is having. The photo and diagram demonstrate the destructive and pathologic consequence of a routine tooth extraction. Dentists are taught in dental school that once they pull a tooth, the patient's body heals the resulting hole in the jawbone. However, approximately 95% of all tooth extractions result in a pathologic defect called a cavitation. The tooth is attached to the jawbone by a periodontal ligament which is comprised of "jillions" of microscopic fibers. One end of each fiber is attached to the jawbone and the other end of the fiber is attached to the tooth root. When a tooth is extracted, the fibers break midway between the root and the bone. This leaves the socket (the area where the root was anchored in the bone) coated with periodontal ligament fibers.

There are specialized cells in the bone called osteoblasts. Osteoblasts make new bone. The word "osteoblast" means bone former. They are active during growth and maintenance. However, the periodontal ligament prevents the osteoblasts from filling in the tooth socket with bone since the periodontal ligament fibers lining the socket act as a barrier beyond which the osteoblasts cannot form bone. In other words, an osteoblast "sees" a tooth when it "sees" periodontal ligament fibers. Since there are billions of bacteria in the mouth, they easily get into the open tooth socket. Since the bone is unable to fill in the defect of the socket, the newly formed "cavitation" is now infected. Since there is no blood supply to the "cavitation" it is called "ischemic" or "avascular" (without a blood supply). This results in necrosis (tissue death). Hence we call a cavitation an unhealed, chronically infected, avascular, necrotic hole in the bone. The defect acts to an acupuncture meridian the same way a dead tooth (or root canal tooth) acts. It causes an interference field on the meridian which can impair the function and health of other tissues, organs and structures on the meridian. Significantly, the bacteria in the cavitation also produce the same deadly toxins that are produced by the bacteria in root canals (see Root Canals). These toxins are thio-ethers (most toxic organic substance known to man), thio-ethanols, and mercaptans. They have been found in the tumors in women with breast cancer.

here is an example of sedation:

BIOLOGIC DENTISTRY AND IV SEDATION

Before Conscious IV sedation was used in Biological Dentistry, there was no other choice but to have the patient come into the office as many as 5 or 6 times for treatment.

According to Dr. Hal Huggins, a pioneer researcher of biological dentistry, IV sedation is...[a good] approach for the patient's welfare because...[it will] not interfere with the 7-14-21 day cycle of the immune system. ...this new approach...[allows] for faster recouperation, excellent detoxification,...and [is] less stressful for the patient.

IV sedation is performed by a licensed anesthesiologist (M.D.). ...we use MIDAZOLAM. The risk is minimal with heart and blood pressure being monitored throughout the procedure. ...[It] can last anywhere from 3-6 hours, depending on the amount of work required; But...to...the patient,...[it will seem like] it has only been an hour or less. The patient does not go under. They can talk, use the restroom, and interact and participate throughout the procedure. Some...patients drive home,...although...the patient [may opt to] bring a friend or spouse with them.
Reply:I think you can be either awake or asleep it is up to you...most of the time if your wisdom teeth are already exposed or showing over the gum you will be awake because they will only be pulling them, if they are still under the gum then they will most like have to be cut out and they should put you to sleep for that.

Wisdom teeth?

i had my widom tooth removed and the doc didnt put any stitches. is that bad? theyre wasnt any swelling and no pain . just a hole there

Wisdom teeth?
You may not have needed stitches. I "think" it depends on how deep the dentist had to cut into the gum. Apparently he did not have to cut that much. Lucky you didn't have to have them! Hope you are feeling better though!

Wisdom teeth?

I'm having my wisdoms pulled soon and want to know how much it sucks

Wisdom teeth?
well, you can't talk for a while. and your jaw will be sore. but they give you vicodine, so as long as you keep taking it, you won't be in pain. it really depends on weather or not they have to break your teeth apart or if they can just pull them out.

whatever you do, don't eat things that you have to chew, because if you get food in those holes, it's hard to get out, and it hurts. salt water rinse after you eat, it keeps your mouth from getting infected.

it's not that bad, i was good as new in about 2 weeks. just be patient!

Wisdom Teeth?

Firstly why are they called that...? But on a more serious note, I have to get all four of mine taken out. I'm having it done under general anisthetic but two of them are in such bad condition that there is no tooth left below the gum line..... somebody please calm me down, I'm scared sh*tless as they say. I would appreciate an dentists opinion too if there are any on line.

Thanks for any help.

Wisdom Teeth?
I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled out, and as well I´m a dentist. So I know both sides. I didn´t need general anesthesia, local was enough.

Please, don´t be scared at all!!! You won´t feel or hear anything. The only bad thing might be a swollen face for some days and pain when you open your mouth. But you can take painkillers and then everything is better. Don´t smoke, that´s important.

Don´t worry, you´ll wake up and be delighted that you did it.
Reply:I had one removed - it was easy and there was very little pain.
Reply:Don't worry my boss just had them done today. 4 wisdom tooth took out. Everything is going to be just fine...
Reply:It's not pleasant, but you're lucky you're having a general - I had one of mine taken out under a local and it wasn't very nice. Look on the bright side, when they're gone you'll feel a whole lot better. Good luck.
Reply:They call them wisdom teeth because they come out when you're older...and have more wisdom.

I had 5 wisdom teeth cut with general anesthetic. The worse part was the numbing.

Most wisdom teeth don't have room to come through the gum, or maybe just a side of it will...so they mostly have to cut them out.

