If you have had your 4 taken out then how long did it take you to recover...how many days should you take off work??
Also...how much does it hurt?? LOL

I had mine taken out but I was awake. They numb your mouth like for any procedure and take them out. You mouth is sore for a few days (after the first day when it%26#039;s all numb) and you have to watch what you eat..don%26#039;t drink through a straw. the MD should give you some pain meds and a list of instructions.. Be sure to write down any concerns you have and talk with the staff prior to surgery.
Reply:I just had mine taken out yesterday and it wasnt very pleasent. I was asleep also and started throwing up when I woke up due to the medicine ( not everyone gets sick though ) I have slept all yesterday and all day today and am very swollen and sore. You will need at least 3 days off. Take it easy and dont get dry sockets.
Reply:It depends on the person and the teeth. Some people actually have to have major surgery in a medical center to get their teeth out. I have heard people just have them taken out and back at work the next day, and other people who needed a few days. It really does depend- your dentist should be able to give you a better idea as to the severity of the condition. If the teeth are tangeled in a nerve, impacted, etc, it%26#039;s going to be more difficult. I hope your surgery goes smoothly!

Reply:When I had mine taken out I was 16 and they were still under my gumline. They wanted them out to prevent them from moving my teeth (I had already been put through braces). So mine were dug out basically while I was put under. When I woke up there was no pain naturally, because of the numbness but the next day you will have some discomfort and there will probably be swelling or facial bruising, but everyone is different a little. Good luck though hun!
Reply:Yes I had all four out. The pain should be minimal if you don%26#039;t have any complications.
Because the holes left by the extractions need to form a blood clot to protect the nerve and tissue, lifting is not recommended from 24 - 48 hours after the procedure. Drinking fluids should be done carefully and absolutely NO STRAWS as the sucking can pull the clots out.
Heat will help any swelling as it improves circulation which will in turn help to remove excess fluid buildup. Sleep as much as you can afterwards to let your body repair itself.
Don%26#039;t worry, it%26#039;s not bad at all.
Reply:I%26#039;m probably not a good generic example, but I probably am a good extreme example of what could happen, so what you should watch out for.
I also got sick from the anesthesia and had uncontrollable crying from it when I wok up, but not all people do. They do assign you pain meds. I received Percocet which, unfortunately, I also reacted to. So I had to decide between the pain from the surgery (which for me was pretty bad, I also had all four taken out, but mine were all impacted) or getting sick from the medication. The initial pain took me about five days to get over, the swelling took about a week to a week and a half. During that I definitely couldn%26#039;t get anything from a straw and pretty much ate pudding, applesauce, and other things of that consistency. I%26#039;d be careful though- I don%26#039;t know if this is a general thing or something, but when I got chocolate pudding near the stitches it burned. Badly.
After that, really do clean out your mouth like they tell you to. Become anal about it. I, unfortunately, got a small piece of something in one of mine which cause it to become infected. And trust me, the cleaning out that you have to do and the pain from the infection is much worse (not to mention more icky) than the warm salt water wash.
Again, I%26#039;m a worse case. Pain med reactions run in my family. But I also think it%26#039;s good to read the worst of what could happen, so you could be prepared in case you do happen to be unlucky.
Reply:I would probably take the day after off. While at that point you%26#039;ll be started on the healing process and just rather tender, you%26#039;ll probably feel pretty drained and just not up to doing much still other then lazing around. Beyond that I think mine were just rather tender for a couple weeks while they healed. It%26#039;s not hard to bounce back one you are past the first day you got them out.
Reply:I had this experience recently as well. Everyone told me it was no big deal. The surgeon recommended having them out on a Friday so I%26#039;d have the weekend to recover.
Let me just say, I was in no shape to go back to work that following Monday. Nothing went wrong - I had no allergic reactions, no dry socket or anything, but it was a lot more painful than I had expected. I didn%26#039;t eat solid food for two entire weeks and I had pain for 3 weeks. My job requires a lot of talking, and that first 3 or 4 days was awful. I went home all three days early in tears.
Make sure you take the pain medication they give you - and take it as instructed. If you wait until you are in a lot of pain it won%26#039;t work (trust me - I know- I made this mistake).
Everyone is different, I usually have a very high pain tolerance and for some reason, this just got me. Mine were impacted and I%26#039;m told that does make a big difference. My husband, on the other hand, was fine. He had hardly any pain and was back at work the next day.

Wisdom teeth?
K this is what happened 12 days ago I got my wisdom teeth taken out, one on the left that was impacted and 2 on the right which I was told they did a bone gragh. My left side is still really sore taking 8 advil a day to get rid of the pain. I went to see the dentist about this yesterday just to find out if pain was normal at this stage (pain also keeps me up at night) he said the left side was fine but he was worried about the right side and that%26#039;s it%26#039;s still really swollen and now I have to go back to oral surgeon. What I wanna do is what could be the problem and what the oral surgeon will do? Will he have to open it up again?

You should be ok. I ate a triple cheese burger the next day. But then again, I did not swell at all and I think also the exception. Some people are out for as long as a week but no longer than that. I think you%26#039;re golden.

Reply:i dunno...ur takin a risk. you dont wanna get dry sockets, those are the worst. you get those when u get ur teeth pulled and afterward, you suck in, like when you drink from a straw or slurp soup...the air gets trapped in the sockets and its super painful....if you do decide to drink, just be careful man. i dont drink much myself so i dont know how strong the stuff is ur drinkin, but i wouldnt do anything crazy. stick with beer, no tequila, anything thats gonna burn...

Absolutely because you have stitches and probably a hole that food gets stuck in. Once you%26#039;re all healed up and the stitches are gone you%26#039;ll be fine. Until then ust drink lots of water and rinse, but not too hard.

But once I got a tooth pulled it stunk bad and I hated it. When my stiches finally came out I smelled it, the stiches were in the shape of the fan on a windmill, and it stunk so bad. It wasn%26#039;t too long before the smell went away. I think the next day or two.

jello applesauce, soup, my doct when i had mine out told me not to eat ice cream because it causes flem and its not good for ur mouth then
dont suck anything or use a straw and make sure u keep ur mouth clean with the little water shooter thing they give you, because if food gets back there it can get really ugly an you get infection
but soft easy to swallow foods

Wisdom teeth?
I had all four of my wisdom teeth taken out last monday. It%26#039;s been a week and today I noticed this skin hanging in 1 of the sockets. It doesn%26#039;t hurt and it feels like a grain of cooked rice. It is kind of bugging me and I keep trying to loosen it with my tough. Should I try to pull it off???

Reply:It is probably healing, however if you feel like food is caught in there just take a wet q-tip and gently clean out, if it was a dry socket it would be very painful. Keep rinsing with warm H2O, like 4 times daily.

I worked for a dentist for 5 years, and he would advise the patient to go home, take some tylenol or advil, and see if the pain goes away. If so, then leave the wisdom teeth alone. However, if/when the pain persists, then have them out. Pain is normal to experience as the teeth move around and start to poke though the gums.
