i was at the dentist and he said that my wisdom teeth are soon going to be coming up .
i heard alot of people saying they had to get theirs removed , but if they are not causing problems do they still have to get removed .
Wisdom teeth ?
No, you only need to get them removed if they will disrupt the rest of your teeth.
Reply:I still have my wisdom teeth. They haven't caused any problems so I don't want to get them out yet. Once they start causing problems you may need to get them out.
Reply:It is very likely they are growing in at an angle that will soon cause you problems. You do not want to wait until they get impacted to get removed.
Reply:When you get cleanings, they check your wisdoms out and let you know if they need to do anything about them. It doesn't sound like it's an issue for you right now, but they are really no big deal, even if you do have to eventually get them removed.
Reply:I am not sure.. I went a long time without mine out.. and Frankly I like having them out... They hurt cuz mine kept coming up and down.. over and over.. So finally I got them pulled and now I have less pain.
Reply:well you see, it depends on the situation. I had braces for a year and a half, right after that, i had to get all four of my wisdom teeth removed, even though three of them did not appear out of the gums. I had to do this because i had braces, and my mouth doesnt have enuf space for more teeth. now if you have space, then no they dont have to be removed.
your dentist might want to remove the wisdome tooth now because sometimes ppl cant take care of them good enought. so food gets caught btwn the gum and the teeth. or it can get infected.
also, if your wisdome tooth grows enough to touch your nerve it could cause alot of discomfort. And when your dentist tries to remove it, your wisdome tooth will break in pieces. This can rupture your nerve with can cause the loss of sensation in your mouth or in some worse cases, your face.
The smart thing to do is to remove them as soon as possible. I had my two left wisdomes removed first at one shot, and then i did it on the right side three weeks later. all under novacain
your dentist will prescribe acetaminophen, ibroprophin, and amoxicillin to relieve the pain, and prevent infection
however, if your wisdome teeth do not bother you at all, just make sure to take good care of them.
watever choice you make good luck :)
Reply:my wisdom teeth came all the way in--straight--but i still had them removed. i had enough room, but barely, and the dentist suggested removing because it is difficult to keep them clean. i also had a very deep cavity in one which would have required a root canal and crown, so i opted to have them all yanked. good luck!

Wisdom teeth?
im 18 and i dont think i have wisdom teeth
how old should you get them at?
does everyone get them taken out?
Wisdom teeth?
I'm 19 and I have them. I got mines at a real young age. They don't give me problems so I don't see a need of getting them pulled.
You probably have them, you just don't know it.
Reply:Get them taken out you'll be sorry if you don't
Reply:not everybody gets wisdom teeth. and you only get them taken out if there messing up your teeth in the back.
Reply:If you need them out, your dentist will let you know. He should take x-rays to see if your Wisdom Teeth are going to be a problem. Mine were abcessed, so I had no choice but to have them out when I was 19. My husband still has his, but most everyone I know has had them out. Not a huge deal.
Reply:the dentist should tell you if you need to take em out cos there is no space for them to grow and they will push the rest making them crocked, or if you can keep them cos there is space for them.
remember when you are old you might need them to grab a bunch of fake ones!

Wisdom Teeth?
i just had my wisdom teeth removed and im not supposed to eat solid foods for at least three days. im sick of soup. any other suggestions?
Wisdom Teeth?
mashed potatoes, all types of pastas, noodles, spageti, alfredo pastas etc., burritos, mac and cheese. Definately do more than just soups. Besides, soups aren't that nutritional and right now you need nutrition because your body is trying to repair your wounds. all dental offices are different, but where i used to work, we would suggest that you eat hearty soft food (mentioned above), for the first couple of days, but that was only to increase your comfort because it might not feel comfortable chewing on crunchy food. Just don't forget to rinse out the socket with the device given to you (we gave out a syringe with a special tip to remove food debri from the socket). If you have any additional questions, do not hessitate to call your office, i am sure they wouldn't mind answering any of your questions.
Reply:Ice cream, smoothies, humus, soft peanut butter %26amp; honey by the spoonful, %26amp; fruit juice.
Reply:ice cream is good buy not the kind that has milk in there... or nuts or anything chewable
Reply:i know this isnt great advice but eat what you feel comfortable eating. i ate the same day i got mine out...they didnt hurt that bad but they had all been impacted. i just chewed with my back teeth that were closer to the front
Reply:dont eat peanut butter to stick and you dont want a dry socket! Apple sauce, mashed patotos, jello, ice cream, ice cream, ice cream!
Reply:drink liquid ice.. water
Reply:Yogurt, applesauce, mashed potatoes-runny, sorbet, fruit chillers, drinkable yogurt... I am getting them out tomorrow. So I did a little shopping.