I did my internship with a dentist that specialized in removing teeth, and we did a lot of wisdom teeth extractions. It's not that bad really, and it's a great idea to get them removed, the sooner the better!
Reply:There's nothing to be scared about. I got all four of my wisdom teeth out several years back, and the only really bad part about it is that after the general anesthetic wears off it really hurts! So make sure you have someone fill the prescription they give you for pain right away, so you can take it as soon as possible. And just have someone with you after the surgery to take good care of you. =)
Reply:If you're having a general, you won't know a thing about it - don't worry!
Reply:I am no dentist but had all 4 mine removed. (At same time - general aneasthetic).

It is MUCH, MUCH less painfull than a normal extration or even drilling. My jaw (where two jawbones connects) was more sore than the actual site where they removed the wisdom tooth.

No need to be scared, really !!!
Reply:I had the same done. It wasn't exactly fun, but it wasn't too bad. I had a bloody nose and felt a bit crap for a day or so, but I reckon a lot of it was down to the anaesthetic.

And the weird bit is feeling your gums when they start to heal. They're all jelly-like - just like when your teeth fall out when you're young.

Relax. It will be fine.
Reply:You've got nothing to worry about, really. I had root canal done on a wisdom tooth last month under local anasthetic and didn't feel a thing. Dentistry has really moved on recently.

They're called wisdom teeth just because they come through in later life (late teens to thirties), when I suppose, we're wiser : )
Reply:You be OK there girl. I had 3 of mind remove and one other bad one like the two you had. They cut them out. You'll be fine. I still have one of mind. It took the place of one other that was remove. Now it's at the point it needs to go. I had it 40 years longer than my other 3.

Wisdom teeth my grandma told me that they were there to make you smart. But I have one and I am not that smart still. If I still have one that went bad.

Also I still have a baby tooth too. Don't tell anyone that please. I just 52 now.
Reply:Please go now to dental doctor for investigation , don't wait for advices
Reply:Don't know why they're called that - maybe because they erupt in our late teens/early 20s when we're supposed to have acquired some?

What are you afraid of? Pain? You'll be out cold, you won't feel a thing. When you wake up, you probably will have some discomfort for the remainder of the day but Tylenol or something similar will take care of it. The holes will be packed with gauze and you should plan on a diet of soft foods for a day or two: jello, pudding, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs etc. You'll get instructions. If you are a smoker, give it up as it will cause pain and delay healing.

Just for comparison: mine were removed years ago by dental students under nothing but Novocaine. Two came right out, two had to be chiseled out. They took forever, the Novocaine wore off and it really hurt. But you won't know a thing. Lucky girl! Not to worry - it will be slick as moose snot!
Reply:because they are young teeth or milk teeth and theer is always that myth about the tooth fairy
Reply:I had all 4 removed under general and although i was a bit swollen and uncomfortable it was fine. You will feel a bit sore for about two days but not excrutiating. I have heard of some people who were able to chew, i wasnt and ate soup then on day two managed mashed potato and from there as long as it was chopped up small was able to eat anything. Rinse your mouth with salt water after every meal to ensure that no food gets into the wounds. mouth wounds are quick to heal. When i woke up my throat was a bit dry as my mouth was open all the time they did the op. Also my jaw joint was a bit sore when i tried to open as it was open all that time.

You will be fine. Mine were compacted and were growing down my jaw towards my chin.

I slept propped up as it was more comfortable and had an ice pack to put against my chin every now and again.

Good Luck and dont worry.
Reply:i had one taken out with a general and one with a local. the one with a local was just like having a normal tooth pulled and was fine afterwards so i guess you must have 2 that can be pulled like normal so these will be fine afterwards. the other 2 will have to be cut out your gum and you will have stitches. my wisdom tooth i had taken out under a general was completely in the gum. i don't know what they did but i know the gum was cut and i had stitches when i woke up. the same day i had it done i was fine. the next day my face swelled up really badly and couldn't open my mouth. i had to have liquids for about a week. i had to have 2 weeks off work but was told this before the op. it took me a long time for my jaw to get back to normal. you probably won't be as bad as that as my tooth was quite deep into my jaw and it sounds like it will be the removal of the roots which will only be a very minor cut to get a grip on the roots to remove unless they drill them out. sorry if I've scared you with my story but yours will be far less painful.
Reply:I had my top two taken out and they were impacted. There wasn't any real pain.

You'll be fine. Just do what the dentist or oral surgeon tells you to do, and you'll be fine.
Reply:As they say, shoot from the hip.... I had mine taken out... they had 'impacted' with the teeth to the front, and the roots had wrapped round my jawbone. seems they had to shatter the teeth to get them out, then put them back together to ensure they had got all the tooth (4 of them) out. Yes, I was bruised from ear to ear, very sore, could not work for a week or two...I was teaching at the time. Overall, was fine, a bit sore. This is some bad case scenario, but hopefully, knowing is better than glossing over the facts. One precaution I always take before a General Anesthetic is to insist on an ECG, simply to ensure no heart problems go unoticed. Nothing to be alarmed about really, hope you dont mind soup and scrambled egg for a week or so.
Reply:wisdom..... cause you usually get them in your twenties, because you are supposed to be wise I suppose... why dont you ask your dentist to take one or two out and then go back for the other two....... although they may charge you again to take them out but it's your mouth.

I would be scared too getting 4 taking out, that is to the exstream, but if you have no tooth left under your jaw line than it should be easy as your dentist will not have go next to any nerves.

Dont worry but do tell your dentist that you are very nervous, and how you want things to go. Good luck x
Reply:If you're having it under general anesthetic you won't even know what's going on. I'm sure your dentist/oral surgeon is very competent to do a good job. Have faith in their abilities and try to relax. Let your dentist know what your concerns are. Most of the time, we become overly concerned about the unknown. Knowledge of the procedure may help put you at ease. And don't listen to other people's wisdom teeth horror stories. They don't help at all and most of the time they are greatly exaggerated in order to scare you. Everybody's teeth and experiences are different. I'm sure you'll be fine. Good luck!
Reply:Well don't feel bad because Iam getting the 2 bottom ones taken out TOMORROW!!! Iam scared to death too, but I have heard its not that bad. Both of them are impacted, but Iam going to sleep because I dont even want to know whats going on, LOL!! But good luck to you, I'm sure it will be fine (maybe I should take my own advice, huh??)

