does it hurt when you get them. is it hard to bite and does it feel weird having 4 extra teeth. do u get wiser when u get them? what is the average age when you get them?

Well from my own experience unless you have plenty of room in your mouth for them, they come out at a angle. Pain kind of comes and goes. I have had my top two removed( how wonderful) but those two on the bottom don't bother me too much. Here the thing, if you can't clean them properly with toothbrush then they need to come out. otherwise they will just sit and rot away. Hopes this help. Are you even sure you have wisdom teeth some people get lucky.

Reply:They HURT once they Grow in , But when i had mine removed , i was put to sleep. It hurt for a few days .. but after that I feel great with them outta my mouth !! I got Mine at 20 , an could only deal with them for about 3 months , before i just said f-this .. an got them removed !
Reply:I had them removed before they broke through the surface so to speak... it did hurt to have that done, so double-check whether they would ruin the look of your front teeth due to lack of jaw-space.

Wisdom teeth?
i had one removed in october of 07. b4 christmas two more started bothering me. the dentist said to wait 6 weeks b4 he would do anything about it. i go back on the 24 of jan.
i can feel my bottom teeth moving and idk if thats good or bad. do u recommend making an appointment to see the dentist sooner.
btw im only 14.

You may feel your teeth shifting a little, but your appt is soon enough. They won't move very far in that short a period of time. He wants you to wait the full 6 weeks so the pocket from the extraction can heal enough so they dont disrupt anything with the handpiece or the high speed suction...this time frame is important.

When you get your wisdom teeth removed the empty spaces will form blood clots. Blood clots are good! When you start drinking from straws, spit a lot, smoke- you can dislodge your blood clot. This is NOT an infection, it is just simply an very painful imflamation. Do your best to stay away from drinking through straws, spiting, smoking, even coughing a lot after you have your surgery and 2-3 days after. Nothing can be worse than a dry socket, it is very painful and not much will help relieve the pain. So take it easy for the next few day after and all should go well. Best to you!

But i just thought there might be new'er answers or updated answers.
I went to the dentist yesterday to have mine checked. Photo'ed.
There's four of them showing.
Two below's growing the WRONG way.
Two above's OK i guess.
But the pain is one of the teeth above.
How do people get over it?!?! I mean, when i eat, it HURTS so much that i can't even finish my food.
I tried pain killers, but its not helping at all.

Get them pulled immediately. Don't wait any longer if your in that much pain. Or at least get the one that is hurting pulled, but it is easier to have all four pulled in one operation. If painkillers (vicodin or percocet) didn't help then you really need to have them out now.
Reply:My impacted ones (growing sideways) were eventually giving me head, jaw, and ear aches. As soon as I got them out, the pain went away. Until the removal date, Ibuprofen helped me. =)
Reply:Your case is the same as that of the million people around the world. Your wisdom teeth growing sideways or more commonly known as "Impacted Wisdom Teeth" abrupts nerves surrounding your gums. That's what causes the pain.
The only treatment you can have is to go to a licensed Oral Surgeon.
The Oral Surgeon may ask you to have X-rays for your teeth. That would show how your wisdom teeth grow and the difficulty of removing it.
Impacted Wisdom teeth cannot just be pulled out. Pulling it out may cause temporary or worst, permanent numbness of your jaw, chin and lips; depending on how severe the nerve damage are.
You would have to undergo a surgical removal procedure of those impacted teeth called Odontectomy.

when I had my impacted teeth surgically removed, I was not able to eat anything solid for like 4 days. Only thing I ate was ice cream, jello or shakes. And I have that chipmunk-face for a week.
So if you are working, you would have to leave work for like 2-3 weeks.

Any Advice? I'm in a ton of pain and have to wait two days to get to the surgeon. Can't eat or sleep. What can I do to realive some of the pain off my teeth?

I am getting my widsom teeth pulled on Thursday, what is typically the health time that would allow me to be comfortable? I work with a lot of customers, and need to be able to functionally talk. Please let me know what your experiences are. Thanks :)

Its different for everyone. I had mine surgically removed and it took a good 2 days to feel better. My aunt had hers taken out because they hurt and she went to work right after they were pulled.... she was still bleeding and she said she had blood running down the corners of her mouth though....
Reply:Probably three days and you'll be able to talk comfortably. I talked the first day, but I know a lot of people who needed a couple days, particularly because the vicadin (or similar pain killer) can make you drowsy.

from all the stories i've been told you should allow about a day before you are expected to be functioning at 100%

My mother in law who had hers out a year ago and she is in her late 50's. She didn't do to well. She was down for over a week and could hardly talk for a good while.
My sister she had a bad time with the meds they used to put her under, she had bad reactions and getting real sick. She also had what is called "a dry socket" that got infected. She was out for a few weeks I think.
I things go well. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was. I was scared to death!
Reply:I just pulled mine on Friday and had no problems the next day. Most of the heavily bleeding is done three hours after the procedure. I did it under local and not iv. So I guess it depends how you get it done and how your body tolerates the procedure. When I took a Vicoden, it really didn't solve much of the pain. Mortin however made me feel more like myself. hey, I just wanted to see if anyone can provide advice for me. In about 2 weeks I am having 3 of my widom teeth removed, which are all impacted. Im really nervous about the whole thing as this is my first type of surgery!
I was also wondering is anyone could tell me what the procedue is like under IV sedation.

Personally I would advise to have the two on the same side removed first and the other side done later. It's going to be sore a while, and at least you'll be able to eat on one side of your mouth.
Going under sedation is the best way. I had my first pulled without and it was brutal, because the roots were long. The other three were under sedation at three separate times and all three were a breeze.

I think it just depends on you and how your body reacts to the drugs. I'm one of those people that doesn't take medication unless I absolutely have to so maybe that's why I had such a hard time. All kidding aside, since they are impacted as mine were I believe they will use an IV and Intros Oxide i.e. laughing gas to make you groggy and the IV to completely put you under. You won't feel a thing and you won't remember anything past the needle going into your arm more than likely. Don't worry. It's normal to feel anxious when it's your first time. I'm about to have major surgery soon and I'm pretty darn nervous!

I had mine out via IV sedation and don't remember much more than waking up to them asking me to bite down on the gauze.

I never had to take the percocet because the pain was very manageable. I personally had minimal swelling.
As long as you have good oral hygiene you should do just fine.
Even being 31 having wisdom teeth with long roots that were all impacted. On one some bone had to be chipped away on my jaw bone to get the tooth out. With all of that it only took the oral surgeon about 20 minutes and I'm doing just fine post-op.