Wisdom teeth?
i'm getting my wisdom teeth surgically removed tomorrow...either 2 or 4, not sure yet, but they're gonna most likely put me out completely. any suggestions on improving the recovery process? and how long does it take to recover??
Wisdom teeth?
I got my wisdom teeth out about a month ago. I must say it wasn't the most pleasant experience. Just make sure you keep ice on it constantly for the first 48 hours, even sleep with it, or your face will swell up like a chipmunks'. They give you great pain meds! Eat only soft foods and nothing with little chunks in it...like corn, or sunflower seeds, they might fall into the holes in your gums, i had a sunflower seed stuck in my gums for almost a week....gross. Use lots of mouth wash only after the first 24 hours. Don't suck on a straw for 2 weeks, and avoid spitting. You want to keep the blood clot in your gums!! Otherwise you'll get dry sockets...very very painful. Best of luck to you, and just remember the first two days are the worst, it get better from there.
Reply:Take your pain pills and sleep a lot. Don't strain yourself. It takes about 2-3 days to recover.
Reply:I personally just had my wisdom teeth pulled; I went straight back to work with a gauze on the gum with no problems. Everybody I know that has them surgically removed has a day of recovery to get through. Just relax and know that the medications will make you feel weird. Good luck.
Reply:Poor thing! I'm not going to lie...The recovery is the worse part. Getting them pulled is a piece of cake! Just take the pain meds that they will prescribe to you. It will take a few days for the pain to go away!!! Good lick hon!
Reply:Hopefully it will take 5 or 6 days to recover but u must do what orthodontist says as far as cleaning so u dont get dry sockets. Also drink lots of water so your veins are easier to find for the nurse.
Reply:It takes a few weeks. Make sure you limit what you are eating to doctor-prescribed items. Nothing with small pieces that can get stuck on stitches. (I had a friend eat a strawberry smoothie... the seeds got into the stitches and pulled a few out over a few days)
You can't really hurry the healing process. You can only slow it down. Drink alot of water and keep your energy up by eating high-energy foods. Rest so that energy can go to healing and not to powering your activities.
Reply:Everyone is different on this. It depends on how difficult it is for the Dentist to get them out. Some are stubborn and some are easy.
Anyway you'll be just fine and usually after 3rd day you should be feeling alot better. I had mine cut out and had a couple stitches. I didn't have pain afterwards.
Reply:My daughter had this done. The pain meds they gave her were really strong--made her hallucinate. If you can get by without the strong meds, I think it is better. Sleep as much as possible and have a lot of soft food in the house. Jello, pudding, ice cream, mashed potatoes, etc. It took her at least 2 days to get over the worst of it--it's been about 10 years now, so maybe they have improved things since then.
Reply:If you are completely put under, it takes longer to recover. Some people take up to a year to completely recover from anesthesia, so if you can get a less invasive numbing agent, I would recommend it. It's very individual as to recovery. You may feel better by the next day, but you may have some memory issues, fatigue, problem solving deficits for a longer period of time. Drink lots of water and eat cleansing type foods, foods that don't remain toxic in the body for long periods of time, i.e.: fruits and vegies.
Reply:I don't remember exactly how long it took to recover. Three days? I had all four taken at once and they put my under. I recall laying on the big leather chair, a nurse putting something on my face, then there was a little row boat by a river and I got in, then I was back in the chair with tears on my face and I felt like I had been crying. My dad said he could hear me from the hall. He was just outside the door. It was a very pleasant experience as far as I can remember. Then I got to take pain killers for a few days and people took care of me. Not too bad. : )
Reply:well it depends on u.......i just have mine out yesterday...my right side doesn't hurt a bit but my left side went back to the dentist a 10:30 at night to get ten more skitches because it was bleedin a lot and it still hurts...both side was impacted but i guess it just depends on u...also i did my with the numbness thinnie n it only took them like 20 minutes to pull r cut all four out no need to put to sleep

Wisdom Teeth?
So... My dentist has suggested I get my four impacted wisdom teeth out and I am toying with the idea of in the chair with novocaine or under anaesthesia. Does anyone have any suggestions through past experience and what the recovery was like?
Wisdom Teeth?
My wisdom teeth story is almost 20 years old now, so I speak with the voice of experience when I tell you that this will pass. But if you are anything like me, you may never eat jello again (you won’t miss it).
I was 23 when my wisdom teeth came out. All four were impacted. I had to get them out at an oral surgeon's office, and I was under a general anesthetic while the doc hammered those teeth out of my head. My face swelled up like a basketball! For ten days all I could eat was jello or ramen noodles. I thought I would starve!
My husband bought me some pintos and cheese at Taco H3ll, and it seemed like the best thing that I had ever eaten!
I had some discomfort, but NOTHING like the horror stories that everyone told me gleefully trying to terrorize me.
Was it fun? No. I can think of lots of things that are more fun.
Was it unpleasant? Yes. I can think of lots of things that are more unpleasant.
Was it horrible? No.
For me, the worst part was thinking that I was going to starve before I could eat solid food again. And that was about 20 years ago - dental technology has improved a great deal since then.
All my best to you.
Reply:If they want you to have all four out and they are impacted then get knocked out.
Reply:Under anaesthesia --- that is how I had all four of mine taken out. I woudl have it no other way. You lay down in a chair. Count backwards from 100 to as low as you can go --- (I got to 95) and you wake up after it is all over. Just remember to take the pain pills they prescribe you. You will regret it if you do not.
Reply:I suggest anaesthesia/sedation. You're really less likely to "get in the way" of your dentist, and he/she can work more quickly because you are not in any sort of pain, and are not tense. I had wisdom teeth pulled this way, as well as several root canals (my family has really lousy teeth...), and I wouldn't do it any other way!
Reply:You definitely want to be under for this procedure.
I was groggy for about 18 hours after mine were removed. I had it done on Friday and was back at work, a little swollen on Monday. I was a little paranoid about solid food, I ate mashed potatoes and ice cream for a week.
It seems awful the first day, but you'll recover in no time.
Reply:Def with anaesthesia, esp since they are impacted you will be in and out in no time.
Reply:anesthesia I had mine out with just Novocaine and it felt like they were ripping my head apart from pulling