Wisdom teeth?!?

I got them pulled about a week ago. It seems that a part of my tooth is still in my gums.

Wisdom teeth?!?
Its possible. Since they don't really pull your teeth. They break them in to pieces a lot of the time and then pull them out.

If you are worried about it you should go back to the surgeon.
Reply:Your dentist can take an X-ray and find out for sure. Make an appointment and get it checked out.
Reply:Call the dentist and make sure it's ok. You don't want some sort of infection.
Reply:You may spit a few chips for a few weeks. It's normal.
Reply:I had all mine pulled and I remember something like that, but I think you should go back to the doctor and get an exray so you know for sure.
Reply:You should probably go get an x-ray just to be sure.
Reply:I think an x-ray would be definitely recommended...however keep in mind that depending upon your age wisdom teeth removal could affect the amount of pain and recovery time. Recovery is easier when you are in your late teens rather than 35 years of age. By any rate, a visit to the orthodontist who conducted the extraction would be a given here.

Wisdom teeth?

i had my widom tooth removed and the doc didnt put any stitches. is that bad? theyre wasnt any swelling and no pain . just a hole there

Wisdom teeth?
Sutures (aka stitches) aren't always indicated when we do extractions. They're placed on a case by case basis; if your gums are healthy and the extractions wasn't a deep surgical one, you will be able to heal without having any sutures placed.
Reply:that should be okay, just be sure to keep it clear. rinse with salt water after everything you eat and keep to really soft foods for several days, applesause, pudding, slushies, jello. whatevery you do don't use a straw untill you're all healed. the blood clot can actually come out and that is too horrible to think about. if you start bleeding a little bit you can bite down on gauze or a used teabag.

Wisdom Teeth?

I am about to have a wisdon tooth removed in hospial tomorrow.... lower right... has anyone experienced this? and does it hurt? or leave any bruising / swelling...? thanks in advance.

Wisdom Teeth?
It hurts, but it's not that bad. I was told I may bruise or swell. Didn't happen though. It gave me a reason to eat ice cream for 3 days straight!. =) Oh, and absolutely no type of suction for 4 to 5 days. ie smoking, drinking out of straws etc. The suction can break the blood clot leading to dry socket. That is where your bone is exposed, which I heard is worse than childbirth. ahhhhh!

Ultimately, it hurts....but the pain killers def helped me.

Good luck. You'll be back to normal within a week.
Reply:you WILL not feel a thing.I have had three out now, they are no use anyway and can be affected by the glands in your throat. and vice versa.
Reply:i had two out on friday - u cant feel too much but the pressure on the jaw is unbelievable

without being melodramatic, it did bleed for 24 hours and its still pretty sore now

it also depends how deep they are and if they curve etc
Reply:your very lucky to be having this operation i had to ride out the pain with my 4 wisdom teeth!

my mother and my brother had this op and experienced swelling for a period of just over 24 hours and bruising lasted for about 4 days but this is all down to the nature of your operation and the time that your body takes to heal.
Reply:When I had mine pulled, the only part that I thought hurt was the anesthetic shot. I felt nothing whatsoever while having the tooth pulled. It will most likely swell the side of your face, but if you keep an ice pack on it (or something frozen, if you don't have one) the swelling will go down pretty quickly (10-20 min each hour).

Good luck hun!

i have got terrible tooth ache its on both sides of my jaw, i just just wondering if there is anythin i can do to easy the pain.

Wisdom teeth?
Try clove oil until you can get to a dentist
Reply:go to the dentist and tell them about it , if u dont want to then just take some advil
Reply:You could try taking Advil or any pain medicine.
Reply:u should actually tell ur mother about it because i have wisdom teeth also so i tolled mi mom and now it doesnt hert
Reply:Have you had a dental check up recently. Might be a thought.

Pain killers or oil of cloves will help.
Reply:rub sensodyne toothpase into it, it really works
Reply:have you checked with the dentist to say it is your wisdom teeth? they may be impacted and that is causing pain or it could be something else. Its best to tell the dr about these things but taking advil can help ease some discomfort for the time being.
Reply:Pain killers usually help...check with your dentist, sometimes you need to get them taking out if there's horrible pain and it takes up space...
Reply:advil...thats about it. go to your dentist to make sure they are your wisdom teeth coming in, mine just started to and my friend just had to get hers pulled out yesterday...so ceck with ur dentist and see what he/she says!

feel better!
Reply:take some ibuprofen or tylenol which ever you prefer, also use some ambesol to numb the area. I would get an appt to the dentist asap to make sure you do not have an infection or your wisdom teeth need to be removed.
Reply:Could be your wisdom teeth. Try Ambesol to rub on your gums and teeth. Sorry, but the only true cure is having them pulled.
Reply:i get the same now n again on my bottom wisdom teeth... gettin a whole clove n puttin it in the bk o your mouth n just bite down.. whenever i get it i leave it in for bout 5mins n it really does help!!
Reply:You may want to talk with your dentist because some people have trouble breaking in their wisdom teeth. they can grow in crooked and get infections and stuff so be very care full.
Reply:advil, the pain will go away in a while and then come back again and then go away. This happens becuase your wisdom teeth right now are vertical and they are turning up becomming horizontal. This means that they are pushing through the gums of your mouth. Its very painful, especailly when you have to chew something. You can take advil or mortrin, it will go away as they grow.
Reply:If it's cut already try salt water and rinse with it(don't drink it, this might sting a bit)

Orajel works too because it numbs the gum.
Reply:Take a pain reliever like Advil or Tylenol. You could also try rubbing Anbesol on the painful area. If it's your wisdom teeth, then the only way to get rid of the pain is to have them removed. Before you have them taken out, though, ask your dentist about "dry socket." I got dry socket when I got my wisdom teeth removed, and it was the most painful thing I've ever experienced! I wish I had know about it before so I could have prevented it. Good luck!
Reply:Smack your foot with a hammer.... you will totally forget about your teeth! ;o)
Reply:ive had terrible tooth ach on the top and bottom on both sides, they were bothering me to the point were i forced my dentist to have the 4 pulled. I hadnt a problem since.
Reply:try paramol tablets, or dissolving dispersible Asprin 75mg on the source of the pain, clove oil's also a natural tooth sedative. And if the aching teeth are wisdom teeth, it's better to have them pulled out. I ve had four taken out: wasn t painful, under local anesthetics. never looked back!
Reply:are your wisdom teeth coming though, bonjela will help

let the dentist have a look just to make sure they are OK
Reply:Take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen to get any swelling down and rinse with a chlorhexadine-based mouthwash like Corsodyl. But get to a dentist for a prescription for some antibiotics in case there is any infection and they may want to arrange to remove them if this is persistant problem.
Reply:Try pain killers and hot water bottles, It worked for me!
Reply:i am 29 and i am getting them wanting to break through the gum i think a clove of garlic works ,rub it in your mouth

Wisdom teeth?

I had all 4 of my teeth pulled and aside from the pain as well as sickness from the medicine are there any foods I should avoid or activities? I have heard horror stories about dry pockets and infections; but is tehre anything that would essentially cause those things to happen?

Wisdom teeth?
I also had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled 2 summers ago. I know what you're going through. There isn't much you can do, as far as I know, to prevent dry socket - it's pretty unpredictable, but very treatable. Infections are along the same lines, but you can help prevent further pain by avoiding crunchy/hard foods for at least a couple of weeks. Stay away from things like chips altogether for a good month or so - they have a tendency to be very hard on the tender gums (personal experience). Also, don't go near that part of your mouth with a toothbrush, don't use a straw when drinking (the sucking can remove your sutures prematurely), and rinse your mouth gently with warm water to clear out any food particles that may be left behind from eating. I hope you're feeling better soon.
Reply:I had all 4 of mine pulled last year. And JC is right. The doctor should have given you all the info you need. You can try to drink milkshakes, but from the spoon only. Eat non-fruit yogurt, applesauce, soup, mashed potatoes then in a day or so, you can graduate to scrambled eggs. Good luck! It really isn't fun, but it doesn't last forever.
Reply:Hope this link helps you with all information regarding your teeth.Try out http://useinfo-dentalcare.blogspot.com/ for more details.
Reply:I'm not sure about how to prevent infections but you should swish with salt water after everything you eat and use the wierd mouthwash they gave you, or another one if they didn't perscribe you one, twice a day. About dry socket, I'd just do everything you can to prevent dry mouth, I know its hard when you're always falling asleep with your mouth open, but have some water nearby so you can fix that once you wake up. you can help the medication nausea by eating a little something when you take a dose, and by making sure to space out the doses correctly. finally, a little something I just found out about the pain, there are accupressure (just pressing or massaging, no needles) points at the edge of your temples near you eyes, or at the very back edge of your jawbone near your ears that actually seem to work. I'm a skeptic, but if it helps, it can't hurt right?

Wisdom teeth!?

help! my dentist said i needed my teeth out soon twoyears ago..another doctor last year said i should wait a little while because i had mono...i can see my bottom two pushing through the gums they have been for a while and get very sore everytime they push a little more every fewmonths...the doctor is so expensive! i have to wait for my father to pay for it...

will they just grow in and settle?? my top ones don't bother me at all!

Wisdom teeth!?
My dentist told me that even though they might not hurt right away they will keep pushing all your other teeth together since there's really no room for them.I had two impacted I didn't even know about. I would get them out as soon as you have the money because it could damage your other teeth eventually.
Reply:yes it is costly, but no they usually keep growing and hurting.it will cause you alot of pain
Reply:As long as they come straight through without being impacted or causing you pain (other then the soreness of "cutting teeth") then you should be fine. If they hurt because they are pushing on the other teeth, then you need them out soon.

Really, anyone who has space for them and they aren't a problem could technically keep them. I could have just fine but they removed them only because I'd had braces and they were afraid they'd screw up the new alignment.
Reply:Wisdom teeth are third molars. They are

useful especially if you have lost teeth in

they can be painful and may need to be

removed. I found the information

Wisdom teeth?

I had my wisom teeth pulled today. I was put under sedated during the procedure. I was offically done at 11:20 am PST. Now it's around 4pm PST and the lower have of my face and jaw is still numb. I'm pretty sure this is normal. How long will it last? And is it ok to try and drink something?

Wisdom teeth?
Be glad it's numb. When that wears off, it's likely to hurt. As long as the dental surgeon didn't tell you not to eat, you should be fine, but I wouldn't eat anything that requires chewing just in case your tongue is also numb and you end up chewing it along with your food (yes, I had a friend who did that and it wasn't pretty). Try some soft foods like pudding or something.
Reply:You can drink something but do not use a straw. What you are experiencing is very normal. There will probably be swelling later too. Just remember to chew only soft foods... nothing too cold or too hot. And take it easy.
Reply:I had all of my wisdom teeth out a few years ago. Be thankful that it is still numb! It should return to normal in the next few hours. You should definitely drink some water but you should use a straw for now.