I am getting my wisdom teeth pulled, and I was just wondering how badly your face can bruise. I have been told that since I am very pale skinned, that the bruising will be bad, but how bad? Everyone I've talked to didn't have any noticable bruising, only puffiness. I'm a little nervous and any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Wisdom teeth?
I am very pale skinned too....pure white girl..LOL...anyways I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out at once and my bottom ones were sideways or something where they had to work harder and cut deeper to get them out and I didn't bruise or if I did it wasn't noticeable but I did swell alot...underneath my eyes got a little dark but it was probably from pain pills and just being sore from the surgery...but you should be and I'm sure the bruising won't be too bad for you if you even have any...Good Luck and have lots of jello and pudding on hand when you have them taken out!
Reply:Well, I'm pale skinned too, and when I had mine out I did bruise. It wasn't too horrible though, and the bruising went away within a week. It wasn't really dark, but you could see it. Nothing that a little makeup wouldn't cover up though.
Good luck!
Reply:My daughter had all 4 of her wisdom teeth taken out and she is a redhead with very fair skin and she did not bruise. She swelled up some, but no bruising.
Reply:I had swollen and bruised cheeks for a few days... "look at how yellow that looks. That means you're healing!" so says my oral surgeon... pft. The right one more bruised than the left.

Have anyone extracted all 4 wisdom teeth at one time? Any issues after extraction?
Wisdom Teeth?
I all four of mine plus one second molar that was sideways yesterday. I was really scared before the operation, but the operation itself was the easiest thing in the world. Usually, they hook you up with laughing gas before they even stick a needle in your arm, which didn't hurt a bit. The laughing gas results in loss of awareness, which is a good thing. I was out almost immediately. When I woke up, my mom was in the room and they were done.
The worst part is the first day after the extraction. They put gauze in your mouth to stop the bleeding. You might bleed anywhere from 2 hours to 5 hours after the operation. They numb you up for a good hour or to afterwords, but its best to take pain medicine as soon as you are able to do so. I had some issues with the narcotics they give you for pain, (they made me a little sick) but i found that just a single ibuprofen pill did the trick. The second day is much easier. The best foods to eat are those that you can swallow whole easily, like mac and cheese, apple sauce, eggs, and mashed potatoes. Ice cream and milkshakes are good too, but don't drink thorugh a straw for 48 hours after. In addition, your mouth will probably swell up a lot, but ice helps a lot with this. Good luck!
Reply:i've had 2 at once...it hurts a lot...just can't really eat any solid food for a few days. you might need to take some tylenol or painkillers after
Reply:Don't do all four. It's just too risky and it would make recovery harder.
Do 2 and then 2.
Reply:i had it extracted all at once. 3 of them were easily pulled out but one stubborn one was the most difficult. tat one gave me puffy cheeks for a week or two (and i had school!). It wasnt tat painful. Depends on ur body. My sis was in pain. The doc gave her painkiller (be careful wit them). U might have to take it if ur in pain otherwise if only a lil just take regular pain pills.
Also put ice on ur cheeks so it wont swell up. Also dont eat anythin tat is whole for a day or so. Drink milk. Dont exercise for like a month (the doc will give u a paper explaining it).
Reply:They only split up the surgeries if only two are ready. It is almost twice as expensive and twice as painful of a recovery to split the surgeries. Don't do it unless you have to.
The only tip I can give you is that you will feel really emotional when you come off the drugs they give you in IV form.
I cried, so did all my friends. I also flipped a stranger off for no reason.
Unfortunately the meds didn't work for me, so I was in pain during a lot of the recovery. I just had IBU profen.
Do not under any cirumstances, eat popcorn until your dentist says it's OK. Also try not to eat solids until you've healed.
Hope this helps.
Reply:i just recently had all four taken out..was about a month 3 weeks ago...no pain initially just drowsiness...put ice immediately for prob the first 24 hours atleast...if you dont want to swell..i had to put for 2 days but i never swelled up..did get some pain on the 2nd day but a pain reliever cured that never got any more pain after...only eat soft foods...no hard stuff or whole stuff...and dont try to open your mouth very wide cuz it will hurt more..also i bled mildly for about 2 days...so have cotton gauzes to put in to help stop the bleeding.