Wisdom teeth!?

How long does it take for them to come up? They are perfectly normal looking teeth. I can see one of them breaking through my gum, but its taking so long to come up. They started coming up lastnight. The pain is just horrible.

Now I know how 1 year olds feel.

Additional Details

I am 25 by the way they started coming up when I was 17 then stopped. So I am surprised to see them breaking through my gum.

Wisdom teeth!?
I have 4 wisdom teeth on the surface, not inmpacted. They all took different time lenght to come out. None of them hurt beyond slight discomfort though. You might want to find out if they are not healthy already, sometimes it happens.
Reply:They are rotten and painful. Everyone is different, take some ibuprofen.
Reply:See if you can get them all taken out. It's much easier. If they're removed then you won't have to worry about them crowding into your other teeth.
Reply:I totally know what ur talking about. it hurts and I wanna chew toy
Reply:some peoples w. teeth never make it in, they are impacted, need to go to the dentist for x-rays, yours are NOT NORMAL
Reply:I don't know how long it will take for all your wisdom teeth to come in, but I do know they hurt so bad it will have you crying. Mine started coming in at 15yrs old they really didn't start bothering now that I'm in my 20's and had to get them pulled out. Because they where pushing on my other teeth so I had to get them removed because it would of mess up the lining of my teeth. So unless they hurt very very bad get them take in' out. Don't need to be in pain.
Reply:My first wisdom tooth started pushing through the gum back in the spring of 2003. I'll be 25 in October and I just had 3 of the 4 wisdom teeth pulled out this past Wednesday (August 2). I still have one wisdom tooth that hasn't come through yet and the dentist said he was going to leave that one alone...at least until it started to cause problems which may or may not happen.

I would go ahead and see if you can get them taken out. They gave me some valium, gas (over my nose of course), and some shots in the gum around the teeth that were going to be taken out. I was given some penicillen and some pain reliver. The pain reliever made me extremely drowsy and sleepy but I had some of the best sleep....the best that I'd had in a very long time. The top two wisdom teeth didn't bother me it was just the one that was on the bottom. It was rather difficult for the dentist to get out of my mouth (my mouth is small and the tooth was coming in sideways).

Anyway, if you work and you decide to get the wisdom teeth taken out make sure that you have plenty of time off.
Reply:If you could see your wisdom teeth when you were 17 and they just now showed some movement, I hope you can get an x-ray taken to see if they are leaning against the adjacent tooth or if they are growing in the right direction. I'd bet they are not growing straight or they would have been in a few months after you first saw them.

I'm told they should all be removed , go to your dentist and they can tell you and get you something for the pain I know you hurt ,poor baby.Good luck
Reply:pain reliever
Reply:grin and bear it until they are ready to come out....mine were impacted and felt wonderful.
Reply:Take Advil. If that doesn't work, go to the dentist for an exam to make sure they're not impacted.
Reply:Go to a dentist and see if you need them removed, first of all. If you don't, there are topical tooth-ache medications you can use, as well as something like Tylenol or Advil.
Reply:Like most people, you will have to go to the dentist and have them removed.
Reply:wow. there just starting. go see the dentist and tell him there hurting.
Reply:Yeah that sucks, I'm 21 and mine have grown in in the last 3 years and they just hurt alot, I just kinda ignore the pain and it's not bad anymore.

I think one day I'll have them taken out.
Reply:Lots and Lots of pain killers. Maybe go to your dentist and see if they need to be pulled and if not he may give you prescription strength pain killers!
Reply:Well, until you have them taken out (which you should do all of them at one time...less pain and easier to deal with) take some pain relievers, and then get some stuff called orajel...it is usually used for babies when they are teething, but it helps numb the area and makes it less painful. They have it in different flavors, but it works quite well.
Reply:A lot of it depends on the size of your jaw; mine came in when I was in high school and, except for a bit of temporary discomfort from the gum covering one during that process, I've never had any trouble with them.

Smaller people with smaller jaws may find that their mouths become too crowded with the addition of wisdom teeth.

This is a decision that, obviously, must be arrived at in consultation with your dentist, but I also also advise you to get an opinion from a second dentist before committing to a round of extractions.
Reply:Ambesol and over the counter pain reliever.

Oh yeah....a couple of frozen margaritas might help too! For medicinal purposes of course!
Reply:ibuprofen is good for bone pain and in the short term may help relieve the pain in your mouth.

but you really do need to see a dentist and have an x-ray.
Reply:I ignored mine for years and they finally got to the point where I had to get them removed. Do it before it gets to be as bad as mine were. Mine were completely erupted and I had them all done at once--horrible experience.
Reply:See a dentist!

Wisdom Teeth?

I am getting my wisom teeth out on march 8th and I am really worried about it. I am getting the stuff that knocks me out but I dont need to go to the hospitol. Also I know I could die from it. Does anyone have any tips to make it better?

Wisdom Teeth?
Try not to worry too much. It's a very common procedure, and people go under anesthesia ALL the time. While you're out, there will be a whole team of people monitoring your vital signs (heart rate, breathing, etc.) so they can see if anything goes wrong at the slightest sign--which it probably won't. Complications from anesthesia are really rare. You won't die from it. Dentists and oral surgeons do this procedure tons of times a day, it's just simple routine for them.

And don't worry about the procedure itself, it's definitely not as bad as people think. You'll feel like you're going to sleep just like you're taking a nap and then you'll wake up in recovery and it'll all be over. They'll give you medicine so you won't be in pain.

Trust me, the worst part of this type of thing is worrying and stressing yourself about it. Once you actually have it done you'll see it wasn't so bad and you'll be wondering what you were ever so scared of.
Reply:ask a lot of questions, let them know of your fears and concerns and prayer, may God bless you to have a successful extraction, I have had anestesia before and I am still here be blessed.
Reply:Katie is right. Wisdom teeth extraction is a common procedure, and you will have an entire team dedicated to watching over you to make sure you are okay.

If you can, try to talk with the dentist/surgeon about your questions and concerns. He/she will be the best person to answer them.

I had all four wisdom teeth taken out at the same time about ten years ago (has it really been that long?), and had the same worries. You will be fine. And a bit puffy afterward. Take the pain killers prescription and fill it!

Rest up before and after the surgery, and talk to the doctor now before everything happens.

Good luck! I'll be thinking of you on the 8th!
Reply:its not that bad trust me.i had a wisdom tooth pulled about 5 months ago and i couldnt have any drugs at all bc i was pregnant at the time.all they could do was numb my gums.didnt hurt AT ALL! didnt feel a thing and mouth wasnt sore at all efterwards.i was really worried to at 1st,but no worries..
Reply:If is done by an oral surgeon they will probably have an anesthesis there %26amp; it is fairly safe!! Every thing has a risk. Stop worrying DMD here

Wisdom teeth?

I am getting my wisdon teeth pulled tomorrow at 1:00. How much pain are you in afterwards, and how long does it take for the pain to go away, and the swelling to go down? I am terrified about tomorrow. =[

Wisdom teeth?
It all depends on the person. I was swollen for several days and in major pain whereas my husband ate Easter dinner 3 days after his surgery. It also depends if the teeth are embedded in the bone and how much is involved in the surgery. You will be fine just take the pain meds and be sure to follow the surgeons post op instructions you do not want a dry socket it is the worse pain and they would have to go back in and scrape the bone to get rid of it.
Reply:Don't be scared, your nerves will make it worse on you. It is pretty painful I am not going to lie to you. I would take a motrin before you go in for the swelling and pain so it is not so bad, but call your dentist in the morning to make sure you can do that..... and he will give you meds after also. BUT make sure u ask the dentist BEFORE you go if you can take a motrin first.

Good luck u will be fine
Reply:dont be terrified most wisdom teeth extractions are easier than patients think, most of the time that you are inthe chair you are just getting numb, mostly the whole visit!!when the dentist takes out your wisdom teeth it will be a matter of minutes compare to the time it takes to get you numb...if your are that worried ask your dentist if you can have sweet air(laughing gas)they should be more than happy to give you that to calm your nerves because of the procedure and it will help relax you and help make you less nervousswelling willl go down in about a week or less, ask for a good painkiller so you wont be in pain it will be very mild with the painkillers, take ibprophen too if you need to, which you will get so you will be fine, i work will an oral sugeon and do alot of wisdom teeth extractions all day, hang in there you will be fine, take care...
Reply:I had 4 wisdom teeth and a molar pulled, but I was in a special hospital that did, oral surgery, and well anyway, the pain is not that bad, as they give you pain medication, but you will be swollen for a couple of days, and after about one week, you should be fine. The day you have them done, when you get home, have a chocolate soda, or milkshake, as that will help with your swelling, drinking something cold. No worries, you will do just fine..........................
Reply:had all of mine pulled, and was knocked out for both, not gonna lie to you it is gonna hurt but they will usually give you something for pain when you leave the dentist's office fill the Rx and things will be ok but listen to the instructions they give you, pain should go away in 2 days but remember diferent people have different tolorances for pain, swelling depends on how impacted they are and how much they have to dig for the tooth
Reply:You'll survive. If given the choice, ask to be totally knocked out rather than get a local anesthetic. The worst case is if they are impacted, which is when they actually are growing sideways toward the rest of your teeth. I had this, and they had to cut the teeth into quarters to get them out. The other problem I had was that my top wisdoms had the roots poking up into my sinuses. Because it left holes in my gums into my sinuses, I couldn't blow my nose or even allow myself to sneeze, otherwise I would have blown the holes open before they healed and the would have become permanent!

The worst part of any operation is enduring the pain until it heals. I'm sure you'll get a prescription of painkillers. Just keep it clean as directed by the Dr. The worst thing that can happen is to get an infection, so follow the Dr's orders to the letter.
Reply:Well first of all I'm just gonna tell ya, everyone's different but this is how things went for me. Don't be terrified it takes maybe 45 minutes to get them out(but mine were cut not pulled). The pain went away I'd say 4 to 5 days after I had the surgery. And to tell you the truth i didn't swell at all. Just after you've had the surgery keep the gauze in til you stop bleeding, keep ice on your face, this is on the first day. Don't eat ANYTHING that requires chewing. Keep the pain meds in your system! It really helps and make sure you have eaten something before you take it. So you don't vomit. 2nd day keep a warm moist wash cloth or hand towel on your face. St ill dont eat anthing that requires chewing that much. Still keep up with the pain meds or it WILL hurt. I'm not trying to scare you I'm just telling you what my doctor told me. 3rd day: Again w/ the ice(this will help w/ swelling and/or pain). On the 3rd is when you can start eating a little more that reqires a little more chewing. Pain meds of course. 4th day you can eat some stuff that requires chewing like your normal, everday diet(like before your surgery). And if you have any more pain meds i would suggest to keep taking them til gone(not all at once). If you dont have more and your still in pain take ibeprofin, aleve, advil some sort of pain relief. 5th day for me was like a normal day. Hope this helps you out! Hope everything goes well! Don't be scared you'll be alright.

Plant question

Wisdom Teeth?

Im getting mine out next week and im scared as ever.

plus i just hate the regular dentist.. yeah its weird

I'm not getting an i.v because i hate needles, i had to get 4 blood test before.

so there giving me drugs, which my mom says will make me feel drunk, laughing gas and novacaine or whatever.

Anyone ever gotten their teeth out like that or with out the i.v that has advice or a way to calm me down?

Wisdom Teeth?
Get the IV. I had my wisdom teeth out. They gave me pills to make me sleepy before the IV went in. I didn't even know it was happening. I was totally asleep. Then, the IV was out before I woke up. You won't even know you had an IV other than the band-aid. I wouldn't want to be awake for getting my wisdom teeth out. It was bad enough without knowing what was going on while it was happening.
Reply:all of my friends have done it w/o an i.v. i hate i.v.s, i had one when i was 4 that was like the size of my arm.

but yea...getting ur teeth out doesnt hurt, its the pain the comes afterwards thats scary
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth pulled without any sedation, just local anesthetic, and it wasn't too bad. However, I did have one tooth that was impacted and they had to split it, and I hadn't had enough anesthetic for that, because it hurt like a mother f**ker, and of course I got a dry socket in it and had to go back to get it treated. But other than that, it was fine. Oh, and my dentist was psycho and offered to let me SEE MY TEETH after they had been pulled. I was just like "Oh, hell no, you can keep 'em!".
Reply:man if i were you i would get the I.V especially if you hate dentists...because getting your wisdom teeth out is probably something you dont want to be awake for pain or no pain...i got an I.v and i think it made my wisdom teeth coming out go smooth...just feels like youre sleeping and it feels like you were only out for a minute before they wake you back up
Reply:I had all 4 of mine taken out at the same time when I was 17. Being put under will be the way to go so you won't feel a thing. I wasn't put under and it was bad. Just make sure you stick to the aftercare instructions so you don't get dry sockets. Also, buy some jello, pudding, soups, etc before hand because you won't be able to eat regular food for the first few days. This is common so you will be fine.
Reply:Just dont think about it. It will not hurt, i have not had mine out but there are a few people i know who have had them take out and they have said that they are not sore.
Reply:Try %26amp; relax before you go to the dental office.

Then take the drugs %26amp; go to sleep. Then when it's over take more drugs for the pain.

Good luck.
Reply:It's really no big deal. The back of your mouth will feel a bit tender for a few days, but it goes away quickly. Eat ice cream and drink cool drinks... that will make it feel much better!
Reply:when i had my Wis. teeth out the doctor put me to sleep i never felt a thing! then he gave me a script for pain pill for a couple of days! you got nothing to worry about!!
Reply:Don't worry, you will be fine.

When my wisdom teeth got pulled, I got "Dry Socket", which was a very painful complication of the surgery. However, very few people come down with this, and I only did because I had a reaction to the anesthetic. I threw up and dislodged the blood clots that were in my tooth sockets, exposing the bone.

You should know that most people don't get this, and you will likely be back to normal within a week or less. Good luck!
Reply:I haven't, but I've had oral surgery twice. If they offer it, watch a movie, or bring your cd player/ipod. It sounds weird, but tell yourself stories or recite lines from a speech or a favorite movie or something in your head. Just keep yourself distracted from what is going on in your mouth! It helps!
Reply:ya i got my wisdom teeth removed. i was fully asleep when they removed them. and yes you do feel like you are drunk when they are done. but i really dont remember much of that day. dont worry you will be fine. you wont feel anything. trust me. its not bad at all. and they give you painkillers so it there wont be an afteraffect.

dont stress out about it its a very minor surgical procedure. just dont get nervous and be calm. think of happy thoughts right before you get in okay. well i wish you the bext of luck and oh you wont be able to chew for like the frist 2/3 days..... well unless if you force yourself to eat. haha

And have a laugh. Make sure that you laugh every day!
Reply:You'll be fine. Since you already had 4 blood tests, what is the big deal about another needle for the IV? They gave me something called "brevitol" or something like that. I was out for an hour, while they dug 3 impacted wisdom teeth out of my bone. We're not talking about pulling them, they were stuck in the bone. I felt completely normal when I woke up. Then I put ice packs on my jaws for about 8 hours straight. The next day I ran into someone I knew and she asked me why I didn't have my wisdom teeth out. I had no swelling or pain whatsoever. You do have to be careful though about what you eat while you're healing. When they warn you about acid foods like tomatoes and bananas, they really mean it. All of this happened 35 years ago, so you can imagine how much better things will be for you today.
Reply:I had them removed without I.V. Sorry I can't give you any advice that'll calm you down. It was one of the most horrible experiences EVER (and it had nothing to do with the fact that it was with novocaine and not the I.V.) the recuperating process sucks!!!

What you CAN do is suggest to your dentist that he/she "breaks" the wisdom tooth with the drill and extract small pieces instead of trying to remove the whole piece. The pressure applied to the area is much less traumatic, and less uncomfortable

Good luck, try to relax and not bite your dentist (I did!! Unconsciously...). It'll be over soon
Reply:I had to have mine pulled a few years ago, but they ended up having to "cut" them out. I didn't have an I.V., and it went smooth without any problem. They give me 3 pills though before to take about an hour before. (they were valium) and it helps calm your nerves and relaxes you. The pulling itself doesn't hurt and it shouldn't bother you at all. The afterwards does have some pain, but your dentist should give you some pain med's to take to help you out with that. It's not too bad. You may have to take the pain med's for a couple of days, but after about 2 days, you should be good as new...Hope this helps you a little.
Reply:No I.V. Not needed. No one enjoys having wisdom teeth removed. It has to be done. Nitous oxide and nova caine is all you need. Nitrous causes a disorientation (time lapse response). You can bear it-those of us that have wisdom teeth removed got through it.

Be sure and follow your dentists instructions after removal-very important.
Reply:I was put to sleep when i had all of my wisdom teeth taken out . I did not feel anything and i had to watch what i ate and drink for about a week.

you will be fine and good luck too you.
Reply:Well I didn't have the i.v. test. It wasn't nearly as bad as what people think. I didnt even know that put the shot in. They sray something very very cold on your arm and put the shot in. When I got knocked out, it felt like I have been sleeping just for a few minutes. They said I have been out for half an hour. After I got home, I was miserable. But day after day it got better. I didn't want the laughing gas because I was afraid I'd act goofy. They said I started to say things, that I didn't even remember. I'm very embarressed. I think the worst part is after you get home. You will be fine. Just do what the dentist says. In a few days your cheeks will be so puffy, you will look like a squirrel with his mouth full. Don't worry, I was so nervous before the surgery I almost threw up. You will do just fine.

Wisdom Teeth?

I need to get my wisodm teeth out and i am really scared of the dentist any suggestions on how to beat my fear and just get them yanked?

Wisdom Teeth?
Read this story that I keep posting and pray that yours work out just like my three children's did. That might help calm your fears.

I removed two of my older daughter's wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry, because I figured that she'd be moaning all night long and asking me what to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine. She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.

Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn't even know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that didn't last for more than 3 or 4 days.

With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn't want to be the one to cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don't remember the details.)

I'm not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth (and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

Also, see http://www.webmd.com/hw/dental/tm6328.as...
Reply:I got mine yanked a few years back. It does hurt. But on a positive note, I lost 10 pounds as a result of only eating saucey foods for a week.
Reply:I had to have mine cut out- all 4 of them. So it shouldn't be as bad to have them pulled.
Reply:Its better just to grin and bear it...If you need them doing you need them doing...I had one of mine removed and I was bricking it cos Im sacred too...it wasnt that bad..trust me x
Reply:You need to face your fears and just do it. Plus the oral surgeon that would yank them has had more schooling than a normal dentist and would take better care of you.
Reply:if you get the wisdom teeth out u will be inserious problem

this is beacuse u will loose all your wisdom and become moron
Reply:my sister just got hers out. she was scared too but i can see why. there's no way around that it is painful but theres always painkillers and you get to eat all the soup/milkshakes you want for like 3 days. good luck.
Reply:I would have the procedure done. Those wisdom teeth can really cause really bad problems. If they don't bother you just leave will enough alone.
Reply:I got mine out in the Navy and it was pretty painless. There will be more pain if they are impacted. Dentistry nowadays is painless for the most point. Ask if you can bring an ipod or walkman and listen to some music (if you're going to be awake).
Reply:If you dont get them yanked it will cause your teeth to move drastically. I got mine in but i wear retainers do to braces that were removed. It forced my wisdom teeth to come in perfectly straight will no problems.I didnt have to get them yanked (kinda rare). Just get them yanked so you wont have problems later. Heard its pain in the butt the first couple days and you'll look like a chipmunk but it'll go away.
Reply:They are going to hurt a LOT (LOT LOT) worse if you don't get them out than the pain you feel getting them out.

I was scared to get mine out, if you're really apprehensive, front the money and just get the gas--it's worth it if you're that scared. Or they can give you a pill too, makes you all goofy.
Reply:take tylenol ( do not take pills) only in liquid form. after 1 hour use your own tongue to yank it out.
Reply:Ok, I've had 8 teeth pullen out, including my wisdom teeth of course...haha! I'm not scared of the dentist, and you shouldn't be either. When I was 14, I had the 4 teeth behind my canines pulled out...see, first they'll put a numbing cream on your gums, wait a bit, and then the doctor will give you a few shots, but I swear it will only feel like a pinch, that's all. Then they will wait some more and you'll feel all puffy. Then the doctor comes and pulls the teeth out, but I swear to god, it won't hurt. Now, when I had my wisdom teeth pulled out when I was 18, they were not even exposed yet, so the doctor had to actually cut through my gums first. So basically, he gave me a shot through an IV, and I was out like a light. When I woke up, it was alllll over. The first time I went, he doctor knew I was scared, so he kinda covered my eyes with his hand while he gave me the shots and did the pullin'. Try not to look at the shots, because that will make you more nervous. Also, while all this is going on, try to think good happy thoughts, like going out with your friends, or whatever you like. Make sure to also concentrate on your breathing, and let the guy just do what he's gotta do. Also keep in mind that this is only for your own good, and you wanna make sure you have a pretty smile. :o) Hope all of this helps sweetie!
Reply:Go to an oral surgeon and be put out.
Reply:I put off having mine removed for years and years and they gave me lots of problems. Finally, I had them all removed a few weeks ago and the pain was nothing compared to the discomfort they've caused me in the past. I opted to be put to sleep and I woke up dopey and happy. I didn't even need to take the pain medication they have me, I just took regular advil and kept ice packs on my face to keep the swelling down. The blood on your mouth is gross but that passes. You'll do fine.
Reply:I had mine done while I was out. I just dozed off, they did all the yucky work, and when I woke up it was all over. Swelling was icky for a few days but it healed up nicely.
Reply:I did not go to a dentist for this bcoz it came out on its own . . .but you need to go to a dentist only if it is paining . . .
Reply:Just grin and bear it...Otherwise your head will rot of.
Reply:have you been to the dentist at all about it?

because if you havent, then go. chances are, he is going to refer you to an oral surgeon, and if that happens you can get knocked out.............and if you get knocked out there is nothing to fear.......well until you wake up. they really are much worse than just a regular tooth to heal up. but dont sweat the procedure if you are going to an oral surgeon. its happy time lol

they do give you pain meds that rock like percocet

take care of yourself after you get them pulled dont smoke if you do because you could get dry sockets and that was right next to child birth...........

i lived though lol

let me know how it goes

good luck
